Metro also gave me the lowest quote for a TL w/ Navi but when it came time to make a deal, they were unable to deliver. Sales person said he would look for the car but didnt call me back till 2weeks later and said he would keep looking. Didnt get another call till after I had already bought my car from Alhambra.

Along the same lines:

So I found my dream car Anthrosite/Camel Navi 5AT. It was sitting at the lot at Acura of Pasadena. We made a deal over the phone -450 off MSRP on a lease. When I went down there to do the paperwork, they said that Acura turned me down for credit reasons. That to me made no sense, cause I had already leased with Acura and the car I had was coming off their lease. PLus my credit is not bad. Stuff from college was a long time ago. I had never missed a payment on the lease in 3 years. They said I would get a notice in the mail. Which coincidently I received today. I had a backup plan and went to Keyes Acura, the larges dealer in the west. They had an Anthosite/quartz Navi 5AT. Went to do the paperwork, got approved no problem and picked up my car a week later.

I don't know what it was, perhaps Pasadena entered incorrect information come deal time cause they had a buyer at MSRP or something. Keyes couldn't believe it. Lesson learned, don't ever get too trusty with dealers. Some will do anything.

To recap recent pricing info on 2004 TL:

I paid $31299 plus $290 for protection package (all-weather mats, trunk tray, mudguards, wheel locks) plus TTL on 5/28/04 at Acura of Pasadena for a SSM/ebony 5AT non-navi. That was $1000 over invoice. A couple of people posted even better deals on non-navis.

No one in SoCal seemed to be getting any meaningful discounts on the navis.

What's the latest?

I almost forgot to mention. Pasadena screwed me over too. I worked a deal with a local dealership with Pasadena's offer in hand. When my dealer came in too high. I went back to Pasadena and asked to take them up on their offer. he emails me back saying "oh sorry I didn't know that you wanted the under body spoiler package and rear spoiler. That will be an extra 2K. It was very clearly stated what car I wanted and the options that I choose. I am almost ready to go to the general manager as this might cost me about $1000.00.

TL w/ Navi

The best I've gotten on a navi so far is 34.5k. I hear some people are getting closer to 34k at some of the dealerships in So. Cal.

I've been reading these threads on prices for about three (3) months now. It is clear that the SoCal dealers have agreed to hold the prices high and not to discount the TL especially with Navi.

On the right coast, from Jersey to Florida, you can easily get more than $1,000 off MSRP. If you work at it, you can get $2,000 and more off.

I contend that, after you buy your TL, you can get it serviced anywhere. Why not take a trip to Florida or NYC, buy your car, drive it home, and have your vacation paid for by the money you save?

If you want the name of an honest FL dealer, PM me. They cut the prices close to the bone and are pleasant to deal with. :P

I'm seriously thinking about that. I'm getting really tired of dealing with these cali dealers.

I do believe the emissions are the same. Also, I do believe (not totally sure) if you buy a new car out of state and then go to DMV and register the car, they will hit you with a huge fee. I do some research and let you know.

That's if you don't pay sales tax in the purchasing state. You can get a temp tag to transport your car out of state and be exempt from FL sales tax. But then the state where you register the car will look for "use" tax which is the same as sales tax. But you don't have to pay both.

This is a common occurance for people who live along state borders. For example, if you lived in some small town in California but you were not far from Las Vegas, you would buy the car in Vegas and register it in Cal rather than drive a few hundred miles to find a Cal dealer. All states have a mechanism for this but they're not all the same.

I bought a Honda motorcycle once in Spokane, WA, got a temp tag, drove it to Oregon where I registered it using a motel address. Oregon has no sales tax. I then came home to Florida and drove on the OR tag until it was ready to expire. Then registered in FL as a used car bought elsewhere. FL charged me extra $100 for a new tag. So I saved 6% minus the $100.

Oh, also... the TL is a ULEV (Ultra Low Emmissions Vehicle) and I think may be Cal ready out of the box.

Correct, all TLs have the same emissions rating. There is no Cali-specific version.

CA DMV makes sure you pay the full sales tax based on your county of residence anytime you register a newly purchased car--new or used. In L.A. County it's 8.25%. Ouch!!

I highly recommend you socalers to go to Santa Monica Acura. Although a small dealership with limited inventory, they treat you very well ( specially Jerry who is the fleet managers). I am not basing my opinion on 1 dealership only, I have gone to keyes twice and to Pasadena once and had to haggle over when the car is coming in, put a deposit, all that crap you dont wanna go through as a customer.

When i walked in to santa monica acura, they just asked what car I wanted and he said the car is coming in a few weeks. He put my name down on the shipment list, told me how much its gonna cost and marked it as sold. Didn't take any deposit, nothing. Just a copy of my drivers license.
Car came in a few weeks later as promissed, picked it up the same day, worked out the financing (2.9% with AHFC during memorial weekend), the whole thing didn't take more than 2 hours if i remember correctly. I had to wait at least 45 min total bc that was such a hectic weekend but well worth it.

I got a non-navi AM 5AT for $31,035 and thats including destination AND protection package. They add protection package on all their cars and price it with the car when you ask for a quote.
OTD was around $33,900 including taxes and license @ 2.9% financing over 60mo.

If i got a nice deal on a non-navi I am sure he can work it out for a navi as well. I would stay away from Keyes and Pasadena specially.

Yes, got mine for $34k flat from Alhambra back in mid May. Anthracite/Ebony w/Navi. The wait was about 12days. Not sure why you guys are still having so much trouble with the price. Price I got from Keyes was $34.2k with a 1week wait. Good luck.

My experience with Santa Monica Acura was really bad. The management was horrible and the sales people just seemed very sketchy. They tried to work out a lease for $525 per month with 2k out of pocket. They would not budge at all. But that was a few months ago.

Do you mean $35.5 BEFORE Tax+Title+License? If it's $35.5 out the door for a NAVI, that's an awesome deal ! I haven't heard of that kind of deal for a NAVI in Southern Cal. I got mine for $34.2 before TTL from Covina...

Love your example, XP It's usually the other way around!! We've bought out of state a couple of times (for better price or better service), and found a couple of useful tips...

Dealers in Cali usually have to charge the purchaser for 1 year of CA registration at time of purchase - not much use for us!! We had to negotiate an exemption - got a special "Get out of Cali free - drive straight to the state line; do not stop at Disneyland" pass.

If you paid less sales tax in the state you purchased the vehicle than is charged in Nevada, you have to pay Nevada the difference. If you paid more, you don't get a refund.

Each state has different rules. Certainly gets confusing!

Keyes will do $34.2k with destination. I was there in May and they offered me $34.2k with destination, still thought they could do better so I walked. BTW, the manager there is a big prick and said people on the forums were posting fake prices when I told him TLs can be bought for $34 why should I be the sucker and pay more. Bottom line, don't pay more than $34 flat for your TL.

How much is licens and title for So. Cal purchase

This has been a great forum for a perspective TL buyer like me. Thank you everyone.

I do have a question about the additional fees the dealer tack on. Can someone give me a breakdown of those fees? For example, I know that LA co. sales tax is 8.25%. What about the DMV fees (license and title)? Are they based on a percentage of the price, or are the fixed? Finally, a friend of mine mentioned a "luxury tax". Did anyone pay this tax?

Thanks in advance.

California DMV fees are based on 0.67% of the selling price plus a small fixed component (around $30 if memory serves). Dealers add on a $45 "doc fee" that covers their cost for submitting your DMV application and a $5 state tire disposal fee.

The sales tax is the killer; it's based on where you live, not where you buy. Unlike other states, CA does not give any allowance for the trade-in to reduce sales tax on the purchase. That's one argument for leasing, since you only pay tax on the portion of the leased vehicle's value that you "use."

This still works.
I was told MSRP for a Navi 6Mt
I told them I was thinking of bailing on my Deposit to go somewhere else, but I wanted to give them a second chance because "Bruce" reccomended them.
"Oh, you know Bruce?"
10 seconds later I wasnt paying MSRP anymore.

Any idea who has the lowest Tax rate as far as Cities/counties go?

I know I'm in Simi, Ventura County, and tax here is only 7.75 is memory serves right. But just over the Hill in LA County (The San Fernando Valley) its like 8.25% or something.

I'm very surprised that TL's still command MSRP!!! It the end of the year! The 2005's should be out in about 8-12 weeks! The funny thing is that whilst the new TL's are selling at/near MSRP most of the automobile-boards state that TL's resell value is a about average(!?).

mudguards costs $65 and wheel locks cost $30, TL without Nav costs $30,500. If you buy it at the end of the month, you may be able to get it for $30,000. (Boston, MA). TL with Nav is another story. Standard price of Nav is $2000 more. But most of the car dealer will not sell it for $32500.
