last I checked they needed a mastercard or visa, they photocopy it, you sign the paper, visually inspect the loaner with a service guy, and you are on ur way my friend

Wouldn't a loaner be insured by the dealer directly? Just a guess.

I had to provide License and current Insurance Card.

I assume the insurance has to list the name of the person driving the loaner, but not sure about that. I figure they are trying to make sure that the loaner and driver are covered, not the car in for service.

Maybe just call them and ask?

Well, yeah, they are insured, but they don't actually want to use their own insurance if the need arises. They want your insurance to pay if you crash the thing.

the dealer has insurance on the car- theirs would be primary and yours secondary

as long as they have a car available- you get one
they are provided by th edealer- not acura- so they are eating the cost of it.
Another reason I take a box of donuts in with me- I would like a clean nice loaner please

I've gotten a loaner on previous occasions and they treat those cars similar to a rental car company... ie. 4 dollar car washes

I think that's only for rental companies like Hertz, Enterprise etc. Most car dealers you only have to be 21, at least all the ones that I've been to while living in CA. All they needed to see was my license and I think my insurance card, or maybe just needed to know what insurance company I was with.

in other states such as in new york... if you are under 25 you can rent a car no problem... but the problem is you can only rent the compact/economy cars... so I was rolling in a chevy aveo hatchback

Liscense & Proof of insurance, with your name on it.

You sign a contract which is basically a rental agreement.

Its not a law, its up to the dealer. It all depends on what their insurance company wants. If you havent asked for a rental when you bring the car in already you shouldnt just assume they will give you one. You should verify that they have one and will give it to you

Age differs by every dealership, the MN dealership in Brooklyn Park is 25.

But you need a drivers license & insurance.

License, insurance card and credit card (in case you don't put gas in the car).

A loaner is covered for 30 days under your current insurance policy. That is why they take that information along with other and make copies. To protect you and them.

I have gotten loaners well before i was 21 and all they took was my insurance. The guy usually tells me not to bother filling it up either "Hey there is a full tank of gas, just make sure there is enough left that we can make it to the station to fill it up again"

I know they always take my credit card and license number. I don't think they need my insurance card. I always make an appt at least a week in advance and always get a loaner for the day. My dealer provides a shuttle to work, but it always seems no one works or lives near me, so I'm always dropped off last which sometimes takes an hour. I've had work done on a Friday twice and I was able to take the car for the weekend. They had to order parts and they wouldn't arrive until Monday morning. As long as I put the gas back in, I was free to do with it what I wanted.

At Niello Acura you have to be 25; since i'm 24 I get shuttled over to Enterprise, they cover $35/day... everything else comes out of pocket. The $35 gets you a Nissan Sentra or Focus, etc. - which in my opinion is not appropriate if I have my TL in for service, I should get a similar car, so I pay $15 out of pocket per day for a G35.

Tomorrow is day #4 for the rental. Sucks, but atleast it's fun.

In IL...bought TL at 20 and also received a loaner at 20.

Insurance does not have to be in your name...my wasn't then, still isn't now, but can still get a loaner.

Insurance follows a vehicle and not a person. Anyone driving a car is insured if they have permission to drive it. (that's why you don't let friends drive your car, if they crash, its on you and your insurance, not theirs).

I'm insured in my household, and although the vehicle is in my name, the policy has my mother as the primary. Even if I was primary, the cards would still have her name on it, because thats how the billing system name is setup. Every car in the household has her name on it.

(I work for an insurance company, the above is not illegal in anyway, just setup to have the lowest rates on each car...again because the cars are covered, not people specifically)

At my dealer in KC they only required my insurance and DL the first time I went in... I get a loaner for any work done to my car other than oil changes. Each time after the first all they asked for was a signature and what insurance carrier I have... don't even ask to see proof.

They also don't have an age limit... at least to my knowledge. I bought my car when I was 23 and my dad has an MDX that I've taken in for him when I was 21 and they gave me a car for his too.

I guess it's really up to the dealer. I bought my car in PA but back in December I called to make an appointment with the closest dealer and requested a loaner and when she realized I didn't buy the car there she still gave me one but said I shouldn't be surprised if I'm denied them in the future. Today I just made an appointment again and I'm pretty sure it was the service manager who took my info and he offered the loaner himself, which is what I was hoping for

Some dealers simply do not have enough inventory and do not offer loaners. Some who don't will arrange something if you are incredibly valuable customer e.g. you bought a car from them.
