not for one fill up.

when you run that gas down, fill it up with premium and you're good to go.

It's going to blow up in to a giazillion pieces!

Joking aside one tank isn't going to cause any long term damage. I'd suggest try filling up the rest of the tank with premium to help raise the octane a bit and prevent detonation. You'll notice your MPG going down a bit because of the 87 octane gas.

I'd suggest to your sister to read the warning on the fuel door next time and not to be cheap with their siblings car!

Priceless!

OP, the only bad thing that will happen is that you'll agonize over the tank of gas until the fuel is gone....

Lol - Of all my forums, AZ is probably one of the most mature, polite, classy ones. Not all the time, just generally speaking. It's nice to see that, despite that, there's always room for the leg-humpers (guilty as charged).

No worries, OP. The engine will run a little inefficiently to compensate, but chances of damage are practically zero. Get down to half a tank, see if you can find some place with 93 octane and top it off. And I'd be more happy having a sister thoughtful enough to put gas in it, especially at today's prices.

Your not even going to get pre-detonation, the ECU will just retard the spark a bit to prevent it.

Also, be a little easier on the car while its running the 87 octane just to be sure. If you normally like to floor it a lot just drive like a grandma this one tank that way you dont put the engine in any position where damage could occur. Oh and thank your sister for putting the wrong fuel in to ;-)

My sister pumps 89 octane in her 2G TL-S. Is that bad?

This is another reason NO ONE is allowed to borrow my car!
And in my case, it helps that I have a 6MT since few prople can drive a stick.

My aunt pumps 87 into her '03 TL. Regardless of how many times I try to explain to her that her fuel cost per mile ends up about the same as if she put premium in, she still sticks to "I've Had No Problems Putting Regular In".

Add some octane booster if you're really worried about it. You'll be fine regardless.

I run 87oct in mine quite often. Doesn't affect mileage one bit! Car runs no different. Catalytic converter might be a tad mad at me though.....

I knew from the title of this thread that something good wouldn't come of it.

Make sure you tell everyone who borrows your car to put the proper fuel in next time.

The ecu will just retard the timing so the engine won't blow. You will lose performance but should be ok.

fill up with 93 once you get to half tank but until you reach that point drive like a grandma!

this is why no chick drives my car: not my mom, sis or girl!

the computer will compensate for it ... one tank no probs, but make sure when u hit the half mark to fill it with 93octane from shell or texaco and u will in effect have 91 octane gas running through ur fuel lines

It's not as bad as putting it in a 3G TL since the 2G TL-S has a slightly lower compression ratio so it's going to be less prone to detonation with lower octane fuel

i got my 3G tl used and much to my dismay the previous owner had only been fillin it up with regular, but ever since then i've been fillin it up with premium so based on my experience you should be fine
based on the title i was expecting worse a tank of regular is the least of your worries in that situation lol

the best thing do to in that case is run a bottle of Redline SI-1 Fuel cleaner through the gas to clean up a bit of the junk that's left over from regular since it doesn't burn as cleanly as premium fuel.
