Snowboard Racks for 3G?!?!?!
Snowboard Racks for 3G?!?!?!
I have been told that nobody makes a set of racks for the tl that don't have to be drilled in. I am hoping that this is not true. Does anyone know anything about this?
i got an estimate on a rack system for my TL...$600 for a rack and then i was going to use a Thule container so my board isn't exposed to the elements. mainly the road salt.

I've had racks on my previous cars but not on the TL yet. When I do, I'll most likely be using Yakima racks.
According to the website here are the parts you'll need to make it fit the 3G TL.
(4) Q Towers (part # 8000124) $150/ea.
(2) CrossBars (part# 8000408) $65/ea.
(2) Q116 Clips, Front (part# 8000716) $35/ea.
(2) Q112 Clips, Rear (part#8000712) $35/ea.
44" Fairing (part# 8007048) $65/ea.
Hope this helps. Check out Yakima's site for more info.

i know they make them for the 3rd gen because i just met a guy with them during the arizona car meet just this past sunday. no holes, just latched on. ummm, dont know if he's on here because he showed up with another member. go to https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=397240&page=3 and see if anyone can get the info for you. there's a pic of his car as well.
I have Yakima racks for my snowboard/surfboards. I went with Yakima because the cross bars are further apart than Thule. Thule has a kit to make the members further apart, but it looks like shit and its expensive. The rack and all mounting hardware cost about 300 bucks.
There is no drilling. It mounts right on and its solid. I'll be driving to Canada this January with 4 boards on top of my car....no problem.
yakima's website is pretty useful, check it out.

If you are concerned about where to put snowboards. Hidden Hitch has a hitch system that will fit the TL. Then you buy a bike/ski/snowboard rack system from Thule or Yakima.
This route I plan to take with mine so I don't have to worry about the ugly roof rack on the car. Yes I will be taking a risk of the board getting stolen by having it outside the car, but the only time it will on by the rack is when the car is in motion. If your interested the models for each piece are as follows. Hidden Hitch: Model #60814, Thule: Roadway bike rack, Thule: 987xt - Hitch Ski Carrier.

Seems like that sport rack is only good for snowboards/ski's. Which is cool if thats the only thing one does. I went with the yakima because I can strap surfboards down to just the cross members, snowboards and bikes with the appropriate carrier. I'm going up to windham tomorrow, racks are already on the car. I love them.
yakima fatcat6
just wanted to post b/c i know people were looking... here's my yakima fatcat6... installed it last week and it worked great on the first trip to the slopes... i'm not too worried about it scrathing the paint or anything b/c of the way it's installed... i mean maybe over time there would be sunspots where it touches the car, but i only plan to have it on my car thru mid-march... although, i may buy a bike attachment for it, but i not as avid of a bike rider as i am a snowboarder...
with the fairing installed there is almost no road noise... it's barely noticeable... low volume music drowns it right out.
now that it's assembled it can be taken on and off in matter of minutes... and for anyone with a carbon bronze pearl TL, this rack matches the color almost exactly which is a nice touch.
i paid just over $500 with shipping, but i did buy the fatcat6, which is their most expensive rack... but i liked how it was more slim and aerodynamic... and again, the color matches. i think a barebones rack with no locks or fairing would be around $350-400.
i bought mine off rackattack.com, which gave me a nice discount. it would been closer to $600.
hope this helps all my fellow snowboarders (and not those two planker wankers they call skiers. jk)

Hey wuts up guys. I work at a snowboarding store and unfortunately its very very expensive to get racks on our cars. So considering my mountain by my school is only 8 miles away I put a surfboard rack on my car.. The foam ones that you rest the board on top of and the traps go inside your car where you tighten it. Ill take some pics when I can but I go to school upstate and its pretty crappy out right now. Yea so the price was very fair. I believe like 50 bucks. Again not the best for really long distance and high speed travel and especially since we got nice cars you would only want to use 1 board per rack. To use 2 you would have to flip one board over but then the bindings would be eating at your roof. So find a store that sells the double one or just get 2 of them. Works very well easy to install and take off.
