Need Help... Brakes

I live in north Dallas and need to have my brakes replaced. I have a 6MT 06 TL with brembo brakes. My brakes are completely worn out and need to be replaced ASAP. I don't want to pay dealership prices. ...

What are my options... Can I take it to a brake shop and have them perform the job? Should I order parts first and then take it to the shop?

I'd appreciate any input/suggestions.

Thank you all very much.

It really isn't that hard to do the front brakes on the 6MT. I did mine with the help of another member. I would buy the parts and then see if another member can help you if you have never done it before. I can help as well depending on my schedule.

Where did you buy your parts at? Online? Also, can you detail what parts specifically. Would I only need the pads? Sorry for the nooby questions...

I got mine online from Tirerack.com if a remember correctly. I got the hawkpads since I didn't like the Brembo pads. They squeaked way too much. How many miles do you have on the car? At the time I replaced mine, my rotors were fine so I did not need to get them resurfaced. If you do a search for pads on the 6mt some people have gone with the EBC Green/Red stuff pads and I think most are happy with them.

No worries about the noob questions. We all gotta learn sometime and asking questions is the only way to do that. One thing you will notice is majority of the people on here are always willing to help.

I just did mine with the Hawk Ceramic pads from tire rack.

My good friend is a Honda mechanic and we went ahead and turned the rotors while still on the car. Amazing how fast that machine is compared to removing them and placing them on a bench lathe.

I bed them in just like the instructions said plus some. No problems, very low dust, and can't really tell much of a difference between them and the stocker brembo's.

My front right brake makes this terrible noise when i brake... it's not all the time, but most of the time... i noticed if i brake a little harder, the noise isnt there, but if i brake slowly at low speeds, it makes the noise... do you think I damaged my rotors? not sure how that works.

Have you checked the pads yet and see how much is left on them? The brembo pads do squeak, but yours could be do to the pad being very low.

Got a dumb question... I'm on Tirerack.com and it lists the Hawk Ceramics pad as $120.00 for an axle set.....(qty of 1)...

Does Axle Set means that it will come w/ two pads for the two front wheels???? Or do I have to select a qty of 2, for 2 axle sets.

1 set is 4 pads, takes care of both front wheels

Okay, just got my car checked up at the ACURA dealership... they told me i need new rotors. The final quoted price is $800.00 dollars....

Is this price somewhat decent? Or is it robbery. I really need my car fixed and dont really have the time to take it to a repair shop and be w/o a ride. Dont really want to deal with rental cars, etc. The dealership fixed me up w/ a loaner and its more convenient. I looked up the rotor prices on Tire rack and they came out to be $238 dollars for a pair, and it had to be special ordered, which means more time. I can't really get the parts in asap and will have to wait. Where as w/ the dealer, they can have it repaired by tomorrow. I'm not sure what other options I have. I mean 800 bucks for 2 OEM brembo pads and rotors and the service to install...... does that should somewhat decent? The existing rotors are warped due to metal on metal contact.

Not sure what a decent price is. Haven't gone to the dealership in a long time for a brake job. If it is truly metal on metal, then that is not safe and you may have to pay more to get it done quickly. If there is still a semi decent amount of material left on the pad, then it would be cheaper to buy the parts and do it on your own. You can contact Excelerate for pricing. He is a vendor here and he can sell you pads that are better than the stock Brembo's.
