i have an 07 with 56k. its time to shop around for a timing belt replacement obviously.
i called philadelphia honda and they are having a special on timing belt replacement for $499 for honda and $549 for acura. i called and the service advisor said that the price is correct but this an extra $140 for the oil seals. this is a first time i have heard about oil seals being replaced. is this a necessarry operation especially with only 56k. he also said its an additional 100 for the serpentine belt. i checked and rockauto has the serpentine belt for $24.00.

Technically, it's 105K maintenance, but depending on conditions it might be worth assessing the state of the belt if it's been 7+ years or the car was exposed to extreme temps.

Guess I should have wrote "generally agreed upon". For most people sub-item 4 pops up between 100K and 110K nevertheless. 
That said, I don't think I've heard or read of people snapping timing belts on the TL if they are under 110K and not exposed to extreme conditions.

If I may interject...my dad currently drives a 1995 Accord- is somewhere near 250k miles with the belt never changed- unfortunately, it broke a few days ago (he's not great for maintenance on a car)- anyway, it's a testament to the longevity of the belts in these cars. To the OP, you can do the service early if you want, but 56K miles is a little early. My brother did his on my old 00 TL at 140K miles and he said it looked new when it was removed. I'm not saying to wait excessively to do the work, just that you can save your money for now and wait a bit to do it.
You guys are so lucky when it comes to finding cheap deals with the TB service.

If you're determined on getting the TB done so early, you might as well cough up the extra to do the seals while everything is out. Cheap relatively speaking insurance.
My rear main seal is leaking. When they go in there to fix it, I plan on doing anything I can so I don't have to get raped down the road. My TL is an 05 with 192k miles.

Typically they will inspect the seals when doing the belt. If they are bad/leaking, they will/can replace them for extra $, if they're fine, then there is no need.
It's tough to say before they get into the job. If I had to pick beforehand, I would just say replace to be safe and save $ down the road in case they do begin to leak.

$140 is an interesting upcharge - they are probably adding 1 hour labor, which is a joke since it will take them 15 minutes since everything is already opened up. I think you saw everyone's opinion on your well-maintained car's need for the timing belt service. It could probably wait awhile.
My dealer also quoted me a low price of $499 for TL but it is only for timing belt and tensioner. It does not include water pump, pulleys and drive belt. For everything, they quoted me $1400 (not including seals).
That a rip off quote. my dealer wanted $1330 for tv/wp, three seals, flush the radiator and coolant system along with new thermostats. But yet I provide them with part and paid for labor only, the bill came out as $700.
i was going to tackle the task but don't have the time and i have never replaced a timing belt. i pretty handy with cars but don't feel like messing with the timing of an engines internal control.

Also, when it comes time to sell, a receipt for the 105k service from an Acura/Honda dealership can be a deal maker/breaker. For $450-500 above what you'd pay for the Aisin kit alone, you did just fine. Lots of people pay double what you did for the same work.

by the way, he worked at Honda dealership before so i think he's pretty competent.

Original quote was roughly $1,800 from the dealer.

I'm doing it through my local Acura dealer. The original quote was before any price breaks, specials, or discounts. I've formed a really good relationship with the owners and techs over the years of servicing/purchasing not only my vehicle but my families, friends, ext. that also drive Acuras or Hondas. Also doing some of the labor (or should i say a large chunk) off the books.
Quite frankly, I was astounded at the deal I got.
