Not happy with car...

So I got my car like 3 or 4 months ago or something and so far I just don't have that "feeling" towards it. Ya know the feeling you get when you wake up in the morning and all you want to do is go out and drive the car all day (I think all of you guys should know the feeling im talking about). Well I just don't have it, and never did. I thought maybe if I started to do some stuff to it I would get the feeling... so I put new lights in, tinted the windows, debadged the trunk, and had the chrome strip on the trunk color matched to the car (I despise chrome). Granted this is not much at all, but I didn't want to bang out like 4-5K on suspension, rims, and maybe exhaust just to see if I started to love the car. I figured the little things might get me to start loving the car, and then I would spend money on the big mods. Anyway, so far... nothing. I mean it's so bad that I don't even give a shit if it's washed or not, and it's NBP!! I can't remember the last time I washed the rims, and I probably washed the car 3 or 4 weeks ago. When I had my Mazda I washed it every week, and detailed the shit out of it every 2 weeks. That was when I would wake up at like 8 on a Saturday just to work on it or clean it. I LOVED that car (see sig). Did the 6 compare to the TL-S? Not at all. But the 6 was the car for me.

Now don't get me wrong, I am NOT bashing the TL-S by any means. It's a fantastic car for the money - great performance, great style/looks, it's just all around a great car. And I know if I would do the mods I planned on doing to it that it would look fucking ridiculous. But it's just not the car for me.

So what do you guys think I should do??? Obviously im kinda leaning towards trading it in, so what cars do you think compare to the TL-S in all categories? Price, performance, mileage, etc. I'm not even looking for a new car, probably a used 07 or 08, maybe even an 06 depending on condition. So help me out AZiners!!

You gotta do whatever makes you happy, but you're going to get hosed on depreciation because your car is so new. I know what you mean about just not having the feeling, but the feeling is going to be very expensive to buy. If you could stand to hold on to it for a couple of years, you'd make out better in the $$ department, but this decision sounds like it's emotional and not financial. Good luck with whatever you do.

He may not get hosed as bad as you would think (but he's still gonna get hosed). Type S cars are a little rare here in the North East so that should help with the trade value. In reality though anytime you try to trade in a car that you have been in for 3 months, it's gonna hurt a little.

Ummm if this was a German car forum I think the phrase you would be searching for is "it lacks soul" I know it does everything very well or excellant but its more of an appliance in your eyes more so than anything else.

Technically my type-s is better than the VW I gave up for it in every way.

TL is faster stock than my VW was.
Better accomidations and features.
Will probably break down less.

But I still miss my VW. That car had soul. This TL of mine is well. Just what I use to go from point A to point B with the least amount of fuss. Honestly I am thinking about giving up the tl to my girlfriend and putting myself back into a VW or Audi. Even though it will cost more up front than an Acura and will most likely depreciate more than an Acura. The difference in price is starting not to look like enough to keep me with Acura.

I hope the new M5's look better than the older one. The old ones headlights remind me of Dame Edna.

It must be nice to be able to toss around thousands of dollars on a whim because your car doesn't give you wood. Especially at only 21 years old.

Cry me a damn river. The problem is with you, not the car.

^^ haha

Didn't we just have another thread about someone griping about how they didn't like their TL-S? It would be tough for me to justify spending 35k+ on a car that I wasn't really sure about. If you want to dump it that's all on you, whatever makes you happy. Lord knows I've wasted tens of thousands myself on cars I didn't keep that long either... maybe I'm just getting older and wiser :P Enjoy what you have and feel very fortunate that you can afford a car that a lot of grown, married individuals can't even afford. You should squirrel that money away that's burning a hole in your pocket and save for something you're REALLY going to like in a couple of years

Sorry to hear that CF21! Fortunately I love my car but I know what you mean. My vote is for a trade in. If you don't like it to the point where you don't even wash it for a month AND you're a car guy, I would trade it in for something you really want. If I was looking today, the G35 would be near the top of my list.

BTW, what kind of Mazda did you have before?

Yeah I know im gonna lose some money, but hopefully it won't be that much. If it is that much, then i'm just gonna keep it. I mean I really do like the car, I just don't get the same feeling I did when I had my Mazda. There aren't really any cars out right now that catch my eye anyway, the only one i'd really consider is the IS350.

TL929 - I've thought about that, but my brother might be getting the new STI so.

DJSlim - I gladly would if you were in the NE area.

apnorm - I had a Mazda 6, link to it in my sig.

Wow you are a fucking idiot. NO FUCKING SHIT the problem is with me, did I not clearly state that?? How come everyone else understood that it was me and not the car, but you didn't? Imbecile.

Dude, when you were test driving cars didnt the TLS make you excited and want to buy it!!??

When i get extensive test driving in, I know I will "Know" which sedan is right for me...You HAVE TO have that exciting feeling where you drive your car for the lamest excuse! LOL!!

I remember when I bought my 98 TRansAM, that first few weeks I would lay in bed, and I would just think of the awesome , sleek car sitting in my garage..Id fuking get up and go for a cruise around town at 12-1 am ! hahaha..it was the best..

I want that feeling again..Im starting to read alot of unhappy owners in here and its concering me..

I owned now a 2000 accord V6 coupe for 5 years..if i was able to live with this car for 5 years I know a TLS will keep me satisfied and happy well OVER 5 years..lol..

maybe you have depression?

i'm not sure how the 6 does it for you, but the Type-S doesn't? i understand the feeling that you are talking about, but don't understand why it is not applied in this situation.

i'm sure if you had a 6MT, you'd probably feel different, especially being so young.

whatever your choice, hope you make the one that makes you satisfied.

Beautiful Mazda.

Look into the GTO, in my mind, it looks a lot like your old Mazda.

I can say I dont like the TL as much as my old VW, but at least the TL runs when I want it to.
I also liked the old Jaguar I had, which was also very reliable for its age.
The TL lacks something, but is a very good car, it looks sharp to me, has been trouble free, gets 34 mpg on the hiway at 70 mpg, is quiet and smooth.

Even the old RAV 4 is more fun to drive, its easy to drive, while the 6mt takes some thought, so distracts me a little.
The TL has more than enough power, the rav you drive like a race car just to keep up with traffic, which is fun.

There is a time to be a car slave, washing, waxing, tinkering, but sometimes its a nice change to have something you just use.

When you have something you REALLY like, its bound to be stolen, crashed, or broken....

Have you tried a motorcycle? It's great fun...I think that's what you're missing when you bought the TL-S. This, IMO, is a mature car. It can be very enthusiastic(as you can see from many of our members), but mature nonetheless. Maturity sometimes kills that little kid feeling everybody craves, and sometimes you have to get something else to accomadate for that lack of enjoyment. Try a motorcycle, a nice 250 CC Kawasaki Ninja runs 2,000 used. You can get a nice 600 / 500 for around 5,000 used.

Good luck finding the right vehicle.

I'm confused about why this topic was started? If you don't like your car, then why not just buy a different one? Why bother everyone here about it? I mean, what kind of response were you expecting from us?

Try to get a RWD car. It should give you the thrills. For those that are bashing the OP, let him do what he wants. If he says he doesn't like the car, there's no reason to make him look like an asshole. The guy could be the son of a CEO or he could probably own his own company.

I dunno.... I don't exactly feel that way about my car either..... but I would not say I am not happy with it. It's an appliance just as Don eloquently posted.

I won't get rid of it though because:

1. Its a great looking car and very practical. Still sporty but also sophisticated. Very grown up car
2. Value wise it is hard to beat
3. I have a 100K Mile Acura Warranty...... I intend to drive it to that!
4. It does the sport luxury thing pretty well

I will buy my fun car soon enough. I got rid of my Camaro SS before I bought the TL because someone offered me something that I could not refuse (basically pay the same price I paid for the car 2 years earlier..... even with 22k additional miles and some big maintenance items required). So I lost my fun toy to the TL....but I don't look back. Next fun car is going to be a Evo or another LSX based vehicle.

All of my vehicles are boring at this point:

1997 2WD Chevy 1500 Extended Cab Short Bed Step side (had this one 10 years )
2005 Scion tC
2007 Acura TL-S

Looks like you are kinda on the wrong site to find people that relate to you, sorry. This is a site for Acura enthusiasts.......Trust us, we don't get what you are talkin about.

There are other cars out there that definitely get me more excited than a TL, just can't afford them just yet......M3, M5, 911, ZR1, GT-R....not to mention any Italian car. If you can afford one of those you are lucky.

If not, at least look into a used S4, BMW 3/5/M. I have a thing for German cars, if that dosen't help you I don't know what will.....you're just not a car-guy then. Good luck.

For me, that feeling came after modding my car.

I would park it somewhere and when walking up to it I just keep staring saying "damn thats a nice car."

Get an RS4 that will get you back to where you need to be. They run about twice that of an TL-S though. But if you have the means I would highly recommend it since it compares well to cars over 100K

Easy now. My first bike was a 250! I did outgrow that pretty quickly but was nice as my first bike.

I agree with this sentiment. Either you bought the car on impulse or you have a somewhat immature expectation of what a car should represent. It sounds like you want to be infatuated with your car but aren't. If you have the money to burn trade it in. However, if it's a decent ride, looks good, and a bang for the buck suck it up.

I know exactly what you are saying. I just told my wife that the tl-s we just bought has no soul compared to our evo. When I drive the evo I have a grin from ear to ear. When I drive the tl-s I have no such feelings. However for me the tl-s was a car to get my small 3 children and wife to dinner, shopping, the beach etc... with her having a gas guzzling suv and me an evo being to small for our family the tl-s fits the role perfectly. As such it is a great car and I enjoy it but it has yet to make me fall in love with it. I think if I had to get a similar car with a soul I would have to choose a 3 or 5 series bmw. At a cost of at least 10k more. I say sell it and get an evo or sti. Those cars love mods and for many have more soul then any other car out there. good luck. On a side note cars with soul usually come with some headaches.
