Processing Fee? What have you been Charged.

I am working with a dealer in Virginia, on an 08 TL with Nav. They are quoting me in the low 29's. The only additional fees are tax and title (of course).
And a $385 processing fee.
Does the $385 sound fair? What have your dealers charged for processing?
Thanks

The $385 is pure profit for the dealer if you ask me. Try and have them take that crap off.

That's definitely bullshit! I am looking at my invoice for my car right now. And the dealer only charges:

Price of car
Documentation Fee - $45
Waste Tire Fee - $12.50
NYS Inspection - $10
Sales Tax - (NY Tax)
License and Title - $114.50

That's it, you shouldn't pay anything else than these charges.

Thanks, Like a dummy, I didn't factor in those fees when comparing pricing between dealers. I think I may have to start all over again.
First step will be to get this fee reduced a lot at this dealer.

Special Note: to all you guys looking for a new TL. Watch the processing fee BS.

Unless you go North around the DC area you will pay +$250. DC metro and North into MD is <$100. Since everthing is done electronicly and via mail, 90% of fees are profit.

I believe since the destination fee is usually on the sticker of the car.
It is usually included in the price of the car when you are negotiating the price.
And it is a set price from acura.

I got my 06 OTD for 23,500$
I told them that I will not pay any more than that and that it includes that processing fee. ( which would have been 320$.

They had to think about it and came back and said fine.
Its all about how you negotiate

What dealer btw?

I am working with Radley Acura. I am actually located in NY, so it would have to be a very good deal for me to travel. Up until the processing fee they seemed pretty good and I would almost prefer to give them the sale.

If you are talking about Rallye Acura in Roslyn, NY then they are definitely BSing you. I purchased my car there as well and there is no such thing as a processing fee.

EACH STATE has actual standard amount the `licensed auto dealer` is required to charge each customer for processing fees of paperwork-
it includes them getting the DMV notified of new owner- getting license plates if needed- the time required for writing contracts etc who knows what--like I said each state is different in what price it sets and whats covered
may be $45 may be $345!
You can check online for exact amounts at dwv websites

Destination fee is a negotiable item- so are undercoating which you dont need-
or interior sprayed on protection (scotchguard) or etching the VIN into the window glass--thats all stuff you didnt ask for and dont need to pay for

While the dealer will give you what you want in one area of the deal- its only because they set up `margin to play` until you `feel good` about the deal and sign the contract.
A salesman or manager will never talk to you about a car without looking at their file (when they get the keys or copy your license) and knowing how much they are into the car for total-(purchase/trade what they paid and any repairs and detailing cost)
and how much profit they would like on that car- and what the minimum price the manager will sign off for on the deal--

USE `consumer reports`- their car price service
get actual dealer price paid info- and cost of accessories jackup items

You also want to ask to see the dealer invoice of what they paid acura for that particular car- WITH all the insider rollback incentives and rebates to the dealer from acura-
They will try to show you a computer print just like the window sticker-
Thats bs-anyone can write a computer list
you want to see the hand written carbon paper one that shows the real numbers after all the insider stuff is removed

IMO- if you pay near or more than the base price number at the top of the window sticker- the one before the extras and factory extras yadayada- not the one at the bottem- not the one on the extra paper where they handwrote- delievery and dealer prep (washed) $1200, paint protection $500 --just laugh when the saleman points to that number
Head out the door... and as the Sales Manager runs after you (literally) saying Whats wrong- why cant we make this deal?
You reply- Your salesman and I speak a different language- they seem to be speaking RETAIL and I came here to make a Wholesale Deal~~

IMO-
I would always bypass the salesman who wants a commission - a big fat check please!!!
while the Sales MANAGER-- just wants the total numer of cars sold at months end to have 1 more- --so deal directly and only with that person- have your own finance in hand going in-
call a few times- different shift on duty- and ask who is the Sales Manager- then call them for an appointment ( also see websites for contact person info

Say to them- I have limited time and dont like to waste it
I am ready to buy an xx- I want your best price please- I have a quote of 27 xxx from dealer B in the next town, can you beat that?

Also try several dealers internet sales dept- you can make a good deal there since they are saving on sales staff- often 1 Manager runs the internet sales site
call them-or email and ask same thing- Need your best price on--ready to buy today for the right price-

The biggest thing in auto sales is- who CAN buy it today- wanting and able --are different things
A sale today is all that counts

Dealers in FL charge a $599 - $699 processing fee/document fee/dealer fee. It's all the same. I normally negotiate this off the price of car and give them around $100 for processing paperwork.

I bought my TL from Pohanka in June '06, they charged a $299.00 processing fee. The sale manager was unwilling to negotiate this line item . . . it was part of my bottom line.

Radley Acura in VA throws in free lifetime oil changes with purchases so make sure to ask them about it.
