Cool SoCal pricing on 2004 TL?

Newbie and not-yet-TL-owner from LA here to inquire...

How much of a discount were you able to negotiate--if any--here in Southern California? (Please specify color combo, 6MT vs. 5AT, Nav vs. non-Nav, any aftermarket options, where and when purchased, price before TTL.)

Any negotiation ploys that seemed to work well for you? (Examples: blast-fax, email, brokers/buying services, phone calls to internet managers, end-of-month visit to dealership, just wearing them down in the cubicle, etc.)

I'm primarily interested in 5AT Nav, possibly Abyss Blue/Camel or Silver/Ebony, but unwilling to pay a huge premium for Nav.

What's going on out there in the trenches? Thanks in advance.

South Bay Acura

Ask for Brian Alegando (salesman) or Joey (sales mgr.) and tell them Bruce sent you. I can't publish the price on this forum. But they assured me they will take care of my friends. E-mail me direct for specific details if you want.

I can get you 1500-2000 off sticker from the same place. Talk to Joey or Steve, both sales managers from South Bay acura. They'll take care of you.

Now you're talking.

Jimthegreek--

Will South Bay Acura deal on the 5AT Navi or are we talking base model here?

I have a 2-3 month timeline before I need to pull the trigger. Your opinion: better to work a deal and order a car now, or play it by ear in June/July?

there are a lot of so cali TLers here. i didn't get a deal on mine coz i couldn't wait. got mine about 3 weeks ago and it was hard to get. i waited about a month for mine. dunno how the market is in so cali but it may still be hard to get a deal on a navi. if you don't want navi then you may get a good deal.

i got mine from thomas acura, west covina. daniel was the one that helped me - he's a fleet manager there. what i did get though is 4.59% and i'm a first time buyer so dunno if that helps any.

BTW hope to see all of you folks at the meet on april 24.

Hi,

Newbie here in LA area...Saw couple TLs around here..

Jim,you have the same car I am looking for for my wife. Diamond white pearl, quartz,5at and Navi. you mean they are willing to go down to 2000 off msrp for a navi? If it is, I'd like to talk to them.
By th way, W1n78, so you end up get a navi or not? how much you paid for that?

I am thinking to go through Costco as well.

i got the navi and ended up paying 36K for it. i could've gotten it for 1200 less from downey or weir canyon but they couldn't get me the 4.59% (first time buyer) west cov was getting me. there was really no difference if i were to save 1200 off the price and take the higher apr, it ended being the same. got mine 3 weeks ago. dunno how the demand is for navi since i got mine already and i stopped looking. i also waited a month for it. i went through the fleet manager. i believe costco will do the same. daniel lee is the fleet manager that helped me w/ my car at thomas acura, west covina.

i could've saved 2K if i waited a little longer. but i've done the hardest part - deciding on the car and i decided i wanted the TL. then i looked at the time it took for me to wait and save that 2K. told myself i'll see that 2K i paid extra a lot sooner than for me to wait for the price break.

Southern California TL prices.

I was quoted $35,195 at Cerritos Acura for an Anthracite 5 speed with Navigation system.

I am still looking and deciding (looking at the 330i BMW; G35x and <gasp> Lexus E330; too bad the 2005 Volvo S40 has a spartan interior. The new Audi A4 doesn't appear until 2005) upon my next automobile, but for value for my money it seems like the TL will be it (I'll probably wait for the 2005 line-by then I should see the new interiors of the 3 series and G35x).

"Fight on!"

A broker up here in northern Cal told me he gets his TL's from Southern Cal where they are cheaper. He quoted me 32k for a non-nav car. I ended up doing better than that 31.7 with car cover thrown in by going to local dealer armed with internet quotes, and offering a price based on invoice - dealer holdback. The dealer told me though that there were no deals on Nav cars, since Acura way under estimated demand for them. I wasn't interested in a nav car anyway so I saved about 2k on car. I also did not have a trade-in and was pre-qualified for loan, and was ready, willing, & able to buy a car on the spot. They also had two Redondo Red 5AT's on the lot so that helped.

Lips are sealed.....

When I did publish the pricing, the dealer caught it from other dealers. I was asked to remove it from this forum. They took care of me and felt the right thing to do was honor their request. You can e-mail me direct for other details and information.

Have not yet phoned any dealers to verify pricing because I have some time before I need to move on this. But I think it's definitely worthwhile to push for $33,500 or less.

While the conventional wisdom is that there aren't any deals on Nav cars in SoCal, people are getting them in other parts of the country. I think that $1000 over invoice is generous. Remember that the dealer also has a 3% holdback so even at invoice they are making a profit. Plus they rake it in on service.

Let 'em have it... :rocketwho

Would it be harder to haggle on price if they have to order the car? Hardly any of the dealership have what on want on the lot. 04 Auto w/ Navi Anthracite/Quartz

Disappointing phone call

As per earlier posts by jimthegreek and brucedeb1, I phoned South Bay Acura today to speak to the internet manager. They gave me Ali.

Ali said, "All '04 TL Navis are being pre-sold at MSRP. No flexibility at all." I mentioned that folks on this board had alluded to significant discounts but he claimed that was "totally false information."

There's no way I'm paying sticker this close to the end of the model year. Depreciation will be several thousand right off the bat. I am thinking more and more about extending my current lease to wait for 2005 TL, or perhaps even RL.

Any others out there getting reasonable discounts in So Cal?

You didn't do as I had suggested. I never suggested to speak to someone named Ali. Contact me via direct e-mail and I will try to help you. You can find it via my profile. Talk to you soon.

Brucedeb1: You are correct, sir...

...I sent you a PM. Thanks for the assistance.

Pretty much decided to wait for 2005, hoping for fine-tuning of the vehicle and better balance of supply and demand for Navis. This late in the model year, there will be a horrific depreciation hit as I mentioned.

Seriously considering 2005 RL for its awesome satellite-linked Navi system, though the price of admission looks to be steep.

i dont think the 2005 TL's with navigation will fall in prices much either. I think i read somewhere on this forum that the MDX took 2 years for any prices to significantly go down. The demand for this car is far to great rite now and the main reason is the navigation system.

Rethinking this...

Since interest rates look as if they are poised to rise significantly--I'm starting to look more favorably on the 04 TL (even though I'd prefer to have an 05).

1. Anyone have info on current rates from Acura Finance? Are they doing the 2.9% this month in SoCal?

2. What's the best clean deal (no trade) that you've seen recently on a 5AT Navi? Where?

Thanks,

VOdoc

Prices seem to be going down. Metro Acura said they would sell me one at $33.8 if I wanted to order.

Thanks dlai

Hmmm, might be worth the drive inland--LA county dealers don't seem to want to play. Wonder if they're talking to each other to set prices??

Some are quoting full Monroney, some $500 under. Some want to charge extra for the protection package. They are quoting $31,5 to $31,9 on non-Navi--but that makes the price differential $3200 between Navi and non. Steep.

Financing is 3.9% as opposed to last month's brief offer of 2.9%--that's a difference of a grand right there.

None of this is making me want to jump in the car and go sit in a cubicle. Memorial Day weekend may shake something loose.

I got quotes for 5AT/ no Navi from Santa Monica Acura for 31500 with wheel locks and mud guard and from Pasadena Acura for 31400. I wonder also if memorial weekend will bring some good news to the public =)

What concerns me is that I'll go out on memorial weekend looking for a car and won't be able to find the right color combo I want =(

Where are you seeing this 3.9% APR financing at? I dont see any offers on acura or honda financing websites.

Best rate I got is 4.75% from citi.

According to carbuyingtips.com , if you go by their excel calculator sheet (assuming a 2% holdback), the dealers should be able to sell the car at $30,500 (w/ dest.) and still make a 3% profit which is more than fair. Anyone tried to negotiate near that price?

The prices you have quoted above are decent prices for SoCal. Unless the dealer has plenty of inventory, you will have a tough time getting much off of those quotes - especially if you are looking for SSM, NBP or AM, as those are the most popular color shoices. The only way I know of to get prices around $30.5k is going to the east coast - if they are still offering those prices. I got my AM, 5AT, non-Navi from Downey Acura for $31.45k about 2 months ago.

That reminds me, I probably better put my plates on soon... it just looks so nice without any plates... oh well.

Downey has cars coming in but they are set on MSRP; no way I'm paying that. Any other dealerships that I should try? I'v tried South Bay like people suggested but don't seem to be getting anywhere with them. Maybe I should just go in and put a order with Metro.
What you guys think. They claim a 2month wait. Hopefully they will want to play at the end of the month.

Whoo hoo,
Just left my deposit today at Alhambra Acura. Demi was easy to deal with, no games. In and out in 20min. Before that spent the morning at Keyes Acura and took 1hr to talk them down to $34.2k. The highest we were willing to pay was $34.1k, so we walked. Went to Alhambra and offered $34 and they said ok. Now I just have to wait till the end of the month to get the car. Actually this is my mom's car so doesnt really matter to me. I just want to play with that cool Navi system. All the other dealers I spoke to wanted close the MSRP and would not deal on it. Not sure about Metro since I never actually went down in person, but they did ask if for $33.8 i would be wiling to come down and order one. Probably all BS though.

Thumbs down Ho hum

Got a snail-mail promo from a local Acura dealer today who doesn't know I already bought one.

They're offering $1,000 off on any IN STOCK Acura until Memorial Day. Of course the "gotcha" is the $495 dealer fee and then you have to get their $495 Bullshit "protection package" so you're right back up to MSRP. <round file> <toss> <yawn>

$33.8 not out of the question but you did very good for LA-LA Land. What color did your order?

You are definitely gonna have some fun with the Navi and the HFL. If you are into computers, and if you're the kind of son that makes sure all the VCR's in the house are not flashing and sets up all the new electronics... you will spend hours with the Navi and really make it talk (literally). In an earlier post, I told about getting a voice alert radar detector. The first day I had it installed, it started arguing with the Navi. Two female voices saying, "Be careful! Ka Band!" and "Pardon?" "Please repeat". :argue: Then another "Be careful! Ka Band." "Who do you want to call?" "Kay Brandt?"*

I felt so left out of the conversation and I was laughing so hard, I almost left a butt print in my supple Corinthian Camel Leather seat.

Thanks for the pricing update and congrats, dlai.

An L.A.-area dealer emailed me last week to say that their one in-stock 2004 TL 5AT Navi sold for full MSRP. Yikes!

They had been willing to give me a whopping $500 discount since I work nearby and would have had it serviced there. But--they wanted to charge extra for the protection package, which would have put it pretty much right back at MSRP.

BTW, I got quotes as low as $1700 under sticker for non-Navis, which makes that little in-dash doodad--about to become obsolete thanks to the new RL--cost $3200+.

Good to hear that some dealers are starting to deal a little bit. It'll be even better when we can start dealing up from invoice instead of down from MSRP.

Is $31.7k for a base 5AT expecting too much, or is it possible to get better pricing?

Not to be a total ass, but did you bother even reading the thread? You should be able to do a little better than 31.7 if you shop around. I highly recommend using Edmunds.com to get in contact with the internet managers at different dealerships.

Dealers up in No. Cal are still quoting the $35,195.00 for the NAVI. They aren't budging on the popular colors...ANTH, BLK, SLVR...but they're willing to negotiate if you want any other color. I purchased the Black/black with Navi at the end of March and was able to get $500 of the MSRP. I also purchased the extended warranty for $1700 which was discounted from the initial price of $2K. The warranty extends the current coverage from 5yr/50K to 7yr/100K bumper to bumper. The dealership also mentioned that they would refund the $1700 if we don't use the coverage for the final two years/50K miles. They also threw in free wheel-locks (which is essential) and I was able to get the trunk tray for $50, although ebay has these items for cheap as well. I would imagine that prices would start dropping once you hit mid-year and the 2005 TL's start to show up.
