Hello Acura World I Am Nick. I am 20, working on my way to get a permit ( yes i know ) and eventually a liscence. Pardon my spelling im too lazy as well

i have been admiring the Third Gen TL since i was 14 all i do is look at them online and forums like these. i plan on getting one myself as a my own perferably an 07-08 TL type s 6speed. but i have alot of questions on the Tl and i decided to come here to ask.

what are good colors for this generation of this car?
i wanted midnight purple myself

has anyone converted to RWD? AWD?

any massive engine mods? like turbo or even an RL swap if possible

interior ideas? unique colors or anything special

if these question give you the idea that im stupid, im very sorry but im serious as ever and im very intrested in trying think ahead of what i want to do with a Tl if i get my hands on one.

Can i see pictures as well of your TL if your in this thread please

You should check out the Photo Gallery in this forum and see what's possible. With enough money, most things are possible. However, your money would be better spent getting a production car closer to whatever you're trying to do. If you want AWD, get an RL or 4g TL instead trying to retrofit a 3G.

 

Check out the photo gallery section of the forum, you'll see a bunch of customizations and get an idea of what you may be looking for. All you need is the money.

I've never heard of anyone trying to convert a 3G TL to RWD or AWD, but I suppose it's possible with the right amount of money. Honestly, for a FWD car, the TL handles great.

Engine mods: there are plenty, and again with the right amount of cash, just about anything is possible.

It's fine to ask, but what you're asking is all subjective. It all depends on what you want from your future car. You'll definitely find some inspiration from the photo gallery though.

 

I suggest if you do search then use google it gave you a better result than that search button.

 

It's a good reliable car but there's a limited market for modding.
If you want to mod more I'd suggest an 05-06 RSX-S.

and i really liked it but it didnt come manual

Since you admitted yourself that your a lazy 20 years old, here are the color options for the Type S ;-)
Nighthawk Black Pearl (NBP)
Alabaster Silver Metallic (ASM)
White Diamond Pearl (WDP)
Carbon Bronze Pearl (CBP)
Kinetic Blue Pearl (KBP)
Moroccan Red Pearl (MRP) <---best color on the Type S haha. im not biased.

All look great and you cant go wrong with any of them. There are only two interior combos available for the Type S and its Ebony/Silver or Taupe. I personally like Ebony silver because everything is just black including the headliner which is cool. Taupe interior also looks great, but the seats are extremely light colored...like a light gray and show their age pretty easily if they haven't been maintained well. Headliner and pillars are also light gray with light gray door panel inserts as well.

All 6spd manual Type S's are difficult to find regardless of color...and if you want low miles and a specific color...simply put, goodluck!

I have the RL engine in my tl-s it's got the j35a8

 

You can bolt on 20-30 whp which is around 10-15% increase in power.

I gained 30 whp on my cls so it's definitely doable

 

 

well i dont much about cars and specs, but i do love them, if it makes any sense to you i just get confused with what to build it the car to make it sound powerful. like turbo & intake and things like that i just get stumped thinking about these things i dont know what i'd do. i wouldnt want it to be all exhaust noise.
what i do know is that an 07 TL-s is the definate TL i want
i just want to do enough to the car that it stands out.


As for me I think the best color is the Desert Mist And The Abyss Blue
but if i dont get the color i want i was gonna get a paint change to maybe a nice purple, a teal/aqua green or hot red.

I could easily drain the cost of a 4G TL in mods on my 3G TL and still want for more.

 

I own a 2008 TL-S 6MT myself, and have loved it since day 1. As has been said earlier, there is quite a few things you can do. Recently I got the ATLP cat-back and a CAI. Eventually I will do the pre-cat deletes which gives you a 15hp gain (just quoting what I have seen on sites, not sure if there are any dynos). Regardless, I always knew this car would sound mean when there was no restriction in the exhaust, and doing that upgrade proved it.

As mentioned before, look at what some of the other guys have done to their cars. There are whole dash kits available to make your interior dash any kind of wood you can think of, and that would make it stand out. Getting a Ronjon body kit is something else. Suspension and wheels, tinting etc. There are turbo kits and supercharger kits, the choice is yours. It all boils down to money.

Good luck getting your hands on a manual, they are rare. If not, you can pay to get a manual transmission installed at Acura. I'm sure that I've read someone getting that done already.

All this talk of turbos and paint jobs makes me very nervous for what is going to happen here. So far you're already talking about close to $10,000 in mods to do those two things well.

Its probably a good idea to find and purchase a 3g TLS first. You can dream about modding it after whatever maintenance is needed on a used car, car payments, insurance, & gas.

all i see here in new york is the base model which i have nothing shainst and some others

insurance is the main worry for me in honesty

The schematic highlights all the pieces that you would be replacing with their kit. They do have a video, just poke around on the site.

An exhaust and CAI will run you around $2400. Turbo\Superchargers are around $5500 for the kit, and that's just entry level. Just look at www.heeltoeauto.com to look at prices for mods so you get a general idea of the costs.

hmmm lol...you remind me of me when i was around 19yrs old with my first car. I thought it was easy but it isn't. It's a big responsibility dude. The TL it self specially from 07-08 yrs will run you for your bucks despite the fact that it's one of the cheapest make when it comes down to others such as BMWs and Benz in terms of maintenance and modifications unless you're one of those rich kids lol.

Anyways, it's definitely a great car to have but if your looking to modify it you will need to do the following.

1. Get your license.
2. Buy the car and have insurance.
3. start with window tints or interior LEDs lighting.
4. CAI - Cold Air Intake
5. Then the big guns can follow after (rims, kits, suspension, turbo, computer mod, customized interior and such).

Bought the car 4 yrs ago and im still working on step 5 lol.

 

Here's some good advice on the CAI.

I installed a CAI on my TL that dips down into the bumper.
You have to be vigilant when it comes to driving during heavy rain. Puddles are no joke.

 

I feel your pain dude. Specially here in NY/NJ..my speed goes from 25 to 10 when i see puddles and i don't even dare in stepping the gas pedal.

 

i know i just hate how the car price goes up everytime i check the price a tl s 07
runs from 12k-19k
and im like wtf!
sometimes i think im better buying a base model and starting it from the ground up.
I want the TL-s is because of the the sportiness
the seats, the extra power, the looks
but i dont know if its worth getting a base and buliding it
im not a fan of reps lol

 

It's not much of an extra power as you think bro. It's only slightly more. I'll be converting mine into a type s lol ofcourse not touching the engine just the interior and exterior to make it look like one or better.

Well according to my research it will run me about $6k-$7k total.

Also doing a repaint of my current paint which i found a professional who would do it for $2k for me
