Nerdy question - hand brake cover staples?
Well, I have only driven 60 miles in 2 weeks, so I have found my first non-techie question.
The leather (or vinyl?) covering on the handbrake has what appear to be 4 staples, just below the area that would be bisected by the console if an imaginary line were drawn end to end - there are two on each side of the cover.
Do others have that? My first inclination was to remove it, but since form follows function in a proeperly engineered thing, I figure there must be a reason. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!

I've noticed this too. It was my first disappointment regarding the car. The staple is used to fasten the brake cover lining (which I am guessing is a very thin leather or vinyl) to a pad that keeps the form. I was disappointed by the cheapness of it all.

Thx - now that we have established it has a purpose, I see the next step as mitigtaing damages - I think some flat black applied with a fine paintbrush will be a quick and easy remedy.

Where did I lose you?
And there are four - two in front, two in back.
The flat black paint worked pretty well - they no longer catch the light, which is what made me notice them in the first place.

I found the other two staples in the daylight. Yep, that could have been done better...
Some custom boots for the shifter and handbrake would be a nice upgrade. Stitching to match the A-Spec steering wheel would be awesome. I'll add it to the wish list.

Oh, jeez, I can see mine too, so I am unhappy. But wait, in order to see the staples, I have to look directly down into the opening, and press on the sides, and then I can see the staples. But if I don't go to any extra trouble to see the staples, I don't see them, and no one else sees them either, so I guess that is one less thing to worry about.
If any of you crawl under your car and find some dirty spots, don't tell me because I haven't found them yet either.

On your car maybe - mine are visible without looking for them - that is how I spotted them in the 1st place! Do you think I was squeezing the handbrake wondering what new hassle I could find? - I do not post nerdy things; plenty of others here doing that - this one was plainly in sight, which qualifies for a

1) $35k is an outrageous sum of money to pay for a new car (not so in the 21st Century)
2) Any car, if priced high enough, will be perfect. Just not so.
So we've got a few staples. BFD. WGAF. Keep your eyes on the road and you'll never think about them again.
And be thankful they're not paper clips. Because evidently Acura used a few of those in some places, too.

Regarding the rear seat - that whole area has been significantly strengthened in the TL, compared to the Accord. This yields the strong torsional riogidity of the car, and contributes to its low resonant frequency. It was not done to "cheap out" at all. In fact, it likely cost more, as a lot of finite element analysis would be needed, and it would have been cheaper to incorporate the Accord mechanism, which isd amortized over half-a million cars.

BarryH - Thanks for the clarification. Well said.
Road Rage - Then the non-folding rear seats were a bad example on my part. But BarryH's point remains valid. Cost-cutting measures are everywhere on the TL. The staples are hardly a big deal, but if you found painting them flat black a good solution, more power to ya.
