Exclamation Strange A/C (heater) issue

Recently, especially now that its a bit cooler here in the Bay Area (San Francisco Bay Area for those not from the area), I've noticed something that's quite bothersome.

In the morning, I usually turn the temperature up to around 80+ F. After I'm warmed up, I turn it back down to around 68-70 F. However, I noticed that the air coming out of all the vents is still just as hot as when it was 80+ F. In fact, it takes a VERY long time before the air temperature comes down to a level which is considerably cooler than 80+ F.

Has anyone run into this? I've only noticed this over the last week. I'm not even sure how anyone would go about fixing this either (even the Acura service department would have to "think" about what could be causing this...)

I have a 2005 5AT..

Sounds to me, you ac is not working properly. The compressor is usually running when the heat is on, and is used to cool things down. You probably have a leak somewhere in the AC system.

Yes, I cannot believe how freakin' cold it is getting tonight - below freezing in most areas. Unusual for here. Thankfully your problem isn't the opposite...

Well, if this is the case, then the compressor isn't turning off quickly enough... Is that even "possible" or is some other electronic control that's faulty?

You know, I have a similar problem in the summer here. It takes FOREVER to get cold air out the ducts after the car has sat in the sun all day at 110 + temps. I truly believe the ducting gets so hot under the dash it takes a long time to cool it down. The problem isn't near as bad if you park in the shade or a garage. I suspect you may have the same problem. The temp of the ducts is hot from the heater and it takes a bit to cool them down.

Just set the temp to 68-70 F to warm up. The car will still put out full heat until it gets to the temperature you want, 68-70 F. Even on icy mornings I leave the setting at 72 or less and it does a great job warming the car without overheating the interior. Set and forget is how it is supposed to work.

see, mine does the opposite. It can be 45-50 outside, and I have my TL set at 72 and it's blowing cool air, not warming the car up at all. Infact, I have had to turn it up to at least 75 before i feel anything remotely warm come out of the vents.

first of all you have to make sure that your temp mode is in "AUTO" to work the way you want it to.
When using auto, like Burgman said, pick a comfortable temp, like 72-74 and leave it there. The AUTO feature will heat the car the same as a car set at 85+ would, but will maintain the car at your set point 72-74.

i know that in the summer when i run a/c i set it at 75 and the cabin is more like 70-72. maybe your system may need to be re-calibrated or needs a new t-stat.

BTW, make sure you are not in dual zone climate and auto. auto selects your best fan speed to obtain the temp you are looking for, regardless of the air temp of the heater.

I kinda notice some strange things too with the climate control. I set it to 23 celcius and most days its pretty comfortable, on others I feel a draft of cold air coming from somewhere, but have not determined where. I also notice that even when the heat is on it seems the ac is always running unless you manually turn it off, which takes you out of auto.

I want to revisit this... One other thing I noticed is that when the passenger side is set to like 80, and the driver side is set to 68, the driver side sure doesn't feel like 68... Its almost as if it doesn't know to switch the AC on for the driver side..

If you hit auto and then A/C - the A/C will turn off, but the system will be in auto mode. As long as the outside temperature is cool and the humidity is low, I run it like this without the A/C.
