Arrow New Guy With Questions...

Hey guys, this is my first post here

I've always liked the 3rd Gen TL's and I've been literally ABOUT to buy one atleast 3 or 4 times now.. it's always been somethin that's stopped me. BUT, I'm back in the market for a car, and I'm thinkin about grabbin one finally..

I've been doin a lil research on em.. I wouldn't need all the bells an whistles, but the NAV is nice an if I don't get it, I'd get a double DIN set up eventually, and I'd really prefer a 6speed..

What's the biggest difference between the 3rd gen years?
Has anybody put any real power into these engines while still being DDable?
I'd love to throw a turbo on there, but I read a couple threads, and it's soundin like it'd be 2 expensive an way 2 much of a hassle :\

Has anybody tried this S/C kit out? http://store.excelerateperformance.c.../i-220516.aspx if so, how'd ya like it? Pro's/cons etc..

Is there a reliable way to tune the engines??

I have a couple TL's that I'm lookin at goin to check out.. but what's somethin good to look out for?

What do you not like about your TL? lol

and umm... ya, thats bout it for now

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/any-major-differences-05-08-tls-863038/

I asked a couple days ago and got some good responses aka go 07 or 08 if you can.

go for the 07-08 TL if you can because they give you more technology update versus older model but you said that MT is a must then you should go for 04-06 TL since they are easier to find than the 07-08 MT because in these year MT is exclusive for Type S model and they are rare as hell some of them even over price. About force induction SC give you decent gain and it can be take off easier than turbo kit, I think most MT TL with SC and exhaust system pump out 328 WHP on the dyno. Type S turbo put down 480 WHP but nobody know how good the tune really are since there are no piggy back ECU tunning for our TL on the market except for J&R ECU but the software still in the early stage of development so there are trials and errors to achieve the perfection tune. Regarding what I do not like about the TL that FWD, rattle everywhere and you will have to track them down and eliminate one by one, LED bulb interior love to goes out and that driving me nut other than that there isn't any real issue with 3rd gen TL, since you choose to have MT then no worry on the 04-05 AT issue. Good luck with the purchase and remember to post pics later

definitely gonna post tons of pics

I had an 09 Cobalt SS before.. Turbocharged FWD 300+whp made for plenty of torque steer(an fun!) but there were tons of lil rattles an cheap material everywhere :\

if I go the turbo route, I'll praly get with one of the local speed shops an see how they can hook me up.. I was checkin out that J&R ecu deal, but $1,300+ on top of a custom turbo set up seems like a lil much for me right now for somethin that's not entirely.. ready yet..Ima keep shoppin around. I dont even NEED to go F/I, but I want somethin that hass some balls to it.. ya know?

Welcome to Acurazine. The TL is a great car-you'll enjoy it. There's also a thread somewhere about what you would change on your TL....

if you want something has ball, then full bolt on TL can reach around 280 WHP, being MT you already has a 20 WHP boost over the AT. TL is a luxury sedan you won't find any cheap plastic anywhere in the interior, the technology is good even at today standard.

That's all I really want.. I really doubt I'll head to the track or anything, but ~300whp would be nice

In all reality tho, I'm not gettin one of these for power, but if I wanted somethin in my price range that looked cool with no power, I'd get an FRs

J&R has a turbo kit out.
so, you dont have to go custom.

ECU+TURBO KIT= 400whp reliable DD.
there are at least 3 or 4 turbo TL's right now.

Look out for an MT6 . Whether it's the "base" 04-06 or the Type-S 07-08, it's the biggest upgrade you can get IMO, assuming you like manuals. I say "base" in parentheses by the way because the manual 04-06 has a few upgraded hardware aspects to it over the auto for these years. These were kept for the Type-S in 07 and 08 - Brembo 4-piston brakes, stiffer roll bars and a LSD (limited slip differential).

Acura's build quality is very good. But the TL is notorious for rattles. This is even more pronounced if you stiffen up the suspension. If you're OCD about rattles this will bug you. I've had to hunt down about 6 different rattles or squeeks over the two years I've owned the car. I never had this problem with my Japanese built Accords. I don't know if it's due to all the fancy interior panels, lack of padding or just the US built issue. Either way, it's the single most annoying thing about the TL IMO.

I still got a bunch of research to do when it comes to turbos+tuning these cars.. I wanna have a local place/guy do it, so if anything happens, I wont be sol for a couple days waitin for an email back(it's happened to me before)

Are all the 07-08 6spd's Type S'? All the ones I've seen for sale so far have been.. Finding one with a 6speed+Navigation for what I'd be willing to pay has been tough lol I DID find a couple, but they always get scooped up >.<
