Angry rear bumper cover

Hey everyone,

I just noticed that my TL was hit in the rear bumperby the the passenger side. It must have happened in the parking lot of a mall a few days ago.
No damage to the body but the rear bumper cover is scratched up pretty bad. I think it needs to be replaced, along with the passenger side rear tail light which is cracked.
Of course, the person who hit my car did not leave a note.

For those who had to get the rear bumper cover replaced and painted, can you tell me how much I should expect to pay to have the work done?
Also, anyone know the cost of the rear taillight? - Any good place that sells online at a cheap cost?

Thanks in advance,
Bien

I cant quote you on the tail light but when someone ran into the back of me the rear bumper cover (OEM, at this time there were no aftermarket bumper covers out) painted and installed was 780. I would assume an estimate now would be much cheaper as there are reman'd covers, etc. I would suggest, if you want to save on cost, to bring the body shop an unpainted bumper and just install the sucker yourself.

Yeah, I definitely would replace with the OEM rather than aftermarket.
$800 seems steep but what choice would I have if I wanted to replace, as I yet to see repaint and repair turn out well over a few years.

Anyone know of any decent dealerships which do business online where I can get the bumper and taillight at a good price?

I'll just have the bodyshop paint the bumper. - may have to blend into the rear fender.

Bien -

I just had my 05 TL hit on the pass rear side, which scratched up the bumper pretty bad and cracked the tail light. I thought the bumper needed replacing, but they repainted it - and it looks great. Total charges for repaint and tail light replacement were $540 dollars - done. Really glad I had to cough up my $500 deductible on that one.... Then some one backed into my rear pass door, 4 days after I got it back from the shop.... Good luck.

Well, I just quoted it out and an unpainted bumper cover from the dealer runs about $249 and this is the only way you can get it. A color match paint job from a certified Acura shop will run $300 on top of it all. None of this includes labor but it really isn't hard at all to remove the cover yourself, just a flat and a philips screwdriver and a 10mm socket wrench. I was quoted $700 for the entire thing, labor included. Sorry to hear about your TL.

Yeah, I am begining to wonder if the TL is a magnet for little scuffs such as these.

Any ideas as to the cost of the tail light?

I recently had my rear bumper repainted instead of having the bumper cover replaced. It cost a bit over $300 and it looks good. As far as the taillight cost, try checking out

Thanks guys, it looks like the parts will cost me arount $400 without the paint.

I'll have the body shop look at the bumper cover, and see what they say. There are a couple of deep scratches and gouges which may not be repairable.

Well, I have a similar story i will post.

3 days ago, while looking at my TL with my mechanic, and some friends, we noticed what looks like a BUMP on my rear bumper. at first we couldn't feel anything protruding, but when we ran out hand in a certain direction over it, you could definitely feel a bump. Must be some kind of defect in the bumper.

So I took my TL in to Acura today, to have them replace the bumper. They lent me a TSX (I HATE IT, thank god i didn't buy one. )

I am sorry i didn't take pictures of the bumper. However, thanks to suggestions from this forum, I FORCED the manager to do a walk-around inspection of my car with me, and sign off on the perfection of my car on his paperwork. I also mentioned to them how the TL they had parked outside with the other cars being serviced, was rubbing up against the curb they parked it over. I asked them NOT to park my car over a curb.

By the way, when i asked if we could do the walk-around inspection, he looked at me bug-eyed. I had to explain to him, that i wanted to walk around the car with him , and confirm the car's condition of new and perfect. I asked him if they do that, and he said "no , my job is to get you in and out of here as quickly as possible." I said "yeah, i can see that."

This is the shady part. They had me choose a bumper, from one of the other Brand new TL's sitting on the lot, and I can't comfirm it, but i believe they are placing my old faulty bumper, on to the car they take it off of. unbelievable.

They asked if i wanted it washed. I'm iffy on this, because i saw the 16 year olds, pressure washing the other TL's.

I honestly don't trust the dealership to do work on my car. I was very skeptical going in. I offered them cash to take special care of my car, but they refused it. I am pretty anal, but I have just heard so many bad stories of things happening, and people not hearing about what happened.

sigh,

b.t.w. I hate the TSX loaner. the car can barely climb hills. the radio sounds awful. The tires SUCK. its non-navi. Its not my TL. the engine sounds weak. lots of road-noise. and its really uncomfortable. Its unbelievable the difference a 3,000 dollar jump in price makes between the TL and TSX in terms of overall quality.

I just got my Acura a couple weeks ago and I was out waxing it today and noticed that my rear bumper cover is completely dull on the drivers side. Like they didn't put enough clear coat on it. Weird. I guess the dealer is going to be replacing it.

If my bumber got scratched in a parking lot I think I would just get it repainted. Probably cost the same as the deductable. Also, I would take the bumper off the car and take it to a shop to get repainted.

Sorry about your car. Take comfort in the fact that it was only the bumber. Just about this time last year I came out of church (yes, church) and found someone had backed into the driver's side rear bumper on my car. Of course they drove off. Had two witnesses who described the truck but didn't get a plate. Anyway, it caught the bottom corner of the truck lid and bent it in. Had to respray the trunk and replace the bumper cover. Around $12-1300 total.

It's bad enough to have any paintwork on a car but if it's only the bumper it doesn't bother me as much. It's almost like they're not part of the car, that's what they're there for.

I had my rear bumper cover replaced and paid $650 including bumper, paint, etc. I think the actual bumper was $250 to $300.

I haven't had the time to get the repairs done yet, but it seems like a rather inexpensive fix to get the bumper cover repaired/painted.

I'm actually wondering if it may even be worth it to have it repaired right now, since I've been seeing quite a few TLs with the scratched up rear bumpers.

I'm concerned that after I repair the bumper, it will get damaged soon.
The people in northern NJ drive and park like jerks. They have absolute no consideration for anyone else.
