Please help...what do I do????
Allright guys. As many of you may know, I am a the Chairman of the Bumper Repainting Committee for team WDP. I earned (or gave myself, rather) this title thanks to the fact that I have a lovely yellow tint to my bumpers that are on a white car. The saga began a few weeks ago where the factory rep came out, looked at my car and said "Wow, this isn't right at all....we have to make this right". Well, my car has been with the dealer since last Tuesday getting the bumpers fixed (so I thought).
I got a call yesterday from my service advisor. He told me that my car was back, but to be prepared because the bumpers don't look much different than when I brought them in. What to do?? Should I refuse delivery if I go to pick it up today and they look just as bad, or am I destined to live with this forever (even though there are pleanty of WDP TLs with bumpers that match well)?

If their own factory rep said it wasn't right, then Acura needs to make it right, period. If you're not pleased with the results of the repainting, I would stress to them that you're not happy and get the factory rep you spoke with on the phone at the dealership. It makes no sense that they can't color match your bumpers to your body paint by repainting them...or at least get it close.
I would also demand a quality loaner and not some $15,000 Buick Century loaner car. They have to have a TL demo or 2nd Gen used TL you could use while they work your situation out.
Tripp11, out.

Any reputable body shop should be able to paint the bumpers to match. They do it all the time. It sounds like the bumpers on your car were not properly prepared before painting. A couple of body shops told me, when I wa thinking of painting my 96TL bumper, that when the bumpers are made, they need to cure for a period of time, and then they need to be cleaned well to get rid of any residue from the molding process.
Tell them if they can't do it right, you want to take it somewhere that can. Check with people you know about body shops in the area, or get recommendations from trim places, insurance companies, etc.

there is a flew agent that is mexed into the paint for the bumpers as well which can cause the yellowing. there is a 2 step process for any of the pearl color paints in order to achieve that look. if they tried to skip that process and just mix and spray once then it will cause the yellowing as well. ask them whether they would consider letting you take the bumper to another shop and have them do it and get re-embursed. its a long shot because they will be shelling out more dough at another shop that they do not have a contract with. a good shop can match any paint any color.
Good to hear guys...I thought I was doomed, but I think I may go to other body shops on my own, get a price, demand a check from Acura, and get them painted on my own. The body shop that the car is at right now is owned/run by the dealer group I bought my car from which gives me doubts as to how hard they are working for me.
As for the loaner can situation some of you addressed...in the last 10 days I have been in three Enterprise cars (TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, and Impala) and two loaners (RSX and now, TSX). Really miss the TL.
