i remember back in the days early high school..i had to sneak my car out of the house...

what i would do is slap it on Neutral...push it down the driveway then start it away from the house...usually in the road...so my parents wont hear it.... then i be gone like the wind

quiet starter no need?... ahhh the young life

Remove the battery and the battery shelf.

The huge pry bar is resting on the bottom starter bolt. The starter is the round aluminum looking thing with the orange label.

I remember those days. Unfortunately mine had open exhaust so we had to push it at least 1/4 mile or it would wake the parents up. Coming home was the same, kill the ignition and hopefully coast all the way to the house.

i forgot to add, that if anyone does this starter replacement, make sure you use a torque wrench that is set properly to tighten the bolts. It's important because the bolts are screwed into an aluminum housing and if you strip those threads on that aluminum housing, it will mess you up pretty bad. And one thing I noticed was that 47 ft # was not very tight when I tightened the bolts. It was still easy to go way beyond that, and I was not using that big bar you see in the pic. My torque wrench might be half the length of that big bar you see in the pic. So, be warned. Use a torque wrench. Its very important to use one when you screw into aluminum. Aluminum is much easier to strip than iron or steel or some other harder metal.

Who cares if the starter is noisy as long as it turns over strong theres no problem... Its for starting the car and thats it. Its not like its a belt or something making noise the entire time the engine is running.

I agree. Mine stopped starting the car... And it showed signs of age and degradation by access noise and turning slower.

You might try reading the entire post before you make a stupid comment. You and IHC and Italiano are all alike.

How do you remove the battery shelf? I have a 06' and I couldn't remove the shelf. I may be missing something.

There are 2 bolts under the shelf. They screw into the side of the car. Use an extension and possibly a short swivel on the end. When ready to put back together, use something to clean the bolts and the place they screw into. Becareful when reinstalling the top screws. I threaded one bolt 1/2 way into the hole, then it decided to strip out on me. So, use a lubricant to clean the rusty holes after you have it dismantled and are ready to put it all back together. The shelf is solid as a rock, but one of my screws needs to be replaced.

Is this what you consider a good thread because it seems like a typical chad thread. A question is asked and it ends in chad knowing it all telling everyone else they're wrong. It's the same pattern with every thread. Luckily this one was started by yourself so there's really nothing to destroy. I try to look at the bright side. Now you know that sometimes a failing part can make noise or the normal noise can change as it fails. I think we all knew that already but at least it's settled now.

A good thread being destroyed would be the IAC thread that was going great with information being exchanged until you came in and started spreading tons of misinformation that had to be corrected. You didn't bother to read the thread, you just spammed it with tons of crap that had already been answered. I don't care as long as others know not to believe it but I feel bad for a noob that might not know any better.
