Purchasing a Used TL

Hello i am interested in buying a used TL but looking for under 12k with around 80k mileage. I am basically limited to the 04-06 years. Anyway are there any differences between these years? I plan to keep the car until it hits 150k miles so hoping it will last long. Which years are more likely reliable? Is there a way I can see if the proper maintenance has been done?

Well for one you're not going to find one at 12k with 80k miles. I just got an 06 with 88k and paid 15,1k, it does have navi but it still would have been probably around 14 or more. Sadly, the 07-08 I've heard have the better trannys but anything 05 and later should be good. Lastly, this car should last you WAY over 150k miles, just take care of it and service it right.

I understand you're new but this topic has been beaten to death. Please search around, there are tons of threads on the differences between model years and such. Go to Google and type in "Acurazine" plus whatever you're looking for.

As others said.

04-06 for only $12,000 is unrealistic when you want it to be only ~80k miles. Unless you're considering salvage title TLs.

Think about it.
A 04 with only 80k miles... That means the owner only drove ~10,000 miles a year.

A 06 with only 80k miles means the owner only driven for approx 13,500 miles a year.

Here in the US the average car owner drives 15,000 miles/year. Many upwards to 17k-25k miles a year... Most 2004-2006 TL will have well over 100k miles by now and still cost close to $15,000 with no navi.

Good luck.

Well I have been looking at autotrader, craigslist and you guys are right it's hard to find one 04-06 with around 80k miles. I really don't want to buy a car with over 100k miles. Well I am cross shopping looking at g35 as well but its a little more pricey. Around 16-18k but I am looking at the 2007 and up sedan model with around 80k miles as well. If I have to spend around 15k for a used TL, think I may as well go a little more and go for the Infiniti G35 right? Anyways I am still looking and planning on looking until end of summer and trying to find the best deal possible. I wanted a 2006-2007 Lexus IS 350 as well but that car is a lot more pricey and way too small for me, in terms of leg room for rear passengers. These were the only 3 cars I was considering because I wanted a car to last long and be luxury, so european cars were not considered. Still looking though and I have plenty of time before I make a decision.

I bought my 2007 TL for 14,995 with 90,000k a few months ago. I considered that a steal in my opinion. I would not compare the G35 to a TL. I think the TL blows it out of the water. I have always driven VW's and since I bought this I will never go back. Just my .

Like others have posted you won't find it as you found out. For 16-18 you can find an 07 TL. Not sure where you live but I have seen a few 07 TL and 08s right around 80k miles going for that higher price range.

I really want to see this 08 with 35k miles asking $17.5 in Los Angeles, CA not sure if its a clean title or not, didnt specify but its one of those cases where owners are moving out of the country and need to sell quickly. It takes time to find the car you want, just be patient and not get upset about what asking prices are going for all three models your looking at. These are high valued luxury cars even if they are close to 5-7yrs. old.

Took me close to 4 months before I found my color combo and price range was spot on, BUT mileage was a bit on the high side which I'm fine with since they last.

It really depends on what you are looking for..

The G35 (3350 lbs) is quicker than the TL (auto for auto, manual for manual) due to it weighing 200-300 lbs LESS than the TL (Almost 3600 lbs). G35 also has slightly more HP and more TQ than the TL and the G is also RWD..

However the interior (Where you will be sitting 100% of the time while driving the car...) design of the G35 is GARBAGE. Looks plain jane vanilla. Even the 2012 G37 interior looks trash. FACT

In my opinion, exterior wise the TL looks better than the G35 no doubt. I would say IS350 and TL are about equal in terms of exterior styling..

The TL gets better gas mileage than the G35 that's a fact... You can easily get 25MPG driving highway 70% of the time... G35 you'd be around 20.

Now for the IS350. It's a nice car if you can get past the fact that the rear seat is small and cramped... RWD, 300HP, 270HP tq, 3500lbs... Plenty of power if you are into a luxury sports car that can hold it's own against plenty of other cars in it's group... This is where the base model TL lacks against competitors, but makes up for it in exterior/interior styling..

If I were you, I would consider a IS350, than a TL, than a G35 last.... EVERYONE has a damn G, you can't drive around town without seeing them everywhere you go. The gauges on the G is ugly as hell, it's ORANGE. Boring.

I am in the Los Angeles, CA area. So I see a lot of Acura TL, Infiniti G35, and Lexus IS. For luxury I thought Lexus was the best but kinda too pricey and small for me. So I probably won't be getting that car but I am still considering it if I can find it for the right price. BTW that's the older version of the G35, although your right, Infiniti doesn't have the best interior, but it did get a lot better with the 07 and up. Considering I live in LA, I might be able to find the car kinda quick, because these cars are so popular in this area. Just needs to be in the right price and we'll see what I get. One of the problems I have found looking at these cars, there are quite a bunch of them involved in accidents. So that limits me as well as I don't want a car involved in an accident or salvaged.

I bought my 04 non navi with 72k on it for 13k. Had side damage that was fixed, so just needed a good detail job and a dent pulled. Loving the mpgs, currently getting 29 as rated while driving 90% highway. First thing done to it was a 3x3 flush with redline d4/racing/lightweight ATF mixture along with mobil1 synthetic. Must have been the original ATF as it was dark as the oil, luckily nothing on the magnet :-)

The only regret that I have was not test driving the 6speed for another 700$, had 90k miles but it was an 06 with No warranty. Mine is covered for a year or 12k miles. (different dealerships with different coverage)

Maybe I'll fall into some good luck and trade my 04 in a year for a 6speed :p

I bought mine in Woodland Hills, CA. One owner! Clean title no accidents!. Got it inspected for framework damage etc and nothing. Paid $13.7 with 95k miles before registration fees.

The interior needed major cleaning, so dark when its parchment leather lol
She was asking 15.5 but I said that way too much for the mileage and the fact that the 105k service was due soon, I was like you need to drop it. She agreed but thought her asking price was fair since she compared to others alike. But color combo was a bit hard to find which was true RRP was not common.

G35

Before I bought my TL the G is off my list due to unreliable in electrical issue, interior looks like crap compare to the other two.

the battle of choice was BMW 335i (I decide later drop it cause the turbo and fuel pump problem) IS350 and TL-S it was hard for me to choose between IS350 and TL-S. IS pros: RWD, 305hp engine, 3 position memory seat including passenger, reliable and most important ventilated seat . but it lacks of back seat leg room which I need for my baby . TL-S got 286HP instead of 300HP from other competitor and FWD but make up in exterior/interior styling, there are no options in this car. Rear leg room is quite more than the IS350.

TL is MUCH better year round. I was also considering those other cars. I was SO close to buy a New 08 BMW 135i with quite a few options. I had a big list recently and test drove several cars. Lexus GS 430 loaded white, and Infiniti M45X pearl whits, and others. I still prefer the TL, and Especially the 07-08 Type-S, but that will be out of your price range.
