05' TL vs 07'

Hey so I totaled my 07', its sitting here in my driveway. Im looking at an 05 to, 182k miles. Was told timing belt was done but I don't have confirmation yet. It was 1 owner and very well maintained from what I can see. He is asking a fair price as well (4k). So my question is if I keep my 07', would there be any issue swapping parts if I needed them, or is pretty much anything interchangeable ? Thanks

I would take a close look at the transmission in the 05. Make sure that your fluid is in good shape, along with your filter, and pressure switches. In the event it has been abused and you (eventually) need a new trans in the 05, the 07 trans will not directly fit into your car. There are other minor things, like headlights, foglights, etc that are different and would require additional wiring to make them compatible, but otherwise, as stated above, most of the parts are interchangeable.

thanks for this info. The trans is one of my biggest concerns about the 05. I'm going to drive it tonight. 1 family owned it, garage kept, and babied for the most part. Still doesn't mean everything is sound though. The timing belt replacement is another big thing I need clarification on for me to consider the car.

$4k is not a fair price for 200k miles on a glass transmission. I would reconsider this and at minimum grab a late build '06 that has the updated transmission. Why not just grab another 07 or 08? You'll be surprised what is out there and available. I don't care if it was garage kept, those cats and sensors are soon gonna be done and you aren't sure about a timing belt.

I hear you. I saw this 05 at my local grocery store and it caught my eye how clean it was. I took a picture and waited almost 2 weeks after to call because my daily beater is literally falling apart. Its inspected til next September, and comes with 4 extra tires. I drove it yesterday and it shifts smoother than my 07 did honestly. Couldn't find anything wrong with the thing. No rust, no leaking, clean interior. I understand this means nothing when it comes to transmission issues. But I am learning here. I guess there is a major difference between an 05 and 06, 07 trans. Was hoping my 07 trans would bolt right up to the 05 but I guess that isn't the case either. Now I'm thinking i should look for somthing past 05 and move on.

I'm not saying it isn't a geat looking car and honestly the transmission may go until forever, but that is the gamble. I bought an 05 last year, as described like you. Ton of maintenance records etc, timing belt, similar mileage. I swear the check engine light came on as I was driving it home. I previously test drove it 2 days prior to purchase. Both Cats were toast etc, he had his mechanic clear codes on me. I had to get things repaired and sold it within 2 weeks. What sucks is the new Owner called me a week later because the Cat failed again and he had to get it fixed before he could title it. I say all this to say why walk into something that has a documented higher failure rate?

I deffinetly appreciate this advice. I cannot take a hit like that right now. As cool as the owner is (we discovered we have mutual friends) I think I will have to pass. I don't know enough about the trans to even begin to see if anything is going on it. If you can even check without it being on a lift? I will keep my eye out for an 06 or 07.

Unless the 2006 has a manual transmission I'd be leery about that as well; it was the 2007 and 2008 models which had the better transmission.

Wait....what? Is this actually a thing? Would a late model 06 have an identical trans to the 07/08? Or is it "updated" in some other way? I have an 06, but (without looking at the serial number), It has the external trans filter that the 07/08 doesn't have. I am just curious about this because I've never heard of it.

*edit*

Mine was manufactured december 2005 so I guess it's irrelevant for me, but I'm still curious about it.

My point exactly, the 2006 does NOT have the same transmission as the 2007 and 2008 models, nor does it have the same transmission as the 2006 and 2007 Accord V6 models.

It seems I stand corrected, other than possibly some bugs being worked out. Most failure rate is 04-05 I felt. 06 made improvements as I understand 07/08 is different. Either way OP look to stick to 07/08 if possible is the point.

I'd be keeping the Nav system with XM Traffic for which you can still get updates, the backup camera, and the tire pressure monitors. You'll also have to get a DRL module as the '05 doesn't have daytime running lights.
