Need tips on buying a TL!!
Hello everyone!! I am a long time acura Legend owner going on about 9 years now and I still love it to death 190K and still running good. I just have the itch for the 3rd gen TL its killing me and I have been looking off an on for a few months but never really that seriously. I have been looking for a 2006+ because of the torque steer fix with about 30-40K. What I really need is a list of all the big and little differences between the years. I want to know the little stuff too that isn't listed in the specs. Also I am concerned about gas mileage, non Type-S owners what kind of gas mileage do you get on the Highway/city? If I am going to jump on a TL I really want the jump to give me a decent increase in MPG. I drive 100 miles/day all Highway and I currently average about 22-23 25 Max! in my Acura Legend which isn't so great. I know the TL isn't that much better on paper but realistic numbers can usually be a bit higher with the proper driving techniques. Sorry about the rant ,I just need some advise , please give me anything you feel is necessary to know when purchasing a used TL. Are there any major flaws I should know about? Besides the timing belts at about 100K what are the major items that tend to wear out? Thanks everyone!!
Heres a pic of my Legend, it will be hard to let here go
As you can see my inspiration for my corner signal retro was partially based on the TL headlights!

I used to drive a Legend coupe for a couple years and it was a EXCELLENT car.
It was then given to my sister, who then gave it to a friend.
It now has 277K on the clock and still going !
As for the 3G TL the MPG is fairly decent for a car of its sporty nature and medium size.
I can squeeze 30-33 on the highway but only 20-26 in the city, depending on how im feeling that day.
As for stuff to look out for, I have noticed (on many car's) that the interior is usually the best indicator as to how the previous owner treated the car.
On a 3G, there are metal textured interior "strips" on the center console. that is a particularly good indicator of treatment.
If they are dented and scratched/ un cared for that is typical of mistreatment. Another good indicator are of course the rims and car paint. Scratches, swirls and road rash are again indicators of mistreatment.
If you go with a NBP or WDP color car, it is very important to inspect the paint to see if there is a lack of color match.
Usually the pearls are the hardest to match and when they dont, it's like a purple elephant.
When I was out looking for cars, I looked at 10 TL's all over The Bay/ San Jose and Sac Valley area. It was well worth the hastle, because I found many issues with used cars. The 3G TL is a very popular model and many people own them. With that come the varying degrees of car owners.
I found many NBP & WDP cars that were salvaged, panel's poorly replaced and so on. I was also wary of automatic transmission cars as well, I have read many complaints about people having transmission problems with their automatics. Then again, you have a front wheel drive 270 hp sports sedan. Something has got to give somewhere.
When you do buy a TL, take it to the dealer and get the necessary recalls done. I have had 2 done so far, wiper motor and Power Steering hose replacements...Its free maintenance.
Good luck and dont be too impatient !

Im tellin' you that you can get much better MPG than that. Use the cruise control.
Then again, my ride has an intake and exhaust, which will free up a couple mpg as well... As well as 6 gears too.
Previous to the install, I was gettin 28 MPG on the highway. After I put the parts on, I at least get 30 MPG on the highway.

Mileage is very dependent on how you drive. I have gotten as bad as 15 mpg in city stop and go and as good as 30-32 hwy. I usually get about 22-25 on average. It's the price I pay for a bigger motor.

Finally thinking about doing it man?
I've gotten as much as 31 mpg highway in my TL and I usually get 22 around town.
Btw I got myself a Nikon D60 not quite a month ago. Let me take some pictures of your car before you get rid of it

Yeah I've gotten 33mpg on the freeway for a 10 mile stretch, but that's not accurate at all in terms of average I'll get for example, on 5 tanks of gasoline. Despite saying that, I'm extremely conservative on the gas pedal in city driving, and on the highway I stay on the right lane at 65mph,
I get in the city 21-22mpg overall,
I'm pretty anal about mileage and have done many driving styles to see, and believe my results are accurate with a high degree of confidence. Depends where you live, hopefully you won't get traffic as bad as we get out here, as that will take a toll on mileage.

I'll keep my eyes open for some decently priced TL's around and let you know if I see any.
