All you can do is be smart about where you park your car and how you keep it parked (doors locked, etc)

For all of you guys locking keys in your car, have you ever though of getting a wallet key? I've had one since my first car! Go to home depot/lowes and get a normal key cut and leave it in your wallet! That way if you lock you keys inside, unlock it with the metal key! Your alarm will go off, however you can turn it off with the remote once the door is open and you retrieve your keys.

If you are worried about your car getting stolen get a immobilizer kill switch chip or that new alarm that is about $400 and when the car is broken into it fills up the car with a non toxic gas in less than 3 seconds and lasts for 4 minutes out of your air vents. Thieves will not see anything.
lol, in our cars its not easy to get access to these sensors. and they are easy to DIY that way you can be creative where you place the sensors..the fastest way would be breaking in, (you already know alarm went off) then open hood cut the battery cable to shut it off thats if you dont have it going to a separate battery which would be the smart thing to do. (if you live in a bad area). so its not a one man job to do it easy so if thieves go through this they already know you have tons of goodies in your car y? cause you been bragging about it. if you live in a bad area body kits and tv screens are a no no.

not talking to no one directly Im just saying

the point is having a good arlarm raises the chances of your car NOT being a victim. thieves want an easy way to get your car, a car with one is not easy.

Do not get a viper alarm. Had one on my last TL. Huge waste of money. Damn thing was always broken.

I always think about my last line of defense- the 6-speed. I always envisioned a robber breaking into my car to steal it, getting in the drivers seat, and thinking *&% I have no idea how to drive a stick! Haha

so one bad viper alarm you have and you say not to get one?

i have 5901 installed on both of my cars never had a problem

I have installed the same alarm on 4 TLs and 3 on other cars. not once i got a call stating it broke. def a good alarm I dont know what viper you had the but the 5601 and up series are really good alarms with remote start.

im not a salesman btw just really like that product.

So when I first got my TL I used to play around with the alarm a lot to test what sets it off and this is what I came up with.
-If you unlock it from the inside with the switch or the tab the alarm goes off.
-If you start it with the alarm armed the alarm goes off
-If you press the trunk button on the dash while the alarm is armed the alarm will go off

I think the worst car to be locked out of is a BMW. My friend locked her key in the trunk of her 08 5 Series and AAA said they are not allowed to open it, and that she'd have to call BMW. BMW said that they'd send a signal out to her car to unlock the door so she'd have to stand at the trunk and hold the trunk button for 15 secs every how ever many minutes and the doors will unlock. The problem was that the signal was being sent through a cell tower and there is no signal where her house was so the car never unlocked.

They were able to enable my friend's Mercedes from a phone call with the right code. He lost his keys and they remotely unlocked it and the car retained full functions with no key. It seems like if you got a smart thief that could get the codes you could steal a car like that very easily and without breaking anything.

One thing I did not believe was being able to open the TL over the cell phone. I thought the remotes were IR but I guess not. I opened my car from about a mile away with a friend hitting the unlock near his cell with me standing at my car. I can't remember the service but I believe it was Nextel. It makes absolutely no sense to me why this works.

drunk until dark, huh?!?!
that's a good "when technology goes wrong" stories.

I had a random problem with my self locking feature for a while...it would just randomly lock all doors when car was on. One day, I put my dogs in the car with it running, AC on full blast in the rain. Bam, it locks. Tried with a hanger, but broke the weatherstripping and scratched my tint. Finally called AAA...the guy came with this little inflatable pouch...it pried the back of the window back...then he had a what looked like a flexible ruler with a rubber band and string attached to the end to grab the lock pull. Under 30 seconds, easily
