New to the Forum with a question

Current 1st Gen TL owner 96 3.2 with 180,000 miles on her..

Quick question, I am looking into purchasing an 08 TL with 78K on it. Carfax shows 1 owner purchased in 08 and drove it 25K a yr roughly.

they are selling it for $16,900 I am going to offer $15K is there anything I should look for during the test drive or ask about servicing etc?

Thanks in advance

Nothing other than the normal items anyone would inspect when purchasing a used vehicle.
Tire, make, size, speed rating, tread remaining, any uneven wear. Check wheels for road rash.
Brakes, can't see the pads, but one can see the rotors for any scores or notice any pulsations when brakes are applied.
Trans fluid, it won't be red as the dye dissapates over time, but shouldn't be burnt.
Any unusual sounds when running, e.g. serpentine belt, pullies.
All components working, wipers, power seats, windows, locks, heater, a/c, various modes, fan speeds. You can hear the compressor kick on when defroster activated.
Check body and interior for any dents or wear areas.
Ride for any noises or suspension pronlems.
Leaks under car. Difficult but panels may have residue.
Check to see when the oil was changed last, and if recently check the oil filter to see if clean. Some dealers just reset the MID and never do an oil change.
Can always check the VIN with an Acura dealer to see if any service records available or if the recall has been performed.

Just remember, in about 25,000 miles the timing belt and plugs need to be serviced, so depending on the area in which you live, it could be quite costly.
Good luck

I live in Boston so probably would be costly... One other question. Would you go with an 08 Silver / Black Leather no Nav. or an 07 same mileage Black on Black with Nav for a G less?

2008 - silver ext, black int - no navi - 78k miles - listed price $16,900
2007 - black ext, black int, - W/ NAVI - 80k miles - listed price $15,900

I know your new to the forums and i'm not trying to be a dick at all, but the answer to that should be a no brainer. Navigation all the way.

In my opinion, a luxury car with no navigation system or back-up camera is just lame. You should drive the TL that has the navigation and pay attention to how the interior of the car looks. Than go check out the TL without a navigation. The TL without a navigation looks like crap. It has a ugly plastic 2 section screen and just ruins the luxury interior look of the car. Makes the car look alot less luxury.

Those are some insanely cheap prices for a 07-08 btw. I got my car 08 base w/ navigation 30,000 miles salvage title for $15 flat.

Oh yeah, not to mention if you get a car with NO NAVI and you decide to upgrade to a navi, the navi system and all the components cost $2,000 so getting a NAVI for $1,000 less is a deal. A pretty good deal at that.

Navi also comes with voice-activated controls so you can talk to your navi and tell it the street name, address, and city and it will type it in for you. Navi also comes with a back-up camera which is incredible and helps out alot. I can't tell you how many times my friends has complimented my car when they see it has a navigation. They freak out even more when they see me backing up into a parking spot and notice the backup camera.

I agree, those are very good prices. I looked for a few months and the closest I saw to those prices was an 08 with no nav, 81K for 17,900. I also agree on the nav being a no brainer, car just looks so much more upscale with it. Good luck man.

Yeah, 07-08 w/ navi with that amount of miles should be $19-20k i believe... I saw a 07 with about 60k miles and no navi for about $17.5 at a local dealer when I was shopping for a TL back in Jan 2011

The Navi also incorporates voice controls for the climate control and audio system, unlike the non-Navis.
You can leave your hands on the wheel while verbally setting the cabin temp on 72*F, shutting off the defroster and selecting CD #3, track _ or a specific radio/XM station as well as verbally entering a destination on the Navi.
