Oil filter recommendation?

I have a 2006 TL and have been using Mobil 1 5-20 oil and standard Acura (Honda) filter since the first oil change. I've read that the lastest Honda filter (A02) is not a great choice and poorly made. I like to provide quality care for my car so I'm looking at the Honda S2000, Mobil 1, Napa Gold, and Purolator Pure One oil filters. All have good ratings from what I can find in the internet, though I heard that the Pure One may have flow restriction concerns. All have been reported to have good filtering ability. Is there any reson to choose one over the other, or should I just shop price since all are "premium" and more than capable enough for normal driving. I change oil & filter according to MID at about 7000 miles. Thanks for the help. This forum is great.

I bought 3 K&N oil filters to use with my Pennzoil Platinum oil changes (every 10K), before I decided to go completely Amsoil oil and filter for that 1 yr/25K interval. So I never got to use them as I changed my mind. They are excellent filters! I have them on sale in the BM right now:

There's no need to spend more than $10 on an oil filter. I used to use K&N's which are good filters, but I've found the Mobil1 and Bosch oil filters last just as long. I'd also recommend the wider larger ones, Mobil1 M104, K&N HP1004.

In fact, the Bosch seems to be made just as well as the Mobil1 and can be had for about 5 or 6 $.

The Bosch filter # is 3323.

I'm probably prejudiced, as I sell MOBIL product, but the MOB1 filters are excellent, though a bit pricey at ~9.50/ea. The PUR ONE is a very good alternative for about half the price. It appears to have comparable flow-through and filter area, though the MOB1 is better in both specs. and seems more robust, although in 850K miles of driving, I've never had an oil filter fail.

I used FRAM until seeing the errors of my ways. You do get what you pay for in filters.

If you're one of those who believes that nothing's any good unless it's "shiny, thick or heavy" no question; the MOB1 is all those things.

I use the Mobil 1-104 which is the Honds S-2000 filter. Its bigger then the Acura filter but has the same size gasket & fits with no contact issues.

Use the S-2000 filter for the reasons others have pointed out. Honda part #15400-PCX-004

They can be had for $6-8 online depending on how many you purchase + shipping of course. Local Honda dealers around here want $11-12 for these. What a rip-off!

$6.84-$7.78 depending on how many you buy + shipping from HandA
$6.67 each + $9 handling + shipping from
Honda Parts Unlimited

Anyone else know of good online stores that sell the 15400-pcx-004 ?

..you got your owner's manual handy? Fluid capacities are usually in the back. You can also look it up in the index :p

Out of my 2008 OM:

Somewhere in here are links to a pdf version of the Owner's Manual for most model year Acura car/trucks. Maybe if you're nice someone will post the link (I can't find it at the moment).

Use the s2k filters! Fits like a charm!

SKU: 15400-PCX-004

Make sure you get the right model, made by Filtech and not Honeywell..

I got my S2000 15400-PCX-004 from HandA for ~$7.45 each, shipped. I bought the "six pack". Shipped the same day as the order.

Been running it for ~3,000 problem free miles. Nearly identical in size the original TL/TL-S 15400-PLM-A01 filter.

Out of my 2008 OM:

If you use the S-2000 filter it will run closer to 5 quarts. Put in 4.5, run it then let it sit a bit before you check the dipstick. Top it up as necessary but be careful not to overfill it.

All of your selections are fine. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

What's wrong with FRAM? I've been using it since the day I learned how to change my own car oil. Anyone have problems trying to remove the oil filter on the first oil change? I couldn't remove it and it was the same situation with my little bother's 07 TSX. Is it a new car thing or I'm just a sissy bitch? :ghey:

@lucastypes - http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfi...ilfilters.html

If you don't do it yourself, you're liable to need to plunge a screw driver through the filter and turn it to remove the filter. This happened on my old Dodge pickup when I had the water pump replaced. They changed the oil and one of those gorillas must have used an oil filter wrench to tighten it because I literally had to impale it with a screw driver to remove the thing. H-A-N-D T-I-G-H-T is all that pressure that's required. Snug, then an additional 3/4 turn!

Morons.

WOW, never knew that about FRAM. I'm going to have to try the S2000 filter next time. I ended up taking my car to Jiffy Lube to loosen up the oil filter. Thanks for the info darksky

Fram filters are POORLY made. BITOG web site shows cut apart photos of all leading filters and the Fram is terrible. Actually made with cardboard components. Unreal.

And that goes for their pricier non-orange Tough Guard and Extended Guard filters too.

I just put on a M-110. Seems very close in size to the OEM filter. The book at Autozone said the M-110 was the one to get for my '07 TL-S.

If you go back and look again, that same book says M-104 for 2004 which still fits and takes the same filter as '05/6/7/8. They just forget to re-list it to the 110. I still think larger is better when it comes to oil filters.

Man the best oil & filter combination is the Amsoil EA013 filter and their Signature Series 0W-30 synth oil. Hands down! Google it!
