I am thinking of getting 2004 TL with 70k miles, 3 total owners 1st owner was lease, 2nd owner private, 3rd owner was friend of 2nd owner. I'm going to check it out tonight.
It is White with Tan leather with basic options(NO NAVI) and carfax is clean. Am i doing the right thing? or should i shop for less miles? Asking price is $14k, trying to talk him down to low $12k. What do you guys think?

 

$11-12K sounds about right for private sale.

 

14k seems a little high. I agree that 10-12k is a good range to work in

 

got mine with 79K miles for 13.5 after talking the dealer down.

 

No navi, go for $10K and work your way up to $11k. Keep in mind the services required at 105K which is just around the corner that cost xtra $$$.

 

12k-13k sounds right. 11k and 12k is too low regardless of it being 70k. The service done at a honest shop would charge about 600$.

 

11k is the most the most! i would pay cause you will be the 4th owner and dont forget its 6 years old and almost due for the 100k maintnenice. I paid 14.5k with 74k miles on it last year off the original owner with navi, a-full a-spec kit, extened warranty, lo-jack etc... Not trying to rub it in your face but dont jump on this TL if the price isnt right there's plenty of them out there. Good Luck

 

just got mine a month ago. 04 with 75k. paid 12.5k, charcoal on black non-navi.

 

checked it out, guy was confident he could high 13 for his car. I mean car was okay, but whoever painted front bumper did poor job where clear coat was sprayed uneven, rough, got it all over the headlight housing, rear doors had uneven gap when closed, both side of rear fender/trunk felt like it was painted.... i guess i am just gonna have to search harder..........

 

Good idea on looking for another one. I wouldn't feel comfortable having a car that three other people have already driven. Along with the issues that you stated.

 

Check to see if there are any detailed service records, I'd like to know if the Transmission fluided was ever serviced with a car with 70K miles. I bet the leather on those seats must look like crap. As a general rule for me, I tend to buy used cars that have the leather in good/great shape, it shows the owner has some appreciation for their car.
