That V1 rear view mirror is awesome.. did you do the work or is that an accessory you can order from them? It's very clean.. I can't believe that estimate but glad you're going to be getting her back, hopefully just like new.

Lets say I wanted to invest in the grandest of all car alarms... Which would it be? The V1 was a custom order / job. I feel like if I knew how to cut glass and put it into mirrors, i'd do it for a living

Sorry to hear that man.... By the way you describe it, that sounds personal. But these days, it's hard to figure out a thief's motives. To do all of that and leave a Wii and accessories?? Doesn't the Wii come in a big white box?? Geez.... To add, it happened in Bethesda! Well, I guess thieves are sniffing out the affluent areas as well. Ticks me off.

alarms are pointless. I have a system which is hooked up to my computer and without the piece in where it needs to go my car will not start or be hot wired. Alarms can be cut within a minute and cost like 400 installed for a pretty sound if you bump the car. Once they cut the wire your screwed, you can get a battery backup but I am sure they will cut that too. Your best bet is a ignition kill switch or something like that. Viper alarms and all suck and do not work, they are color coded and thieves know what wires to hot wire and or cut to disable the system. You can say its great, but they really are a waist. Fact>Opinion

At the end of the day if somebody really wants your car they will take it but properly installed alarms do certainly serve as a deturent. 99.9% of cars can be stolen with a tow truck....game over. But if you have a well designed alarm installed I'm certain it will pay for itself. As you mentioned alarms can be cut but as you also mentioned that's the reason for a backup battery and multiple sirens, especially inside the vehicle, because that's where most thieves will be working more than likely. Also a good option is to have your installer relocate the alarm brain. Yes it costs more money but when thieves don't find the brain under the driver's side dash or front seat they may not want to take the time to keep searching while the alarm is going off. And my personal favorite addition to an alarm system is a nice set of police strobe lights. Now those things ALWAYS attract attention, much more so than the standard DEI 6 tone siren you hear going off everywhere.

My car was 100% put back together last night! Except for the wiring harness for my rear license plate light and rear camera. When the tech pulled the car out of the garage some A$$ plowed his car into my car. First accident for my car and I still haven't seen the damage b/c it is still at the shop it was at to just get the stripped parts put back in. Worst holiday season ever.

perhaps I should reconsider buying a TL-S...seeing as I live in rockville and work near bethesda, and apparently secured parking isn't enough.
OP, do you have a higher level of coverage for the rental? Did they cover the Jeep in full? I was given an elantra..which I guess beats the cobalt i got last time.
