Angry rock hits the windsheild

Man i'm pissed. Driving on the 405 and a rock flies up and nails my windsheild right on the drivers side, dead center. It didn't go all the way through (looks pretty shallow, actually). Service for acura is closed today, anyone have an idea if its an easy fix? It's about a half inch wide.

I'm so pissed

Tough to tell without looking at it. However, glass companies can repair windshield chips/cracks of a certain size and type and if done correctly, you can hardly tell. Depending on your policy deductible, you can turn this into your insurance company as a comprehensive claim.

Happened to me also.......haven't fixed it yet. Probably because it is on the passenger side and the rearview mirror blocks it.

There is a company in the LA area that will come out and fix windshiled cracks and chips at your home or office for a good price. Looks great when they are done, had another vehicle i own worked on. Reliable and good quality work. Hope this helps

I can feel the pain. Samething happened to me. Rock took away a piece of my heart. The crack have grown to a 20-23 inches now. Will have to look in for all the options available. My deductibles are $250 will have to see if can be fixed or replaced.

I went through the same situation. A crack/chip no bigger than a dollar bill can be repaired by any glass shop for free when you use your insurance carrier. There is no worry about raising your insurance premium.

Unfortunately, the crack on my windshield spread 10" overnight due to cabin pressure. I had to use my $250 deductible & choose my choice of glass repair shop. I called Acura of Concord to make a service appointment & was told they do not do that type of service, but only warranty work. So the advisor referred me to the glass repair shop they use. I gave the shop a call & they told me to make sure I let my insurance carrier know that I want to use an OE windsheild, otherwise they will use aftermarket. The glass shop purchased the windshield & upper rubber trim from Acura & installed it w/in an hour.

After paying $250 for my deductible, I looked over the bill & saw that they charged my insurance carrier over $300 for the windshield that the dealer sells for around $400.

Presently, there is a really small rock chip on my windsheild that just pisses me off when I look at it. I'll be getting it fixed for free through my insurance carrier. It's like the windshield is a freaking rock magnet. I do 90% of my driving at night & avoid driving behind/around trucks.

Thanks spryster! I called them and they are coming tomorrow, quoted me at 50 bucks. Is that a good price? It's only the size of a dime.

I just posted yesterday that the same thing happened to me. GEICO is sending Safelite to my garage tomorrow morning, and I don't even have to be there to wait for them. My chip looks like someone shot the window with a BB gun, and they seem to think it can be repaired. GEICO does this free of charge.

Nascar uses tear off or something like that, but it is not street legal. I put a piece of my 3M bra (I am a bra installer) on my 05TL windshield and waiting how it will hold up.

I remember someone telling me once how they had a job drilling holes in chipped windshields and putting filler in it. Too bad they dont have force fields yet

A rock flew up and hit my window as well, a week ago! In my nearly two week old TL! It left a small spider crack about the size of a dollar coin right in the middle of my windsheild. SO I feel all your pain guys. But it bothered me to much to keep it, so I fixed it. Kubrus, and other people in the LA Area, , take it to All-Star Glass in Pasadena, if you going through insurance make sure to get the new windsheid Direct from Acura, its about $445 (their price). They did a great job on my car, and even used new window moldings from Acura upon replacement . I was impressed. Good luck.

I had my windshield replaced last fall because of rock damage. Tell the installer to very careful when removing the moldings that run up the side of the windshield. They are very flimsy and can leave small dimples where they fasten to the concealed clips.

I made the installer buy a new molding for the left side!

crap hitting your windshield does damage. If anyone watched the discover channel that guy was impaled by a piece of rebar on the road. 445 for the windshield! When I accidently kicked in my dads it was about 100(ford)

Same thing here. I got an OEM replacement from All Star. I was able to negotiate my deductible. It started as a small spider but the legs grew quickly by the time I got to the office. It was too late for a chip fix. The OEM glass seem to have more optical imperfections. I do not know if the "safelite" brand is any better.
