DIY - Key Mod

I've been doing the following key mod for TSXs which uses the 03-05 Accord key which has the fob integrated into the the key. Should also work for the TL if you all are interested. PM me if you would like me to do this mod for you.

im sure most of us would love to have this done to our key. i would try this but im scared to death of messing up and then end up with a key that wont start the motor. but it is a very desirable mod. props to you on that. it looks good.

We had a bit of that with the TSX ppl, but they use the same immobilizer system and I simply use a key that you either have or get made. Dealer is also able to program the chip of the new key if you have one cut at a hardware store, though one guy's dealership refused for no other reason that he didn't want to do it.

Again, if anyone is interested, let me know. I've done atleast 10 keys already and are waiting for a few to arrive.

The way that the computer is setup, it will store up to 3 transmitters. You are give 2 by the dealership (the valet key doesn't have a fob). So yes, you can still have the old fob work. After a 3rd is programmed in, if you were to program a 4th one, then it would bump the 1st one that was programmed (FIFO system; First In, First out) I'll PM you with the costs and such.

The transmitter will store up to 3 transmitters, but the keyfobs only come in 1 and 2, so you will have two keyfobs operating the same memory settings.

So Basically You are stripping all the parts out of the Acura Fob and integrating it into the Accord Fob, when all along, you could just get the Accord Fob Programmed and cut? But That would cost more, but no opening the key that way

Actually, the key in the Accord fob is completely different. It is NOT the same key blank what-so-ever.

Also, I include the instructions to program the buttons with each key I do, but that is easy and we've already posted them; just something nice to have when you get your new key.

It's not the case, Ron. The Accord's remote will lock and unlock the door, but it can't link to the seat memory. That's why I haven't done this mod, because I love the memory linked to my remote.

But moda_way, can you PM me, too with the cost?

PM'd you both...

Are you certain that it isn't a function of the computer inside the car rather than the remote? I'm only asking because I know on the mapping for the TSX, everything (like auto-down windows) works through the receiver and has nothing to do with the remote.

I believe someone on this site did this mod many moons ago and stated that he couldn't link the remote to the seat memory.

If that is true, I'd like to have the memory thing available. Also I don't understand the directions on linking up the key. Are the repetitive directions for the different buttons or keys?

I would think that if you use the orignal key and the original fob to do this mod (lets say driver 1), then the new fob will still bring up driver 1 when you use it. Why wouldn't it? It is all the same, just a different package.

Does anyone have the Helm's manual with the programming instructions? I mean, if someone were to loose their keys and would have to buy a new fob and key (OEM style), then I gotta believe it can be programmed to work. This is the same principle.

If I understand this correctly, he is replacing the key and the chip to start the car. Not the remote that sends the signal. The remote is the Honda remote.

However since the car can hold 3 key signals, then it should work but how do you designate the key to be driver 1 or driver 2.

ok so maybe I don't understand how this works.

Its only soliciting if I'm actually selling something, unless you consider labor a product. Ask anyone, I've not only given you the tools to do it yourself via the DIY, but I have offered to help anyone wanting to do it themself... so unless someone asks me to do it, I'm not selling you or anyone else a thing.

Chill out

that would be me, and a few others that did this months ago (this "mod" was created on the TL board) also the radio stations are linked to your memory seat, so if you use the accord remote your stations need to be reprogrammed until you use the remote with the memory

Hey Madetsobi,

You got it programed and it reads driver 1 recognized when you get into the car?

the trunk and panic button work as well

moda_way = ryan is looking up the fix for me as we speak...

Well, I talked to my Acura Tech guy and he confirmed that there is a physical frequency difference in the fob for the TLs. So, if you were to loose a fob, you would have to know if it was Driver 1 or 2 and they would have to order it that way for replacement. Then they would use the instructions we all know to make the key unlock the doors.

HOWEVER, I believe the 06 US Accord will have the same functionality at the TL, but with an integrated fob, so I am looking into that as a solution.

I just confirmed the Accord will not have memory for the seats, so that rules out that option. I guess if you want the key mod, you have to live with out the key being used to auto-set the seats for you and just push the memory button on the seat.

Are you still making these fobs for '04 TLs?

Get a hold of csmeance, he'll give you info on getting a switchblade key made. There's a DIY as well but it's well worth the money to get it made.
