It gives it more to the paint, my 89 BMW was white but had red and blue specs in it. My 95 civic had gold metal flakes in the black panit that made it shine more.

They are not pure black it is just the way the light hits the metal flake, all of the panels are painted the same color.

My guess either a visual mistake or a painting flaw.

I don't claim to know Acura's painting system/method but I would assume all of their "pearl essence" paints are a 2 / 3 stage. IE regarding your question about the black - base coat is straight black, then a blue pearl coat within the first layer of clear, followed by maybe 2 more coats of clear.
Thats how I always performed my pearl jobs, though with about 4-5 coats of clear for hand sanding/polishing... My name and "orange peel" were never found in the same sentence...
