New style switchbacks!!!
New style switchbacks!!!
Has anyone noticed that Autolumination now has switchbacks that fit stock housings WITHOUT modification?
If anyone has the new style, how do you like them and how does the color compare to say an 85122+ (4500-5000K) light?
Thanks,
Brian

Yup I just noticed this yesterday. 3/4" instead of 1". That will clear the opening. I was about to mention this but I'm pissed because I had to mod my headlights to get mine to fit. Have at em guys.
SWITCHBACKS that finally FIT!!
The color on my switchback are kinda blue like a 10,000K color. I wish they were more 8000K or 6000kish to match better. I bet these new lights are closer.....
Somebody will have it on their car this week. Watch!!

I think they're 7443.

and yeah I think you're right..7443

Yup 7443.
No soldering to enlarge the opening. Just push in the bulb and twist in. You will have to put in load resistors as I've mentioned on my threads but no biggie at all.
The hard part all this time was trying to make them fit......now that's all gone. Looks like they are using SMT LEDs in them instead of the high-flux ones like on mine. That's their secret.
This sucks I was like one of the few with this, I had them since last summer. Now you clowns will all do them and they'll be all over the place.....like so what?? LOL!
All you who waited.....it paid off.

So I can just buy the a 7443 set and replace my OEM bulbs with them?

If you want them to blink white, just look at the page with all the 7443 bulbs.....take your pick. Choose white as your color. By the way, they are illegal, just thought you should know.
I see cops across intersections all the time at night. They ALL look at my car scratching their heads.....they're always confused.......TOO BAD!! My switchbacks are legal...

Yeah I know they're 'illegal' but my experience out here in CA is that they really don't care.
BTW are they bright? I just kinda stumbled upon this thread and was originally going to get the Sylvania Silverstars(?) or something like that. But if these are brighter... then hell... I'll just get these.

Now, what's the deal with switchbacks? They change color or something?

The law in most states says that you need parking or marker lights in the front that are white or amber, you need amber reflectors that can be seen from the front and side and you need a signal light that blinks amber and can be seen from the front and side. Look at any car on the road and they fulfill that requirement. The only ones that don't have been modded illegally.

Man I should get a comission from autolumination, I sound like I work for them. (mods, I really don't!)
^^^Front turn signals can be white or yellow; rear red or yellow. No laws regarding reflectors for passenger vehicles, only commercial trucks, bicycles, and motorcycles. From NC GS 20-125.1 regarding the annual safety inspection; directional signals will fail inspection if:
Parking lights can be white or yellow front, red rear.
As for the switchbacks, I guess I was looking for more of an explanation of what they do. It's hard to read what you don't type.
Signal lens color is other than red or amber on the rear and other than white or amber on the front.

The color match would certainly would be much closer in color to your angel eyes.
Hell I may go for a set. 2 of the 3 things I didn't like about them has now been fixed (ill fitment, and purple color).
Goddam it just gotta white led my side markers again... shit
Rock, did you white out your side markers? 3mm high flux? I did 2 sets of 5mm high flux and they blew out in a couple of months due to the resistors being over overdriven.
Whats your expereince been thus far?
Anyone else notice the "new" style also states they're 25% brighter than the old style (at the very bottom)?
These are looking better and better... Being the super mod dude I am, buy a set, mask off the led faces, and paint the rest of the housing chrome/silver... or black it out.
Being able to see that shitty PCB board through your nice cleared housing is the pits. The devil is in the details gents.

Kennedy, I found a link earlier that has a resistor calculator on it. You enter the parameters of your LEDs and they tell you want resistors to run. I'll look for it when I get home. That may be the key to adding 5mm HF leds to the side markers.

Seen it. Futzed with it. Lots of discussion on it. I'm done with messing with it.
If the 3mm work I'll do em, otherwise, they're stayin yellow.
I can't seem to get the OEM board reversed engineered. It seems to be two LEDs in series with 3 resistors in parallel. I've had 1 EE class... but I can't seem to make it work after changing it to what i though it should be...
Browse this thread, and feel free to correct my math.

But then again, the colormatch.......Hmmm. Maybe in a year I'll get over my pride!
The drawback with most of the SMTs I'm coming across is that yellow PCB color they are made of so you're right it's a little irritating detail you will see in the daytime. It'll be just a matter of time before they catch on and make them white, clear or chrome.
I didn't ever plan on doing the white sidemarkers but because I went all out it was obviously warranted. I went with the 3mm high flux from superbrightleds. I burnt the board on one side while soldering (as I've said before many times, I suck at soldering. I also burned my memory seat button board. Live and learn) but I bought another used one and got it done. I read about all the warnings but so far, so good. I didn't do 5mm so no resistor whatsoever. The replacement LEDs I used are identical to the stock ones. Intensity is identical to stock. I didn't care to make them any brighter. I would then have to mess around with the rear ones then.
I know you are going to get the switchbacks Kennedy. It will call you in your sleep! You'll love it compared to the boring amber. Your car will look killer man. Join the club!
ha ha... already ordered. Another $55 in LEDS. Hopefully I can resale the others.
Ya know what ya gotta do Rock...
You could sell yours as they are $500 I'm sure.
Buy a used set and start over.

Or you could keep them since you're perfectly satisfied with them and don't want to waste more money and since you JUST did them!
anyone know how the switchbacks would look on a non-cleared or blacked out headlight? i have a 08tls absolutely stock, the whole switchback idea would be cool, but not sure how it would look since there is still some amber in the headlight
anyone have a pic?
anyone have a pic?
c'mon sunny pics, pics!
playa, I think puttin the switchbacks inside the S-type headlights would be kinda cool. You can be the first! Half amber, half clear lens with a half amber, half white LED.......Nice!

Actually, in the TL-S, it would look nice, as th amber lens is not exposed to the bulb. The amber section is completely covered by the side of the turn signal reflector (the part I covered with Carbon Fiber). The rest is clear. The amber is purely a reflector.
If you put in the switchbacks, you'd see white running lights...
