If the chip is really small and there are no lines extending from it, and it is not in a place that bothers you, you could leave it alone. If you do want to get it fixed, if you don't have an authorization from your insurance company you will have to pay for it yourself. Insurance companies don't penalize you for this kind of repair, since it is much cheaper for them to pay a little bit now than to have to replace the windshield later when the crack gets bigger.

I have a single very small chip as well... I've "heard" some people complain the TL windshield is not as "strong" as other windshields they have had in other cars, but I don't know how true that is.
FWIW, 3 Accords NO CHIPS, 1 TL 1 chip in month #2... Hopefully its just bad luck.

Unfortunately, I'm a bit of an expert on TL windshield chips as of late. In early December I was smacked by a rock in my lower right corner. I was pissed but it wasn't that bad, just a little starburst the size of a nickel. It was too close to the edge so they couldn't fill it but they said it wasn't bad, don't worry about it. It didn't bother me much down there so I thought I'd just wait a year or so to pull it since I'd probably get hit again anyway. So then I parked the car for the winter and a week ago I went out and noticed a huge crack sprouting out to the center of the driver's view! PhaWK!!!! There was no chioce from there. I had genuine oem glass installed to replace the broken one. Yes, I do think that TL windshields are fragile. More fragile than my other cars by far.

Anything special about those guys replacing the windshield in the TL??? No problems I assume? I'm sure you can't even tell it's a new one... If and when I replace the windshield, I too will want the Acura one, but do you think a non-OEM one might be better actually chip wise???

I just had a repair done by http://www.safelite.com/
GEICO arranged the repair at no cost. You don't even have to be there when they fix the chip. They came to my garage while I was at work.

Most of the time you can get the chips repaired depending on where it is on the windshield. One of my ex gf's father owned a auto body shop. I had a few chips in my Integra windshield. He said to put clear nailpolish on the chips as a temporary fix to prevent spider webbing until you can get it repaired or replaced.

Aren't the original 3rd Gen TL windshields softer glass and acoustically tuned to help cancel out wind/road noise. Do they put this same type of windshield in when it needs to be replaced?
That would suck if the answer is no!
Anyone that has had a windshield replaced, notice any increased noise?

not wanting to rain on your parade, narnia, but safelite uses REAL cheap glass. one of my bestfriends is a windshield tech and he says safelite has some of the cheapest windshields on the market. that is why alot of insurance companies use them because they can undercut almost any other company by using cheaper materials........
To quickly answer everyone, yes, there are new special plastic clips in the 3G TL that must be delicately snapped before they are pried on to pop the glass out. Other than that, it's a standard install with black liquid sealer. I waited a day before driving mine, but you can go in 3 hours or so.
Safelite is generally known as the worst in the industry. They often don't even use primer (prevents rust after the metal casing is scored.) Yes, I have the acoustic glass. Acura buys glass from two plants in the US. By looking at the markings on mine we determined that my replacement actually came from the same factory as my original. It's perfect now.
