Relay for 2006 TL Starter
I have a 2006 Acura TL. Frequently, when I turn the ignition key, I hear a clicking sound.. After a few tries, the car will start. I have two questions:
1. What is the likely reason for this problem?
2. How do I locate and identify the relay for the starter so that I can bypass the ignition key to start the car, if needed?
Thanks for your help.

There's a chance your starter simply may be dying. I just had to replace the starter on my 06 a few months ago, it definitely had a long life. Mind you, mine failed abruptly, no warning. However, on my wife's 06 civic, she experienced the exact same symptoms as you. Intermittent starting issues, took a few times for it to engage and turn the engine over. Also replaced the starter on hers earlier this year.
Def check the relays first. Even your battery terminals, and potentially starter connections. But it wouldn't be too extraordinary for it to be the starter, especially if it is the original. Fortunately, the one on the TL is relatively easy to replace, compared to the hell on earth which was the starter location on that civic of the same year.

I'm sure that it varies greatly, but what is the typical lifespan of the starter in the 3G TL?
I had a question in the sub-forum about the recommended starter replacements for a 6MT Type-S, as I currently have the one click and no start symptom so I think that I need to replace it. Is the preferred approach to go with OEM or a Denso reman starter?

If you find yourself in a pinch where the starter won't engage, you can try tapping it with a hammer or wrench. Sometimes that will get it to start once more to get you where you need to be. But if you're experiencing that symptom, I'd say it's only a matter of time before it's completely dead.

It does indeed vary greatly, because miles driven =/= how hard of a life the starter has had. Either way, I believe I had 225k on mine when I replaced it. My wife's had 170k. Both 2006 cars. I used Denso reman for both, from rockauto, and you simply send your old one back in the mail to get your core rebate. Denso was the OEM brand if I'm not mistaken, and it is definitely the preferred replacement.

I was able to source a used OEM starter, so I'll roll the dice with that one for now but I'll go with the Denso reman next time or try to get the OEM one rebuilt.

I had a Denso remanufactured starter put in my 2006 just a month ago. My symptoms were rather different, and the starter failure was probably brought on by COVID-19. Really? Yeah, prior to the pandemic, I drove my car almost daily and never had an issue with the starter, then I got deemed a Work From Home employee and suddenly I went weeks without driving my car. I'd go out, try and start it, and hear, "rurrrr, rurr, rur, nothing...", almost like a dead battery (but the battery is new and tested good and fully charged). Fortunately I drive a 6MT so I'd just push start the car. A few minutes later it was a 50/50 shot as whether the engine would restart, however, if I then drove the car, say two or three times in a day, bingo, the starter would work every time, same thing the next day, and the day after that. Let is sit for a week or more and the starter would start the thing all over again.
The new (remanufactured) Denso starter has cured the issue once and for all.

two of my MT TL had the starter replaced around 130k - 140k miles, my RL is acting up at 138k miles. I would go for Denso reman unit as the part from Honda are rebuilt as well.

connect the power source directly into your starter to see if it spin once juice applied, if it work using this method meaning the relay is bad. If your starter click meaning it weak and need to be replace.

335K and still on my original starter!
You might want to check the + battery cable. At this age it may be corroded internally where you can't see. That's what fixed my former cranking problem where I thought I'd have to replace my starter.
