Should I be mad at the dealer or glad?

So I paid $20 to have the dealer change my oil if I provided the oil myself (amsoil synth) which I told them was in my trunk. Well, I get the car back and open the trunk and voila, my oil is still there.

Should I be happy that they gave me a $20 oil change (putting in either reg oil or synth) or upset that they didnt use the oil I provided?

What should I do? Go in now and demand they put my amsoil in or after another 3k miles just stick mine in?

Go back and ask for the SERVICE MANAGER

Nicely and calmly- you dont have to demand, its not a big deal- explain the "special request oil" is still in the trunk and because its very expensive Amsoil- thats what you would like installed as you had requested, with a new filter of course- at no charge- while you wait - if they dont mind.
You bought that brand to use now- not wait another 3k!!

Often the oil change tech is a junior guy in training and doesnt read the invoice carefully to see- use customers oil in trunk.
When you are just cranking out oil changes your mind gets focused on- this is where the oil comes from, this is where the oil goes into, not, special request.

They will take care of it no problem- its pretty bad publicity for them when they cant follow simple instructions like that.

When my beloved TL got its replacement trans recently, I was partway through a deep cleaning and hand rubbed Carnuba wax job on it when trans went out.
Had it put on the work order- NO WASH -Vac ONLY
So I pick up my car and there it is in all its dripping glory
I mentioned it to Acura Care when I got a phone survey, then the Service Manager called and said bring in and I will give you a full detail- sorry for not paying atention

Easy fix and the Manager NEEDS to know when the techs are not doing as instructed, big legal issues at stake

very possible, how do you even know they changed the filter? Its better to do it yourself to ensure that its a right and quality job.

Ah...just take it and run. Not worth the hub-bub over that small issue. Its not like they used cheap doo doo oil.....it was more than likely mobil one. OR.....if you are anal about it...take it back NEXT WEEK>tell em you found it in the trunk over the weekend and have it swapped out with a new filter too. Hey...free flush!! Woohoo! The extra time in your engine over the weekend will give the detergents plenty of time to clean up nicely!! Tell em you found the oil when you were shopping over the weekend and didnt look before then.

Don't get mad get GLAD!

Don't stress over it, I'd just drive with the "free" oil they gave you and make sure they put in the good stuff next time. I understand where the frustration is coming from though as I am very picky when it comes to my car.

I hope you turned down the detail ... usually they mess the car up worse than it was.

Shit like this happens. If you aren't dying to have your oil in there right now then just wait till the next go around. Benefit of the doubt, an innocent mistake with no consequences.

As someone who was in the industry

Please go see the Service Manager and talk with them
This is a issue because written orders were not followed and the Manager really needs to know about it.

You can make a deal for free labor next time or put in the oil you want now

And no, I have not let them touch my paint- still doing the bit at a time clean and carnuba-gets me out of the house and keeps me off the streets where I would just be testing the Hawk brake pads

Don't have them detail it... Samething happened to me... If you have them take care of it, you'll get your car back with swirl marks and scratches on every g'dam panel on your car. I was sooooooooooooo ticked when that happened.... They thought they were doing me a favor by "hand-washing" my car... But if you looked at the panels, it looked like whoever washed my car, was wearing a big bracelet, because there were long/deep scratches on the side panels, that looked to follow the motions of someone washing it.

So that's why if you see me taking my car to get serviced at the dealer, I tape a huge sign on the steering wheel that says, "DO NOT WASH!".

Similarly, I'm the guy that when I get new tires, I don't drive the car into the bay, but instead, I hand-wheel the wheels in, have em' put new tires on em', then I wheel em' back out....
