picking up tl tommorow!

Im pretty excited on my new acquisition of the TL. This will be my first new car and I was torn between the accord v6 black on black 6m v6 and the tl. For the 5500 difference, I felt the TL was the better choice. My dealer located the car i wanted blue pearl w quartz w/o navi but said they have to tack on an extra 333 cause it comes equiped witht the hp tires. This price has got to be wrong as acura.com states the base model with the hp tires is only an additional 200...I guess the negotiations will be fun tommorow. I am adding the wheel locks and trunk tray...still undecided on the guards or body molding haven't seen any tl with the moldings..

I will be driving the tl over 200 miles and would like to know as a brand new car are there any suggestions as to speed restrictions and what not upon breaking in this car? Also i live in florida and looking to tint this car and the dealer said it was tricky any suggestions?
Any input would be greatly appreciated....Hope to chat with all you in the near future...

Me Too!

I'm picking up my TL tomorrow in Ft. Wayne, IN. It's about 110 miles back home. Mine is a White Diamond Pearl/Quartz 6MT with Navi. I've been waiting over three months for my car as the dealer couldn't locate any to trade and they had to build it for me. Just like the old days. I made the full commitment and also ordered the A-SPEC package. I'm glad I waited to buy my car and had the ebenfit of reading many reviews and postings for A-SPEC cars after the kit became available. Your question about cautions during the early mileage period is one that prompts many responses, but I havene't heard anything consistent from Acura except this -- avoid jackrabbit "full throttle" starts for the first 1,000 miles. I'm trading in my 2001 CL 3.2 Type S and drove it pretty hard right out of the box, but never suffered any engine or drivetrain issues. I will NOT be doing that with my TL. Heck, this car looks fast just sitting still. I'll approach it like sipping a good wine before taking a big gulp. Enjoy you TL. What a perfect choice for your first new car. Down in FLorida you'll get to drive it year-round. Up here in Michigan, I park it November-April. The list price of $200 for the All-Weather Tires is on the sticker. Don't pay a penny more. Acura will contact you about the purchase and you'll have a chance to let the factory know how the dealer handled your transaction and delivery. Dealers go out of their way to make sure you're happy. This will be my 4th Acura purchase and I know the dealers are very concerned about how you grade them. I'm sure they'll come around. The trunk liner is a very nice extra, wheel locks are smart, but I'd hold off on the splash guards. I have them on my CL (Red) and never liked them. You can always add them later as they are a simple dealer add on or do it yourself. I, too, have never seen a CL or TL with the dooe mouldings. Yecch! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Questions... Ed Sack...

Hey man i noticed that you're receiving your TL within the day also. And i also noticed that you traded in your 2001 Acura 3.2 CL. I can't remember if it was a Type S or not. Anyway i'm trying to get some info. from you. I will also be doing the same thing as far as trading in my 2001 Ac. 3.2 CL TypeS. And i just wanted to know how much they gave you for a trade-in and if you still owed on your car while making the trade and how many miles you had on it. Also if they came down off the price for you any on the new TL. If you would let me know this i would greatly apprecitate it. I just want to make sure i'm not going to be getting ripped off. And i understand that since you're in another state then that may effect it somewhat. Again thanks

2001 3.2 CL Type S Navi Trade-In Info

I traded in my 2001 3.2 CL Type S Navi for $16,500. That was 51% of what I originally paid. I was very pleased. Just turned 34,000 miles and it was exactly 48 months since my delivery. I paid cash for my CL and owed nothing. The car was in mint condition and was never out in the snow or ice (Michigan car). My new TL was ordered and I waited 100 days. 6MT Navi with A-SPEC. I didn't negotiate my price. Paid full list for the base car, but the dealer did my A-SPEC upgrade very reasonably. I have 400 miles in the first 24 hours and couldn't be happier.

RE: Ed..

Ok thanks a lot. We basically have the same car and everything. I have like 33000 miles on mine. But anyway when i went there to see how much they would give me for a trade they said like 13,7...something And i was like you gotta be kidding me. So how can that happen? I do still owe on the car, it'll be a year that i've had it this month (July) but i have to get rid of it b/c i need the space. So what would be a good offer to tell them what i want for my trade? Or do you think they would take it off the price of the TL? I mean mine is in good condition as well. Let me know

I think it's always a good idea to take your trade-in car to CarMax (or some similar company) to get a price that they will buy your car at....at least this gives you a baseline from where to start when discussing trade-in with the Acura dealership.

agd, who's your dealer? I bought mine from Ferman back in March. If you aren't dealing with them you may want to try them before you take the plunge. If you are buying from Ferman, who's your salesperson? I would definately get an explanation as to why they are charging 333 vs. 200. BTW, in regards to tint, it wasn't tricky at all. I had a local shop in Lakeland do mine to FL max specs with Llumar Titanium - no felt, and am very pleased with the results. FWIW

Couple of things may be involved with your lower trade-in. My car is original owner. You say you have a 2001, but have only owned it for a year. Did you buy yours used? Car buyers now ask for lineage on the vehicles they're considering. Just a thought. I also received a trade-in price from another dealer last November that was $11,000. I'm not kidding. This is a dealer from whom I'd purchased several cars and had been their customer for nearly 15 years ()although they had gone through an ownership change). I told them they'd lost my business forever by insulting me with such a low trade. I now drive over twice the distance (129 miles, to be exact) to my new dealer. Anyhow, the new dealer knew about my mistreatment and was hustling to get my business. I was also ordering their first A-SPEC and they knew they had a big sale coming. I agree with the other poster that you should get it appraised at at least one other dealer (other than Acura) plus another Acura delaer, if possible. Since my trade-in value went up 59% at the second dealer -- even though it was four months later -- there can be a substantial value to making the dealers work for your business. They know you're buying an Acura, so it's not like you can threaten to buy a Beemer! Good luck!

I went to Fermans and spoke with Bill i believe, really good knowledgable salesman. The sale mgr even introduced himself and i was like lets cut to the chase what can we do here and he initially said 32,500 for a no navi and manual but would have to locate a car. I loved the car during the test drive but had to compare it the accood coupe 6sp v6 and it was so much more car that my decision was quite easy at this point. My father usto work with the sales manager over in Miami Acura so she and I did business over the phone and she offered me the car for 31250 + dealer +t,t,t. She through in the wheel locks, trunk tray and splash guards. There were only two abyss blue with stick available in florida and she had located one nearby. I did not want the hp tires as i heard they only last for 18000 miles? but she did not want to switch em out. I questioned the $333 based on the sticker of only $200 and she said she was splittin the delivery charge with me so i had to pay the $133...difference...She was a tough cookie in the business for like 16 yrs and was like if u dont wanna i'll locate another without the tires but i already knew it would take months and i didnt wanna wait so i made the deal and also she was able to get me 3.9% financing with a secured loan. My biggest concern is gettin dinged now in the parking lots but the side moldings look so bad...maybe i should buy some boat bumpers and use those instead ? I will be tinting my windows tommorow. Did you go 35% all around?

Im not sure to get 35% in the fronts and 20% in the back and rear seating would the contrast look bad?

lemme know...

Did you already purchase your car from Ferman? I attempted to purchase mine from there and they would not deal but maybe $500 or so off $32,500, and that was with my Credit Union guy. I ended up going to Fountain Acura in Orlando where they were more than happier to come down on the price. I didin't even have to haggle and I was very pleased with the service etc. You should go though the internet sales department. If you decide to check out Foutain, talk to John Pate in the internet sales department.

As far as TL break in in concerned, the manual says to avoid full throttle starts for the first 600 miles, brakes are 200 miles. The salesman at my dealer told me to not worry about all that and simply to not exceed 75MPH and do not use the cruise for the first 850. I am trying to do both, but the full throttle start thing is kind of hard to avoid, *L*. I keep it within 4k RPM.

One other thing, Acura dealers receive cars based on the rating you give them.

ensley...

I already purchased my car at miami acura cause my dad knows the sales manager this past week. She gave me a decent price but more importantly had the 6spd in blue i desired. I honestly did not think Ferman was going to budge below the price of 32500. which did not include dealer fee and extras anyways.
What did you pay for your car if you don't mind me asking? I paid 32000 including hp tires wheel locks trunk tray and splash guards and dealer fee.

I guess the point is everyone on the board paid all different pricing but with only 2 blue sticks in florida available and others months away i wasnt going to squirm over 500 or so bucks anyways...I wanted this car this week and have no regrets.

Can you recommend which acura dealer you'll be servicing your car with? Fermans or Crown Acura in Clearwater? Which is better? Heard anything?

I got mine for about 31,700 w/o HP tires, wheel locks, all season mats, dealer fee etc. I will probably use Ferman since they are closer. Haven't heard anything about either. The folks at Ferman seemed pretty nice. Only have 669 miles on the car, so it should be a while before its first service. Your lucky to get your car so quick, mine took 10 weeks to arrive, but it was worth the wait. SSM/Ebony 6MT.

agd, Ferman gave me a great deal at $31,500 on an AT, non-nav. They threw in the protection package also. I haven't had to deal with their service department yet as the car has been near perfect, but have heard good things about them. For the tint, I have the 35/20 with the lighter on the front and the contrast isn't bad at all. Stick with the maximum the state allows or you might risk inadvertant pull-overs.
