Oil story :-(

It was time to do an oil change, got everything ready to do what was suppose to be a 15 minute job since where I live they do not permit any mechanical work on cars.

My wife is already rushing me so I put the oil bucket (the one with the plug in the middle) take the bolt out and boom nice oil flowing until I realized the oil is not going down. So I put my finger to stop the oil, shiiit the car is not jacked up all the way; wife is inside, ok wait my finger is burning quick the middle finger ahhh its still burning. Shoot I had to go for the plug BAM hot oil pouring on the back of my hand I tried it was to hot so guess what ALL THE OIL ON THE FLOOR.

my two fingers and the back of my hand is burnt it stings real bad.

Sorry, I had to. So what do you mean the oil wasn't coming down? It wasn't flowing into the bucket?

that sucks, and I'd go down and get cleaning if I were you. If management finds a giant pool of oil under your car they won't be happy.

didnt understand what "the oil wasnt going down" meant either. Liked the fact that you thought switching fingers would make it stop burning though

I think he forgot to remove the plug from the oil catcher-thiingy-majigger (W/e) and blocked the oil with his fingers so he could get the oil catcher plug removed.

I'm too tired to think right now.

It happens to the best of us.

I had something similar happen one time, I was doing an oil change after I had the oil changed at (shall remain nameless). I noticed the oil filter was smaller than usual and right before it was all the way out I was distracted by some noise around me and SPLASH there went the filter into the pan and splashed oil all over my driveway and my face.

I feel ya OP hope you don't get into to much shit, especially with the lady

I'm glad the burnt finger taught you how to use run-on sentences.

On the lighter note, glad everything is OK.

One more reason to wrap a 1-gallon heavy duty ZipLock freezer bag completely around and over the filter and pickup arm when you are removing the old filter.

sucks to hear man, but crap like this tends to happen to everyone once in a while, while working on their car.

Happened to me not that long ago. I was changing the fluid in the GF's Murano and my container had a hole in it. I reached in the scalding oil to get the plug and it took all the will power I had to snatch it out because I couldn't find it at first. I threw it on the driveway and wiped my hand with a towel and then put the plug back in. This was a friend's house with new decorative brick around the flower beds. I splashed the brick with dirty oil and luckily a friend's GN had leaked nasty oil down the driveway earlier so it was easy to cover up.

5 cans of Brakleen later at $3.50 each I was almost done. What really sucked is I was broke but had the oil and filter laying around so I decided to do a "free" oil change not knowing it was going to cost over $15.

I recently started the TL for 5 seconds with no oil in it. And many years ago I did the exact same thing and left the plug in the drain pan and overflowed it all over the driveway.

What I like most about some of the sealed drain pans is if you carry it while it's almost full with the center plug out, it has a way of squirting oil in your face as you carry it.

I think it was Clint Eastwood that once said...."A man's got to know his limitations." This would probably apply here.

Now that I know you're ok... this just reminds me of:

From the movie, "Magnum Force", the second in the Dirty Harry series.

Ah....drunk posting! We've all done that at some point too....trust me!
And no....not really a major at all. It happens...you have every right to post about your personal experiences...thats what makes a site fun and interesting for the most part.
