New paint job on the TL?

Well I have a 04 blk 6 speed Tl and previous owner scratched it to hell so I was thinking about getting a paint job. At first I was just going to get it repainted oem black but now I was think about going flat black. Just wanted everyones 2 cents about it.

I think flat or matte black would look raw.

isnt there some type of special maintenance with flat/matte black? like you can't wash it or scrub it with certain things or have to clean bird shit immediately.

or is maintenance and keeping it clean just like regular car paint?

You know that's a good question, I'll have to look into that. I really hope I don't have to do anything special, I hate having bird shit on my car or anything for that matter. I'm going to take to my paint guy this weekend or the beginning of next week about this project and see what he says. I'll let u guys know.

why dont you get it professionally detailed first? will definitely make a huge difference.

also, dont go matte black. it looks awful on the 3G and most Acuras for that matter

It has been professionally detailed, I have scratches that can't get buffed out or even wet sanded.

I like the way it looks in tge pics. Does anyone know about the maintenance off this paint?

Flat black does not belong on our cars... sorry just my 2 cents. You cant buff flat black cars. You have to put a flattener in the clear to make it not shine. Its a paint in the ass to keep up and your resale value will be SHOT! I like the idea about getting it detailed, i bet that will make it 100x better. Again thats just my 2 cents.

Well u guys are probably right, I'm not worried about resale I'm going to keep this car. I already 133k on in not even worth selling anymore. I guess I'll get detailed and wet sand it, and repaint want needs repainted.

If it's done correctly, it can hold up for quite some time.

Well there are many factors that determine how long vinyl stays on a car (how it's put on, how well you maintain your car, etc). But I can't say how long it really lasts because I've personally never seen anyone leave it for too long. They put it on, and a couple months later they get tired of that look and take it off.

best part about vinyl is you can take it off!!!!! it would last awhile id say 2-4yrs but ask the experts at stickercity.com

Meh. Looks good on the bmw but not so much on the TL imho. I'm not a big fan of matte black but maybe vinyl is the way to go. Less cash and not as permanent. Looks like a shit ton of work to get off though.

Btw...... That chrome Audi is impressive. Here's a brief CNET write up on it for those curious.

^ Yes that's vinyl on the BMW.

I say you should do it. The worse thing that can happen is you don't like it, and it can easily be removed.

Sweet I'll check into that, even if I don't like it I'm sure I'll like it more than my
Current paint.

While I find it amazing what can be done with vinyl (I will be wrapping my grille soon in a high gloss black) I would never wrap my TL in a matte black nor would I paint it so. It looks too much like primer to me...There's a woman in my neighborhood who drives a matte black 911 Turbo and I cringe every time I see it...a nice high gloss black would much better suit it in my opinion, and I feel the same way about our cars. My wife pointed out that 911 recently and commented that it ruined the sexy look of the car, and I must agree. Matte finishes are getting played out HARD!!

Maybe I'm too military oriented, but the matte finish gives a car a stealth look/feel. I've seen the matte/stealth finish on a Lamborghini, which was pure sex. But the car is designed to have a stealth look anyway.

Uhhg so many options idk what to do... I like the vinly look but idk if I would like it enough to look at everyday. I guess it all depends on how much it will run me. If it's anything more than 700, I'm not going to risk it; I'll just repaint it nbp.

It's going to cost you more than $700 to have the whole car wrapped. Just get it professionally detailed and I can almost guarantee that the paint will look 100 times better.

I've read that NBP (if that's the color your thinking) is really a lot of work to
keep looking good. Sexy as Hell when maintained well though.

What about a new color idea....possibly infiniti met. black ?

There's a great how-to around here about specific care for that color code.
Almost bought a NBP TL. Love that color.

I had the car detailed two months ago, made some of the car look good but there's just to many scratches on it that are to deep.
