Removing tint from back window...

I am going to have my tint removed from the back window. It is killing my radio...I am having it replaced with high quality dye tint guaranteed not to turn purple..its llumar. I have heard its a bitch to remove back tint --has anyone had it done>? Anything I should look out for? I am having the tint shop do it....

I would find out if they are liable if they fuc* up your rear window defroster though. My guess is that if the tint shop removes the tint and gashes into those lines that Acura wouldn't consider that "warranty" work.

SilverJ,

If I was you I will check to make sure that they do not damage any of the wires on the rear window or it will cost you allots of money to fix it.

If you can watch them take it off that will be nice, but if you cant! Check it very carefully to make sure everything is correct.

What tint was screwing up you radio? and was it XM? FM? AM? or all?? I'm having SunTek Metallic 35% put on next week as I read another guy in another thread has no problems whatsoever with this exact brand/% tint. I really hope it doesn't screw with the NAV or radio for me. My room mate is a professional tinter and putting it on for me. He only deals with SunTek tint though so I must use that brand. I'm getting hooked up! He's hoping not to have to take it off cause I worry about those defrosters. Also I'm not going to put mole felt on and will look to see for scratches. I will test by putting specs of dirt in the window to see if that causes scratching.. if it does I guess I will have to get mole felt put on. My room mate is willing to take the tint off if it gets scratched and replace it after putting mole felt on.. He's never had to put mole felt on before though on any cars he's ever done. He's never had any scratching problems with any car and never even heard of mole felt... hmm.. oh well.. as long as he's willing to replace!

k..

I have llumar llumastar ATR-charcoal tint on the car and I am taking it off and putting on a llumar high performance dye tint that I am told by llumar will not turn purple. The metallic tint had a significant affect on my am radio and to a lesser extent my FM radio. Some people dont care as much about the radio so maybe they are not reporting issues. I can say from experience that it seems some metallic tints may have more metal in them than others and you really wont know if its a problem until you install it...I put a lot of time and effort into researching this issue with llumar themselves. I took the car to the dealer and had them check the antenna out...it is definitely the tint.
So the bottom line is the metallic tint..*may* affect your radio/navigation.
I would have never believed it if it didnt happen to me as i had another car that had metallic tint with no issues. Same tint shop...same tint brand.
