Sun Shade for my '06

Anyone have experience with any nice sun shades? I'm looking for something that fits REALLY nice. I've seen a few on ebay but am wanting to get some feedback from personal experience before I order something I won't be happy with.

The one from my Volvo does not fit the TL's windshield at all, too small.

Thanks in advance.

Look for the custom vehicle specific foil style. I think it's a company called heat shield. they are pretty cheap ($30) and sold at most Acura dealers.

Thanks, I'll check that out!

Does something like that fold up easily for storage in a front seat back compartment?

Mine rolls up and I put it on the floor of the pass side rear seat. It works great ( I have had mine since I bought the car in 06) and is fitted to the tl's windshield, so it let's almost no light in. I also put it up all the time.

Excellent, thanks for the information. I'll go with one of those, sounds like it's a winner!

I'm the same way, I'll put my sun shade up if I park at midnight. On top of filtering the sun's effects I also like how it adds a bit of privacy.

I have an AWESOME sunshade for my TL. I love it so much that I actually just bought one for my dad's G35x. Here's a link...

I'll take some pictures of mine later today and post them here

Excellent, thanks! I ran across that one searching around but am very hesitant to buy a sun shade that isn't pictured being used in my actual car.

The dealer shade fits perfect and works very well. I bought one when the car was new in '06. I had the velcro strap that keeps it rolled up break once but I've only run two of them since December of '05. I think the current one is nearly 5 years old.

I think you are talking about the Heatshield one.

I bought my sun shade at the dealer's accessory store and it is a Heatshield. It fits the window perfectly and you can roll it up and keep it rolled up with a velcro strap. I've had it for 3 years and still works great.

That's the one. If I'm not in a hurry, I'll start the car, get the AC going, put on my seatbelt, adjust the radio and do whatever else I need to do before taking the shade down. The car cools off so much quicker with the shade in place. The strap breaking on my first one was my friend's fault. The second one has been flawless and as you said, it fits nearly perfectly.

FINALLY off of work. Here are the pics of the one I linked you to...

The gap is about an inch on each side. Not perfect but not enough for me to worry about...

From the front...

The inside of the shade is a felt material and the core is a thick hard foam. That keeps the car insulated and the hard foam provides support so it doesn't fall down. The outside is a reflective silver material that blocks the sunlight and also ultraviolet rays. I LOVE it.

My heatshield is a little more flimsy in that it does sag a little, but still covers the windshield almost exactly like the one pictured. About an inch on one side is not covered. I think the issues with dashes cracking was from extreme heat build up not from UV exposure, so the shade not blocking all the windshield doesn't seem like an issue.

i have the heatshield and on the edges it pretty much covers it mostly. more than the covercraft, but the heatshield isnt as clean and straight looking.

here's a comparison of Heatshield and Covercraft from post cl above

i like the fact that the heatshield is less expensive and covers more of the windshield. even the slightest ray of light can heat something up in the car pretty hot so i opted for the one that covers most of the windshield.

plus if i bought the covercraft, i don't think i would be able to cut out a section for my valentine. im not sure what the material for the covercraft is, but i would just feel bad cuttin up a $50 sunshade

sorry, no outside picture. i paid about $35 shipped from amazon. i think i had a $10 amazon gift card at the time and really paid just $25

Thanks for the info guys. This is going to be on my buying list come next spring. I have to leave my car parked outside in the driveway all the time so I guess this will just be extra insurance against the infamous cracked dash

I'll second the Covercraft one. A coworker has one for his Mazda 3 and has no gaps, I though it was just mine that was a tad short.

Again, nothing to worry about and the fit and finish is awesome. I bought the bag too, for $5 I figured it would be nice when not in use. It is nice protects teh shade nicely when it is in my trunk. Otherwise it hangs out behind my seat when the windows are open and I'm cruising.

Hell yes, I use it whenever I can. I crack all of my windows along with my sunroof AND put up my sunshade when the car is parked, and it's much cooler. Plus the car cools off much quicker once it's running with the A/C on.

Thanks for the replies and pictures so far, who knew there'd be so much to talk about in a sun shade thread. lol

They do make a huge difference in heat building inside the car IMO. The best plus is the added privacy. I mean sure, people can still look in the car but at least they have to peer into the windows to do it which most would be paranoid about someone seeing them do it. Just a thought.
