Our MID is not the pedometer, it fairly calculates by your driving conditions and environmental factors. It's not meant to be the super precise computer, but it appropriately reckons in those inputs.

If you drive a lot in city, such as NYC, bumpy slowly traffic with stop & go, it's not the surprised. If you live somewhere countrysides or less urbanization like NYC, you may get better mileage before "Due" message shows up. Also, if you have the big foot, you may get less mileage, too.

This topic has been bringing up numerous times, maybe you could check them out.

Don't sweat it. As I understand it, it depends more on how you drive the car than the physical miles on it. If you drive on hills and/or at high RPM's I'd think that the oil would expire before someone who was driving on flat roads in a non-sporting fashion.

Agreed. My service was due around 4800 miles because I do about 60% city driving and 40% highway. Even my highway travel though is usually clogged with traffic (gotta love NY). You should be fine if your driving includes a lot of short trips, "spirited" driving, etc.

Worried? I would be joyous! This MID is done to a minimum standard of maintenance, not to best practices. Acura and many others mfr's use these to lower their TCO numbers, or as a selling point to the technically ignorant - I mean that literally, not as a slam.

I am following their interval only for the first oil change, since Honda uses a special add pack in their engine oils that they are adamant about retaining for at least 3750 miles; but I will not go one mile over 5K - after all, since I would not let anyone do any lubricant service on my cars, I can determine when the oil life monitor said "it's time".

After that, I will switch to Lubrication Engineer's 8130 10w30 or perhaps Motorcraft's 5w20. Based on my study, they are two of the best things out there. Both can easily go 5-7.5k with no anxiety at all on my part.

Then there are those lousy Canadian oil filters - tiny, and many I examined on my 2002 TL-S were made by Fram, with the cheapest construction imaginable. I have yet to cut one open of the 4 I bought for my 2004 - I certainly will do so shortly.

By comparison, Honda dumped the cheap Canadians and developed a special filter for the S2000 - those are made to high quality standards (metal end caps, silicone rubber anti-drainback valves, high quality glass fiber/paper filter medium).
