Need Advice for Brakes
Hi guys,
I have searched on this topic for a couple of days now, and have seen many combinations of brakes that people have said to go with.
I am thinking of going with ebc red stuff and the dimpled ebc sport rotors.
The only thing that is bothering me though, is that all the threads talk about stopping power and nothing really on longetivity. Can someone please fill me on the longetivity of these pads, or throw out any other names that last longer than the stock brembos? Longetivity is more important to me than stopping power as I don't take my car to the track
Thanks guys.

I put 4 Slotted RacingBrake rotors on mt '04 5AT around 15k miles ago. I picked the RB300 pads (or was it RB30?). They are a bit more dusty than the stocks, but they seem to be holding up good. I kind of wish they would wear out, so I could try some other pads.
The brakes really grab now. It's a different feeling than the stocks, also. I.e. after they are heated up good, they require a little more pressure. Not that they don't stop well. They grip a lot better than the stockers. I think any good rotors are a good upgrade for the TL brakes. Mine were WARPED, so I just decided to do it right. I got all 4 corners and SS braided hoses for ~$650 iirc.
As far as longevity, if you're like me and don't auto-x on the weekends, the aftermarket brakes will likely last longer that the cheap, china-steel, stock brakes. Now taking that exit ramp @ 110 is fun instead of scarrrrry. And the curvy back-roads after that are a whole other ride.

wow that sounds great ... I'm not sure if this is true, but i have heard that the pads need to be matched up well with rotors otherwise the brakes will start shaking and warping ... these pads sound great ...
any recommendations on a good set of rotors to go with these??
thanks lovemytls

I had the E-line but you may want to go with the Premiums.

if you go with basic brakes from the parts store, they will have choices of pads from the same maker in semi mettallic or ceramic, or have a suggestion based on personal experience of the employees
If you run high performace rotors go with the same makers pads, especially with RacingBrake slotted rotors-
use ET300 pads for normal drivers and ET500 for the more aggressive user, harder bite on the brakes
They had to design their own compounds because the rotors are so hard they ate other pads in 15k miles
My 01 with Legend dual piston front calipers, has ~18k miles on the RB slotted rotors with ET300s- measured the pad material thickness yesterday, 5.7mm remaining- 2 mm is minimum thickness allowed
they were 8mm last time I checked several months ago. Wear and overall condition excellent
I think they, and hawk hps pads are 10mm when new
The rotors were perfect- just needed the dust cleaned out of the side slots- a shot of carb cleaner took care of that, relube the sliders and pad backs,,a quick bleed of the brakes just for fun,,,and ready to go enjoy some more
Pad dust is a byproduct of good braking-(or cheap pads) If there were no dust that means no braking!!
Wash your rims on both sides and give them 3 coats of `synthetic car wax`- will cut way down on your brake dust retention problem
Longevity means nothing
-stopping power in an Oh *O$^&* situation is all important
Bringing the car home 2 feet shorter in front,,, but having lots of cheap pad life remaining---not a great deal --IMO

so just to clarify ... u had the r1 concept rotors with the durlast gold pads??? was it the oe style or did u go slotted and drilled??
Are you sure it was RB ET300's? I put those on about 10K miles ago and I get very little if any dust from them. Ditto on stopping power, they're just as good if not better than the stock brembo pads. Loved the Brembo pads, but not their dust! Too early to know about longevity, but visually they don't appear to have wore too much so far.
