Shift Knob Change: Automatic Transmission

Hello,

Thinking of swapping out the stock shift knob on my 2004 auto TL.

Wondering quickly if there are any restrictions i'd face with "universal" shift knobs out there

The problem seems to be mainly with knobs that have the button mechanism to shift. Our TL's don't have that...with that said, what do you guys think of this?

But it looks cool.

And, not like you will be touching it much unless you sport shift so it being burning or freezing shouldn't be that big of a deal. IMO marks n scuffs on it would be the first thing I'd think about.

Affirmative on the burning and freezing, but it does look cool Have had it about a year or more and no marks yet. There isnt much that makes contact with it and I dont wear rings on my right hand, so there really isnt much of an opportunity for it to get marked up. I like the way its looks, but I love how heavy it is and how the added weight feels while shifting.

What knob is that?? Did it require any modifications? I'm looking to get something like this or the machined R8 style one...

But I guess since it is an automatic you won't really need to leave your hands on it.

And definitely don't try to lick it in the winter.

No mods, just screw off the old and screw on the new. I love it. Would buy again for sure. I got it from Heeltoe

Got that Maven shift knob for a 6mt. it isn't bad really the summer time is when I think it will suck more. For winter by the time I start to move my car its warm anyway. Also during the winter its soo cold anyway you dont even feel it haha. but its a beauty simple but beautiful at the same time. also feels way nicer when shifting than the stock one.

for other guys here who are reading this and plan on getting it. Make sure you get the countersunk one. there is no real way to attach the shift bag, with the countersunk one its lower soo the shift bag sticks closer to the knob.

Had a Hurst T-handle on my Maxima's 6 speed shifter (not pretty but lowered the shifter height by 1.5" and fit my hand perfectly) and it got really hot whenever I was parked in the sun. At least with an automatic, once you put it in drive you don't have to move it again for a while.

i don't see what the big deal is about replacing the shift knobs.

6MT...sure, i get it. countless reasons.

AT...idk, doesn't really make sense to me.
