So I got my 07 TL-s 6MT last week.. And I found this thread this morning, so obviously I gave it a try.

To be honest, it FELT like it gained some balls.. But I am also willing to admit it 100% could be in my head.

Either way, why not try it?

 

Almost positive that this is for 5AT only so you probably didn't notice anything for a good reason, lol.

 

So as any other TL owner I absolutely LOVE finding out new things about my baby, especially those that have to do with making her feel somewhat newer or at least back to spec, so to speak. However, I recently gave this little trick a whirl and while I am in no way disappointed, I can't really say that I'm impressed. Hopefully, however, the reason that I'm not so impressed is because of my current driving habits, which entail me driving regularly less than 30mph and regularly less than 5 blocks in any direction on a regular basis, and also because I have owned my TL for over 2 years and have never attempted this function. But this weekend, however, I will attempt to reapply the procedure and after I do I'm going to take her out on the highway and see what she can do. Currently I have over 126k on her and very little in the way of mechanical restoration or mods (basic things like the seafoam treatment, new brake kit, gas treatments, and various other menial things) but she has always performed in the way that I would imagine she is supposed to. What gets me though is reading about people saying that the responsiveness is so much "crisper" or "quicker" or that she feels "brand new" because of this little "trick"....really? Have you driven a TL off the line? Doubtful. Anyway, since I essentially drive my lady like an old lady I'm going to rip into her this weekend and hopefully I will be able to experience the rush and new car feel that so many Ziners have felt after have applying this method. So far the results to my local 7-11 for a sixer and some Cheetos at 30mph were humdrum, but perhaps we'll see how this little trick will succumb to a full throttle pedal smash on the open road. I'll keep ya posted.

 

Anyone know if auto ecu will work with a 6spd tranny? If not, can you program the auto ecu to work with 6spd?

Works fine on my 6MT.

 

I tried this 2 or 3 times in the past, I never saw any difference. Maybe I did this wrong, even if its pretty simple. I tried it again 2 days ago by going through process twice as someone mentionned...wow! I def saw a difference this time. A slight improvement in response time, and a considerable difference in shifting. The car shifting in auto mode feel like it should, smooth and quick shift from 1 to 5. I don't understand why the ECU would adapt to our driving if the stock parameter is the best.

 

That products sounds awfully like snake oil.



Surprisingly, they've been popping up on a lot of reputable vendors catalogs since ~2010, and yet have not gone out of business even if the free version to these devices is to press the pedal further in.

 

being super skeptical, after reading how many people here have had success and highly positive things to say, i tried it, and sure enough, it works quite well! i'm talking a literal noticeable difference. quicker acceleration, and even smoother shifting.. i've experienced the "transmission learning" in an 04 dodge sxt that was a shared car with my sister.. she drives old lady style while i'm a bit more spirited.. between us alternating the car, the tranny used to shift like it was confused.. so much that i took it to the dealership a few times and they could never figure it out.. so happy to know that you can "freshen up" the TL so quick and easy. point of the story is, if you share your car with any other drivers, just give this a shot.. and if you don't, still give it a shot, lol. thanks for the info guys, much appreciated

 

I'm the only driver of my car. I don't drive like an old lady, usually a bit more agressive than the average person...let's say if a guy brakes right in front of me, my natural reflex is to check dead spots, then gas and avoid. Most people brake, pisses me off. But my car did manage to feel like if tranny had problem, until i reset ecu

 

In the past week I've done the ECU reset twice. Once on Wednesday & once yesterday.

I noticed the cars throttle response changed quite a bit on low throttle and was a bit more responsive. The car driven very conservatively so the drive-by-wire probably adjusted itself to that driving style.

From Wednesday to Friday I drove in to Toronto (downtown) and there was a lot of stop & go which kinda put the throttle back into its dull position.

Now that I reset it again and went for a quick cruise around the back-roads the car felt real peppy in the low-mid throttle area relative to the amount of input I gave the accelerator.

So far I'm averaging marginally better fuel economy but I think its just the fact that I'm more comfortable with the reset drive-by-wire position.

 

It amazes me with the back and forth of people on this that someone would have asked Acura or looked into it further to get a more definitive answer. Maybe someone has and I missed it?! I was one that felt like it did improve things.

 

Anyone here try this? Any gains on butt dyno?

 

I just did the reset yesterday and I am beyond impressed with the car's response !

Before the reset, my 5AT TL really didn't feel like it was accelerating smoothly/correctly in the sense that some shifts don't happen when they're supposed to and the pedal had to be pushed down JUST a tiny bit more for it to gas as well. Basically the TL just accelerates and shifts more accurately and the pedal's response is more precise after doing this reset.

Also, please correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be a good idea to do the ECU Reset along with a Spark Plug replacement and a 3x3 Transmission Flush (w/ 3rd & 4th Pressure Switches of course.)?

 

I think this works. I kinda feel the difference, not much though.

Reading various sections of the Acura service manual, there is no mention of it. At most, it is changing the throttle response, you're not gaining anything, its just as if you're pressing the pedal further since this car is DBW. Personally I have never felt a difference having tried this numerous times.

 

I just did this on my 2007 TL - World of difference ! Shifting is way better and a lot more power of the line. Definately works !

 

Thx for this thread. Just reset the ECU on my "new" (to me) '07 TL 5AT, which I just purchased a few days ago (10 yr old car with 60.5k miles on the clock). The low-throttle response was much better and I look forward to seeing how the car adjust to my (2nd owner) driving style around town.

Great thread, very helpful. Did not know that I Was having this issue until everyone started describing the same exact symptoms!!~ Slow throttle,etc... Will be resetting my ECU tonight, after I go pick up my baby in the shop,,,getting my timing belt changed, replacing water pump and spark plugs....im stoked....thank you everyone for such great advice. AZ is amazing!

 

Does this method work for my 4th gen?

 

I cant even get 250 miles to a tank on my 07 base TL. I use to get 300-320 but not anymore. Not sure wtf is wrong with it. Maybe I will try this reset and see if it gets better

 

I know I'm 15 years late, but I noticed the same thing on my '08 TL just now, the flashing green battery symbol after like 25 secs on full gas pedal press. I think that is the 'sign it worked' but I've not compared to what happens exactly when I don't press down the gas.
