Just thought I'd let everyone know: My brother drove the TL to Florida for vacation over the holiday.
Final Stats:
Distance = 2803 miles
Time = 51 hours, 13 minutes
Average Speed = 57 mph
Fuel Economy = 27 mpg
Fuel Used = 103.8
Couple of other notes: The TL is awesome for highway cruising. The navi rocks, and directed us to all of our relative's houses with ease. Also, XM is a must for any road trip. Although it will never replace a good CD collection, the variety is certainly nice. Plus, we used the XM instant traffic stations three times for the trip (once each way through Atlanta, and once in Tampa. When used in conjuction with the Navi, we were able to make a better decision on whether to sit in traffic or to find a detour). One downside: although the TL has very comfortable seats, I found them less comfortable than my old Taurus. Could be because I drove the Taurus for 10 years and wore myself a nice ass groove, so maybe the TL just needs some more "break-in" time.

Did you have any problems with abnormal rear tire wear after those 2 trips? (I guess this question is only applicable if you had rear passengers/luggage).
I went on a 900 mile trip last week but drove the old beater Camry. That thing gets crazy mileage - we had 330 miles on the trip counter when we finally arrived home and still 45% left in gas!

There's a good chance I'll do NYC-Florida and back by spring.

As I posted in this thread I just took my own first road trip last week. It's just amazing how great a road car the TL really is. I however had no trouble with the comfort of the driver seat although I would have preferred more adjustment in the passenger seat.
My wife, son & I took a 6700 mile road trip over three weeks in September. We left just after Labor Day so all of the kids would be back in school. We left Redmond, Washington and hit (in order) Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, back to Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Washington. 15 different states. We saw some incredible country and I would do it again in a minute.
The TL was a blast to drive. I really hated it when my wife or 16 year-old son wanted to drive. We averaged between 33 and 57 mph including gas and lunch stops and depending on how much sight-seeing we did. The TL got between 30 and 34 mpg. I pushed the tire pressure to the high end to help with the mileage.
We bought a bra for the trip to minimize the damage. I think it did the job except I do have some minor scratches where the bra went over the fenders despite my best attempts to keep it clean underneath.
One irritant was the headlight aiming. We were quite loaded down and the lights on low-beam would blind oncoming drivers a quarter-mile away. I went to adjust them and could find no adjusting mechanism - just a hole in the plastic with an arrow. The manual says to take it in to the shop. Does anyone know how to adjust the headlights? Does it take a special tool?
The first pic is from the start of the trip.

No, I don't have any unreasonable wear in my first trip with PVC EL42s, I had prolly 150 lb's luggage on the trunk through the whole 3k+ trip on Nov. 03. Tires were quiet with normal wear, but hydroplaning.

Sidenote: Camry with 2.4L has the excellent MPG for sure...
enjoy with average 28+ MPG, too.

this would be the dream for me and wife, to cruise around states and enjoy the scenes with diversities of environment and nature. This would provide the pleasant and fabulous experiences, especially with this blase TL.
I'd do it again if getting time. I did get the full nose mask, too, it worked wonderfully in sunny days and did protect the hood and front.
