Paint problems, anyone else?
About 3 weeks ago I had my front bumper repainted (Anthracite) because there were 2 spots where the paint had bubbled up and another where the clear coat had flaked off. The body shop did a good job other than leaving some dust behind in the grooves. Good thing is the colors matched very well.
TODAY, I decided to wax the rest of the car that had not been recently painted so the entire car would be as glossy as the newly painted bumper. I stumbed on a spot where the rear bumper is rubbing against the driver slide tail light and has worn the paint off - about an inch wide. Additionally during the waxing process I found SEVERAL places where there is trash in the paint albeit small specks but trash nonetheless. Also, there is a run where the bumper meets the drivers rear quarter panel and a (get this) palm print or something that looks like one above the driver side rear tire. In short my paint is screwed up and I am just realizing to what extent at 7.6k miles.
I have an appt. at the dealer on Thurs. to fix a number of rattles and sagging headliner so I will bring all of this up then. I'm not a hot head but my poor car has spent as much time in the dealers hands with vibrations, rattles, paint, etc. as it has mine and I still have to address the same rattles and headliner issue that was supposedly fixed 2 weeks ago and potentially (most definitely) more painting. This is nuts but I do love my car which is why it is so frustrating to me. Anyone else dealing with paint problems?????????

I'm lucky my bumpers are having the same/very similar color as the body of my 04TL.
But I have another issue, 04TL has very thin paint finish. Without proper protection or coating, the engine hood would show up tons of chips and digs very soon.

I noticed a spot on my front bumper near the headlight where the plastic meets the metal fender where the paint is wrinkled on the bumper. I have some touchup on order and may try to fix it myself before it gets worse. I also noticed that the edges of the bumpers in the wheel wells have run - like paint buildup and some bubbles. The paint on my 02 TL was perfect so I'm disappointed that Acura has forgotten how to paint a bumper.

The most pressure I've used is Mr Clean Carwash. It looks more like the paint on the bumper was not fully cured before they mounted it to the rest of the car and where there was pressure - the paint flowed on the bumper. I'm not so concerned with the flaw - I just don't want the paint to come off after a year and Acura won't want to cover it.
different color paint on rear bumper
I think my rear bumper was repainted prior to delivery and your thread kind of explains it. About a week after I took delivery, a friend pointed out the obvious difference in the color of the rear bumper to the rest of the car. It is a shade off. I thought I could live wity it but I will bring it up when I bring it back to the dealer for the rattles.

My satin silver metallic is HORRENDOUS... my white diamond pearl on my '02 TL-S was perfect.. took so many beatings w/ dirt and road debris and never found one major chip in the bumper..
i have little FLAKES of paint that peeled off about 1mmx1mm where the pebbles hit the bumper.. it's ridiculous.

The only paint flaws i have found to date is a tiny spot with dust stuck under the clearcoat on the driver's door.....i did find a tiny paint chip on the passenger door and another at the c-pillar(these i believe were caused by a stone and someone who was careless when PDI/detailing my TL.
Well you have to remember people this car was not assembled in Japan. Its made in th USA. If you look at the TSX and compare the two there is a big difference in quality. Dont get me wrong I love my TL but they have to up the quality issues. Look at Lexus perfect.
I have TONS of F.O.D (foreign object debri) under the paint in my door jamb. It almost feels like metal shavings or something got painted over, as if the body wasnt prepped properly. The same specs are in various, but not as concentrated places all over the car. Also, when I got the car, there was a big hazy patch in the middle of the hood, which I cured with Zaino
I got the my anthracite TL back from the dealer last week after they repainted the front bumper cover. The paint had peeled back on the edges where the cover met the fender. It looks great at this point, actually seems to have a little more depth and luster than the factory job. Hey, I ran across a Motor Trend June '04 issue and was looking at the braking stats.............holy crap. Is the braking distance for the 6MT a typo, it shows a 60-0 of 141!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What? The automatic stops at 128? What the hell are the 4 piston Brembos doing up there? Virtually every BMW, Audi, Honda, Infiniti and Jaguar stop well below that? Does anyone have a clue about this?
Mine too........
'04 silver TL. I too have paint peeling on the front bumper. Dealership acknowledged they've seen 'some' of this. I'm able to bring it in for inspection and repaint. I'm only fearful now the front bumper would NOT match the rest of the car. I've never seen a partial painting match the entire car. Even 6 months on the road will change the paint color.
