REAR DOME wire

okay so i've searched and searched and found great info all over the forum; however, none if it answers a SPECIFIC question....

i want to put floor leds in that run off the rear domes. (someone did this with their puddle lights in a search i ran.) all of the threads just say to tap the rear dome wire for my + connection.

1. where can i tap the rear dome wire besides at the dome itself?

surely it has to run from a wire bundle somewhere that doesnt involve me getting into the headliner.

2. what color is the wire?

thank you all sooooooo much! this is my first post and the forum is awesome! i got my 06 TL last week and i'm excited to get to work on it. i hope to be a useful contributor to the forum for a long time.

Welcome to AZ. I will check my electrical manual when I get home tonight and post up what I find.

OK. 04-06TL Rear dome wires are White (Drivers side) and Green w White stripe (Passenger). The harness runs from the domes along the top of the rear windshield to the drivers side, then along the roof just above the doors up to the A pillar, where it comes down to the fusebox. Looks like you can tap the wires at the fusebox if you can identify the harness.
I had also thought about tapping the door switches (a la lighted doorsills), but I don't think that will give you the fadeout effect.
Good luck!

Hey all,
I've been scratching my head at where to tie into as well. I wired everything for my footwells up last night and got them working with an add-a-fuse but now they are on all the time when the ignition is on. I read thru some eletrical diagrams in our UA6 manual and think i found the answer. the 5-pin connector 'W' in the fuse/relay box under drivers kick panel. tie into the GRN/RED wire (green wire with red stripe)..see pictures and let me know what you think...

I dunno if you were reading my DIY but I tapped directly from the roof. I wondered the same question you are asking but I didn't want to wait/search for the answer, lol. I just wanted to get on with my project.

Tapping it low would make more sense of course. Running that wire is not too hard but it's not fun either. Whole rear seat and side panels had to come out.

Flash appears to be correct. There is a Light Green 5 wire connector at the fusebox which has a Green with Red stripe wire which you want to tap for the rear domes. While I have not confirmed this, it is in the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual. Will see if I can track this connector down and get pics today.

I've been working long hours, but will post my findings once I can try tapping that wire here in the next day or two...

update: I tapped into that wire, which was a b**ch to get to because its behind the fuse/relay box, and it doesn't work how I thought it would. It makes the footwells come on once you get in and shut the door, and the lights stay on until the ignition is off or you turn off the dome lights via the switch on the map light console. it's kinda cool how you can turn it on and off from that switch, but it requires turning off the roof lights as well...

That functionality, while unintentional, really isn't that bad.
So what makes the domes fade if that wire supplies constant power? The "puddle lights" guys are making this work by tapping at the rear dome. Their pudds come on with the unlock and fade out after door close just like the domes. They also switch on with the manual switch in the overhead. What are we missing?
