Ride Quality on 18's?

For those of you w/18" wheels. How does the ride quality compare with the 17's? I'm think about getting the 18's in the future but concerned about ride quality on poor roads in and around Chicago. (BTW, does Acura offer chromed 18" A-Spec rims?---I heard that they offer chromed 17" stock rims for around $1000).

There is a thread here about chromed 18' Acura wheels.
Same OEM as the Acura wheels, just chromed. A little under

Ride is fine with 18"
I put 18" wheels and Goodyear F1's on last week and didn't notice much change in the ride. It is more responsive to steering inputs, but ride is the same.

Still waiting for Competch Springs, which I'm sure will stiffen the ride some.

I think any good wheel shop can chrome the 18' OEM's. By then you will have spent enough to buy almost any third party wheel.

Tires are 235
I stayed with the recommended 235/18 as I want to lower the suspension with the Comptech springs and I'd be worried about clearance with 245's. They look OK in the wheel wells, not a lot of open space.

I have the 18's w/ Kumho all-seasons in stock spec trim. Ride is great! I drive in the city, and there are tons of bumps, etc in the road.. the suspension sops it up just fine. I was VERY worried my ride would get too harsh, etc. In fact, it's a very nice blend of improved cornering w/ the same luxury/sport ride. No compromises, i think.

My 19's ride pretty good, so I would expect 18's to fair even better. But I do live in the land of smooth roads, So. Cal.

Zonie, interested in you elaborating on your decision to stick with 235's as opposed to 245's. After perusing trough the search engine and stickies, i have come to the conclusion that 245's would not rub if the car was dropped 1 inch, Although I have no plans to drop myself, i feel it's a safe bet that 245's would not rub on stock ( ie not dropped ) suspension. I may be in error and would like a sanity check on my conclusion. BTW nice wheels, i've gotten the OEM's myself.

235 vs 245
Senoufo

I don't have any facts to support my concern on the 245's. I'm just conservative and stayed with what Acura and Tire rack recommended as the best size. 245 would be nice, but once it's lowered I'll be happy.

Thx for the compliment

Stock 18s beautiful as they are look like the jut out asking to be swiped by a curb. This have any truth or is my perception of pictures just a bit off?

Moreace, that is my concern of 235's on 18', potential of "curbing" mags. Zonie has a beautifull setup and I may go with his setup ( imitation is the sincerest form of flattery), but if I see posts about 245's on stock 18' with no chance of rubbing ( again i'm not dropping ) then i think i'll go with 245's and alleviate the chance of not curbing. Zonie's choice of 235's is very sensible and prudent for "dropping".

On another thread by Sonic, who has pics of chromed 18" OEM
wheels he has purchased, has me thinking of these wheels on my new WDP TL as summer tire/wheel use.

First what are your opinions of this combo on a WDP?
I probably would get Falken 512 ZIEX's in 245/40/18.
I have no plans on doing any suspension mods.
Would this combo work out ok?

Thanks folks,
Craig

Pick up the TL on the 3/30!!!!!

Curbing
The 235 Goodyears protrude out a bit and have a small raised ridge on the sidewall next to the rim that helps prevent curbing. While they wouldn't prevent it as much as a 245, it does help. I had Dunlop SP 9000 on my prior car and they have a ridge also.

They won't prevent wheel damage if you really mash it, but they will provide protection for minor scuffs on the curb.

Of course that's why we have the mirror turn down function to judge the curb. Of course I only park at the curb if I have to. I'm found of the far side of the parking lot.
