??'s on window tint job
Im about to get my windows tinted from a local shop and wanted to know if there was any special way to tint the small back window panels. The guy im getting my tints done from doesnt seem like he's done any high end vehicles or TL's for that matter so i'd like to give him as much info myself as I can.

If he cant figure out what to do- and has no TL experience- you need to look for another shop-
One that knows what they are doing will say- we use this method and we have patterns for all the windows on your car- in this state you can have......

Im sure not every tint professional at every tint shop has tinted a TL. I just wanted to know if there was some "trick of the trade" to tinting a TL that some of us here on the boards might be aware of that some tint professionals arent aware of.

Hey there,
There's no trick - your tinter just needs to use a common tool, which I'm sure he already has, (looks like a small curved spatula) to move the film under the rubber liner. Any tinter will be able to do this, but most don't since it takes a little more time.
TLs are pretty straight forward to tint, nothing too complicated for most tinters. Let us know how it turns out.
Oh, make sure the film is computer cut!

If he can't get the whole rear quarter window, IMO, it won't look good. Like the man said, it can be done and should be easy for an experienced tinter.
Also, if you haven't read it already: GET MOLESKIN on all 4 windows. You don't and I'll bet it scratches with 2 weeks.
I had to get mine redone and pay 2x to learn that lesson. And that was *after* I read about Moleskin here.

Computer cut doesn't mean quality.... just means that the tint guy is lazy... and is lossing touch with the ART of tinting...
What happens when the actual Glass/window isn't exactly to spec???? you'll have a gap b/w the edge of the window and the tint film... right???
Well, my tint guy totally removed the little glass... and tinted it on his table...
Yo... RBP_04TL... your tints look like sh!t....

I half agree; yes computer cut doesn't mean quality - BUT it does mean less room for error and a more precise even fit. It has absolutely nothing to do with "laziness." If the glass isn't to spec then thats a problem with the template (which you can readjust on the plotter via its vector editing software.) But we've never had to do this.
Our head tinter has been tinting for over 7 years and will hand cut older cars and exotics that do not have an available computer cut template. I'm hyper critical of his work and I will tell you he's one of the best at freehanding around.
Tint shops that can afford a plotter system (runs around 7k-10k) gladly make the purchase because it ensures less warranty work and increased volume (hand cutting takes considerably longer.)
Please, please do not mix-in your opinions when talking about topics you don't fully understand. It does a great disservice to the board members and only furthers wrong info.

I wasn't trying to give anyone any wrong info... and I don't feel I did... I think I actually helped in this discussion... Thank you for your response. I bet that board members fully understand the concept better, since, you've cleared up the process you take (and other tinters using the technology) to ensure proper sizing is achieved...
Maybe I was being the pessimist in stating the obvious pit-falls to using comp. pre cut tint films... Nonetheless. Thank you for your clarification...

Spend the $ to go somewhere experienced. Should run $250 for the absolute best most perfect tint job possible. Look for reviews from other people here. Make sure they tint over the 3rd brake light. Make sure they tint over the dot matrix on the rear window. Make sure the rear window is all one piece. Make sure they tint behind the rubber on the little rear windows. Mention "moleskin". If they have no idea, don't go there. If you want to go for a nice drive through the foliage, make the drive to Tint King in Billerica, MA. Absolutely guaranteed perfection. Tint is one thing you don't want to skimp on. One little flaw and you can't stop noticing it and it will drive you nuts.
