Went to Comptech's facilities today
I made the rather short drive to the Comptech facilities in El Dorado Hills today. The staff was really nice, gave me a tour of their R&D departments as well as of their machine shop and garage. They then showed me their TL with the supercharger installed on it. They havent quite got everything right, but expect the problems to be solved fairly soon. While I was there I picked up a rear sway bar.
I asked one of the employees why the comptech supercharger was taking so long, and he said it had something to do with the newest obd2 software and the ulev emissions rating. instead of having the early obd2 versions inspect several parts of the engine control system, the new obd2 software is constantly getting updates, every few miliseconds, and fine tunes the engine based on the input. The only thing comptech has not worked out is either a way to reflash the ecu or to bypass the system and make the car think the extra power is normal. He told me on the dyno the ecu compensated for the extra air induction and the supercharger added almost nothing.
He told me install time was about 5 or 6 hours to those who are familiar with engines and their mechanics. I picked up their newest catalogue (first one to get it, they were unloadingit off the delivery truck as i arrived) and were still printing out the price sheet to include so I wasnt able to see any prices for their new products for the TL. They expect the catalogue to be released in a few weeks.
They tried to talk me into getting their exhaust although did seem to approve of the tone my magnaflow setup gave the TL. I had a chance to hear the comptech on a customers car and compare it to mine...have to admit that comptech did a pretty good job at keeping the tone low and deep. Anyway, their facility is pretty cool and if anyone is in the sacramento area i rec. going there to check them out.
