Purchasing a 06 TL
Purchasing a 06 TL
Hello everybody, me and my dad stopped by an Acura dealer today and looked at some left over 06 TLs. We test drove it and everything, and then talked to the sales person, in the end, was offered $27000 plus T.T.L. on a auto/non-navi. I know this is a very good deal, but with it being end of the year and new model coming out, do yall think I can get a deal better than that?
Wow...That sounds like a fantastic deal. I just bought mine last weekend for $28,800 plus TTL and thought that was a good deal. Assuming that your price includes destination, that's what....around $3,500 below invoice? I know there's around a $1,000 dealer holdback and a $2,000 factory to dealer incentive right now, and even with that you're making out like a bandit. If your price doesn't include destination, you're still at around $2,800-2,900 below invoice. I say run with it.

Even though these have some cool features like traffic, it is absolutely worth it to have a navi integrated with the car.

About 2 months ago (mid-September), 31K looked like a good deal for Navi and 29K for non-Navi. Since it's now November, I think that 27K sounds reasonable.
Even if you get greedy and try to hold out for say 25K for non-navi in December, by then inventory might be out of stock for the color or options you want (MT/AT). Or the only car left in the lot might be the so-called nearly-new model with 6000 miles on it. The real question is how many 06s are left on the lot? If there are a bunch you're in a stronger position.
The other thing in your favor (at least till tomorrow - November 30th) is that it's the end-of-the-month, so the salesmen are eager to meet their November quotas. (Unless they've already met them, and want the sale to be part of December.)
Finally, right now, compare that $27K to a non-TLS 07 stickered closer at 33K. Granted, in January that price will fall. But in the meantime, you can get a new 06 for about 6K. And the new bells and whistles probably aren't worth 6K. (And if you want a manual transmission, better jump on the 06s -- for 07 only the TL-S has it for around 38K.)
Good luck.

There are about $3000 factory to dealership holdback. that makes dealer's invoice price to aroun d 27000, but they will charge you with destination, documentation, and dealership fee (thats where they make a profit).

What I meant was:
If you look at Acurazine, even though there are people from all over, it seems like there are a lot from certain metropolitan areas, like Southern California, New York-NJ, Chicago, Atlanta, etc.
So I figured, car prices in those areas are probably lower because there are a lot of people buying and selling cars, so there's a lot of competition. If you live somewhere less populated, then there might only be enough people to support 1 or 2 Acura dealers, so you'd be stuck with their prices. If you live in New Jersey where the whole state is only 60 miles wide and there are probably a dozen dealerships, if one doesn't have good prices, you can always find another one 40 minutes away.
Since lots of people travel back and forth between New York or New Jersey and Southeast Florida, I figured they could help pressure the dealers in Florida to sell for less, because they could always get their cars up North. (Or they could pressure the NY-NJ dealers because they could get their cars in FL.)
Maybe this theory isn't true -- I really didn't bother to test it against the other threads where people report how much they paid for their TLs and where.
On a similar note, I wonder if Edmunds.com, Auto-by-Tel, or the other car sites provide pricing info by zip-code. Or, if their sites ask you your zip-code, and you enter a different one, you can see if the prices change.
(Unlike real-estate where you can check a town's records for home-sale prices, there's probably nothing comparable where you can check the Dept of Motor Vehicles to see what people paid for their cars.)
Just my two cents.
No your right, it all comes down to DEMAND and SUPPLY.... My town, Boise, ID only has one dealership, so I'm kind of stuck with paying right below invoice... Not a bad deal, just not as good as it would be in a larger metro.
Thanks for the help....

If it helps -
Here in Philly about 3 weeks ago, a dealer nearby sent me the following '06 prices:
06 TL: $27,999
06 TL w/Navi: $29,760
Real nice of them, since I bought my '06 3 weeks early for $30 and change and they bitched up a storm!

Today's newspaper said New Jersey's had the highest auto rates for 16 out of the past 18 years!

A few months ago, when there were no 07s out, I think a lot of us had trouble waiting for them. Meanwhile, the 06s were still available, so we couldn't resist.
Lower prices on the 06s also played a role, but consider this -- how many of today's 07 buyers are willing to wait 3 months for a price drop?
Lol, the way I look at it it that, the longer I wait, the less insurance, gas, and other expenses I have to pay. And it gives the dealership the impression that I need one of those impulse buyers and actually takes my time to do shop around and researches. I have bought 3 cars in the year of 2006, so I have learned alot.

Reference from the Atlanta area - bought my '06 Anthracite/Ebony TL Navi three weeks ago for $31,600. Obviously would have preferred cheaper than that, but the '06 Navis have been moving real quick and there were only a handful left in the state by then. Anthracite was my top color pick, and the other one I was looking at was a silver that the dealer offered to me for $33,400 and doubted me when I mentioned the Anthracite deal I was offered elsewhere.
So with a lot of holiday driving coming up, I took the bird in the hand rather than risk ending up without a good option on a discounted '06.
And closing the deal kept me from the temptation of stretching my budget for an '07 Type-S ... so I can still eat out from time to time.
