So much for exclusivity!

So I'm at my Acura dealer this morning to get the oil changed in my RL, and I start noticing how many TL-S's there are out front. I went out and counted 18 of them without even trying (and this isn't even a huge dealership).

In fact, it looks like he has more Type-S's than "standard" TL's! I guess it's not exactly a limited edition thing, huh.

Nope...its mass produced just like the TL and RL are....

Anyone buying an Acura for exclusivity is a bit on the clueless bandwagon anyway. You want exclusivity...you get lambo or Bentley or something like that. Exclusivity does not come with in the Acura price point. Getting close with the NSX....but not really quite hangin with the big boyz yet!

Don't see that many what? NSX's? Yeah, I agree. The guy in the house next to me has one though (and NBP!!! ) But for the make itself? You can't be serious csmeance! I see Acuras (especially TLs) everywhere in the DC/MD/VA area! As well as the rest of models. I don't see a lot of modded TLs (so I feel exclusive in that regard - i.e., my grille, etc), but the car make itself is flowing from a "horn a'plenty"!

Depends on where you live. I have three other people in my office that drive TL's, and one other person in my small subdivision an aspec at that. I pass at least three a day on the highway to work. It is a very popular choice in my area. That is why I need to do more to it, to make it stand out more.

i have seen plenty of TLs... Acuras too... heck I have a 2G TL and my own 3G TL and a 02 MDX and a 91 Integra *bros first car* - all NBP

But Dark is right... I see TLs all over the place, and I have only seen one modded TL - Johnny 2--k

I think it is a quirk of human nature that we don't notice how many of a certain type of car is around until we get one.

It seems like as soon as I got my TL, they were everywhere. I know they weren't all just bought.... So it must be me.

At least I haven't seen a TL-S on my block yet.

For 07's, I've seen more Type-S' on the road than base models. TLs, in general, are plentiful here, but nothing like Accords or Camrys...modded TLs are non-existant (ok, I've seen one other than mine). If you want exclusive, get a Mercedes Black Edition.

Off T:
Since this thread has your eye Mike, what about the CF engine cover?

On T:
The drawback to me about having a popular car, is when you go back to buy another one! They are reluctant to lower the price since it is such a good seller! When the 07 TL-S hit, because of the rave of the TL, they wouldn't budge on the price at first. So being exclusive has it's strong points, but it isn't the case with Acuras!

i have not seen many TL's in daytona beach, maybe 2 or 3 in the past few months besides my TL. I really do not travel out of Daytona that much so i mush retract my previous statement. Juding by other posts, there reaqlly must be alot of other TL's on the road. As far as NSX's go, I have only seen 1 in person and that was at an acura mega meet in November

Maybe it's a terminology thing, but I never meant to suggest Acuras are rare or exclusive in the sense of exotic cars.

I guess I DID, though, think the Type-S version was going to be produced in somewhat smaller numbers than the standard TL, making it "exclusive" in the same way hemi Chargers or Mustang SVT's are. In other words, not one in every driveway.

But when my dealer has 11 standard TL's and 18 Type-S's right out on the front lot, it looks like the Type-S is now the "standard" TL.

But I have to admit I haven't been following the Type-S very closely, due to lack of interest.

I have seen a total of probably 4 Type S (not including my own) here in the SF Bay Area. I think I have seen about 3 07 TL-P on the road as well. But there are tons of 06 and older TL's on the road. Still not as many as Civics and Accords though. I just saw a nice red Types S on the highway this past weekend. I drove past it to check out who was driving that whip. Guess what? An older age lady. Blah. Hehe.

lol, I know its no sports car but dang. Im paying for it tho so im going to call it a sports car!

Well on a side not this is the most sporty-ist car ive owned. (compared to my 94 Accord and 96 Prelude)

So until the day my insurance takes off the "sport sadan" title im calling it a sport sadan!

Sure...but you could do the same thing in a Rabbit man.....speeding tickets dont equal a sports car! Performance and ability do....and this car is somewhat lacking in both honestly. JMO though.

To make your car exclusive or unique is by adding a supercharger or modify your car so it looks one of the kind.

The TLs are more "exclusive" than the BMW 3-series in sales numbers- only @80,000 per year v. @120K per year... I would expect the TL-S to be no more than a fourth of TL sales, if that, due to the higher pricing and minimal cosmetic differences.
I have only seen one or two S-types here in the metro Los Angeles area so far, and only a few '07s. This place has a lot of '04-06' 3Gs, but they are still not as ubiquitous as the 3-series, 5-series, C-class or E-class.
Besides, you saw the TL-S in the dealership- it probably sold a bunch of the regular TLs and was waiting for another shipment.

back on topic...the TL isn't exclusive...it's just not as common as a camry or accord and that's expected

You know, when I think about it, I see more 2G TL-S' than TL-Ps (and the difference between the two was just as minimal for the 2G as it is for the 3G).

I love my car, but I do realize its a supped up Accord. And in SoCal I see 30 a day atleast, they are just common vehicles.

Now that you can get an 04' for 23k or less you'll see alot more out on the road.

Nothing under 70k is exclusive in my opinion. So that means an NSX is no where close considering its a starter supercar.......pick one up for less than a new TL-s

And darksom1 it wasn't NBP back then it was Granada Black Pearl.

in that sense, saab 93 and jaguar xtype are also "exclusive" given their extremely low sales volume within their segment

props to all saab and jaguar drivers!

MichealBenz, that's not fair. I already laughed at that picture once today!

Hey, on second thought, maybe I could trade him my NBP '07 TL-S for his car. Then I'll have an exclusive vehicle. I sure don't now. I've got about 7 TLs (2G and 3G) right in the parking lot at work. I hardly think it's exclusive, but DAMN do I like it! <--- That's what's important (at least to me).

I saw a PT Cruiser with a wing like that the other day!!!

BTW, exlusive would be something like a Maybach, Enzo or Bugatti. Most assembly line cars are not going to be exclusive. A hand built car is exclusive.

And for the guy that said a NSX can be bought for the cost of a Type-S. Are you on crack. You would need to buy a 10 year old NSX for that price. Compare a new NSX with a type-S. Depending on where you are you may be able to find a 91 for 25k. Talk about holding the resale value!! The NSX is a great car in all aspects, and still has limited production. They are not a dime a dozen car, and are fairly rare in most areas in the US. I would take a NSX anyday. Reliability with performance that can not be beat by any other manufacture.

Up here in the thumb of Michigan, 3rd generation TL's are a somewhat rare car to see. I see maybe three or four 3G TL's other than mine a month. I see second generation TLs a little bit more, and Integra's from time to time.. but the 3G TL is rare in my area (Port Huron, borders Sarnia/Ontario). It might help that the closest Acura dealer is 50-60 miles away.

Most people up here haven't even seen TL's. I'm loving it. It gets more attention that way. Accord's & Civic's are seen everywhere though, (including the ones in my garage). I know Toyota is up there with GM on sales, but I don't see all that many Toyota's here. At my office, only one person drives a Toyota, and I rarely see Camry's driving around.

As for being exclusive, you're right... but for a short time we had the privilege to live in that limelight. Got one of the first G3 TLs in the bay area back in 11/03 and later was one of the first A-Spec TL after the kit was released. (was not out until late February/March of 04). So you can imagine the looks of curiosity and awe. It was great! Sort of like when we take out my old baby - little ol' Italian Ford. What I love about modding is , we all start out with the basic same thing and many of the mods are the same, tint, shaved door lock, etc.. but a lot of you find that thing that just sets yours apart from the rest and then many follw suit. that's what it's all about, we learn from each other IMHO.

Jeez, I guess I got turned around somewhere, Yea, I like to be different/unique but with this car we kinda went stealthy on the outside. Subtle little changes here and there on the outside enough to be different in the old neighborhood but still keeping them guessing what’s changed.

Now it's what’s under the sheet metal that they have to worry about... It's when we get on the gas that everyone around says WTF??? As our tail lights fade off around the next turn! Yes, S/Cs are nice........ and tires and springs and shocks and .................

Well Bob289, that's because you’re in between... Come out to SF or down to LA, different story!! Unless you see me, I’m one of those "old people" Must be all that Geritol... or maybe it's because everyone else is young compared to me. Ouch!

I agree the TL isn't a hardcore "race" car, and I don't dispute your racing experiance but there no disputing these facts that the TL can't hold it's own on a full race track. Here are some of those facts in print...

That was L-E-M-B-O-W-S-K-I that said that! Get his ass! He been snortin' Zaino huh man?

BTW..."MY" NBP is unique, exclusive, one-of-a-damn-kind, and the genuine damn article guys! If it is parked at America Mall, a rock concert, swap meet, female pudding wrestling contest or the Acurazine meet...you will ride around that whole mofo and not see another one like it! But yeah, seriously, in general, we all just have a nice, cool car...that's all...but not exclusive!

Oh yeah...Thanks for the GBP tip Lembowski! I am sure, however, that in some foreign land "Granada" means Nighthawk...so dammit, Imma call it NBP!
