Need new front brakes and rotors...what and where to buy?

My front brake pads and rotors both needs to be replaced. I can do the work myself, just need to know what and where to buy. Not looking to upgrade performance, either stock or aftermarket is fine. I used to be able to buy a set of aftermarket rotors and pads for my Legend on ebay for <$200, are there something similar for the TL?

My car is an 05 6spd.

Thanks in advance

try contacting the site vendors: mrheeltoe or excellerate or richiv6 (sorry if I missed out on some vendors who do brakes).....

if you find the kits they are selling too expensive:
try www.tirerack.com --> hawk / powerslot / brembo :if you find this too expensive too
try www.rockauto.com --> ebc/centric/ pbr/ monroe :you should find something that fits your budget here.....

I have powerslot slotted and hawk hps combo all around and am very happy

YellowStuffs IMHO

I had an '04 TL NBP 6mt

When I changed the brakes I went with:

Brembo Blanks all around and EBC YellowStuffs all around

I bought them from a combination of www.perfectbrakes.com and www.buybrakes.com

for 2000 miles...I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the pads. Great initial bite, ZERO fade (Believe me I tried...spirited street driving, not tracked) and lower dust than OEM.

unfortunately I did not keep the '04, I had to step my game up. Got an '08 CBP TL-S 6mt. I can't wait till it's brake change time. I will be getting the same set-up except maybe slotted/dimpled rotors instead of blanks.

This of course is just my experience. Just do your research so you feel comfortable.

I am in the midst of this as well. Is it totally necessary to swap out the rotors when going to EBC pads? I want to go with the Greenstuff's but also don't want to get shakey like I have been warned by the dealer. I know it is the dealer and they just want the money on parts just wanted to confirm.

YES. EBC Sports.

I would/did.

Get the redstuff, the greenstuff is for cars under 200HP.

Things you would want to find out:

1> Are your rotors fine (wrapped/ Slimmed out / out of spec).....if any of these result in YES....then you need to get new rotors....if all of these result in NO....then you dont need new rotors.....its upto you if you still want to get new or not.....

i would say if you have anything more than 60-70K miles on the same rotors and your above answer was YES then get new rotors....if you are at 40-50K miles and your above answer was NO then stick to your current rotors, get new brake pads, next time you have to get new brakes (assuming 20-30K miles, depending on how you drive) then get new rotors.....

2> The dealer cannot bind you to his dealership.....for example tires/ brakes (pads or rotors)/ air/cabin/oil/fuel filters/ oil changes/ many more.....you can get these done anywhere and with any parts you like WITHOUT hurting your warranty......

I dont have any experience with EBC pads so cant really help you with that.....

is this really true? i always thought using other than Honda/Acura oil/fuel would void the warranty and the dealership tells me that they will not be responsible for any breakdowns and etc.. is there anything written to prove this? i just wanna show the stealers the proof

They can void the warranty because you are using a fluid that isn't spec'ed for the car.

They can't do it for oil filters, oil, etc. For example, the manual specs API 5w/20 for oil, so any brand that meets it is fine.

ok. that's too bad, since the GM syncromesh would keep them from a tranny replacement...

That's funny cause there was a post on this site about a dealer swapping out the OEM fluid for the GMSM. If you swap the fluid just never say anything about it.

It's no secret the GMSM fluid is superior to the revised Honda MTF.

yeah i've considered that but if something does happen to the tranny before the warranty expires they will not fix it (and the fluids do not look the same). of course the only major tranny problem is the 3rd gear annoyance so...

^^^^

let me requote what I wrote: "The dealer cannot bind you to his dealership.....for example tires/ brakes (pads or rotors)/ (air/cabin/oil/fuel) filters/ oil changes/ many more.....you can get these done anywhere and with any parts you like WITHOUT hurting your warranty......till you get oil/parts which meet or exceed the requirements specified by HONDA/ACURA"

that been said.....no matter what brakes u get it wont void your warranty....till you use genuine dot4/dot 5.1 brake fluid, it wont void warranty....

the transmission fluid, i know the GMSM is better than Honda MTF, but it either doesnt meet the specs or doesnt surpass them and hence Acura doesnt want to take liability for trannies which use GM's fluids....
