My New Tl And Some Inside Info From Dealer

What a great ride, nothing like coasting on the highway at 2 1/2 rpms at 75 in 6th! Had some quick questions, any delays while starting is this normal? Is it me or is the ac vents in the front center console not hit your face? Any suggestions as far as breaking in the car...I picked it up in miami and drove it to tampa coasting at around 75, is there a break in period of time, i'm nervous to get on the car being so new...and does anyone recommend any tint locations in tampa?

As far as the dealer giving me the heads up, he mentioned a performance kit available for about $1800 is coming in October '04--he claims will increase the horse by 35 and will not affect acura warranty if installed by dealer...

He also mentioned the governor is set at 147
Anybody consider a chip?

Thanks for the help!

35hp for 1800? sounds interesitng... but i'd take it with a grain of salt, jus based on what other dealers have "claimed'.

Will be nice if true, but this is the first time I've heard this rumor. Dealers are notoriously ill-informed. In March, my local dealer had the 'inside scoop' that the 05 RL would be a hybrid.

Hondas are not chip-friendly. Speed governor depends on tires. How fast are you planning to go?

35 hp for $1800? I'll believe it when I see it. But can you imagine? A 305-hp TL? Would we all become track drivers?

Sounds good but torque increase probably minimal. Any more torque steer and the steering wheel will pull right out of your hands.

Honda's are not chip friendly or TL's are not? Honda's have more chip makers than about anyone out there. Full PC controlled programs etc. Check out Hondata.com or zdyne.com These are some of the most known and modified ECU's out there. Big power gains too.. I've got a chipped Integra so I've been involved with these for some time. Just wanting to razz you a little.

We have members here who have gotten vascar tickets for over 150. One says that he has hit 154 MPH.

There must be some variance in the factory settings for the speed limiter.

I doubt very much that I will ever test it. But, it's nice to know I can if I want to.

I like razzing. My experience has been that Hondas usually require a complete ECU swap - maybe I am just too S2000 focused, as there is little "left on the shelf" in that car. The Mugen ECU is well over $1000, for perhaps a handful of ponies, and you have to run 1000000 octane to boot.

So do Integras have drop in chips? What do you consider big? The SVT Cobras have a lot on the shelf, and it is easy to dial-in big numbers, but how much from an Integra?

Motor Trend said the TL 5AT was electronically limited to 137 MPH because of the tires - I cannot say - anyone been pushing the envelope?

BS Alarm!

The stock tires are rated for sustained speeds of 168 MPH (93W). Any magazine I've read says the limiter is set at 147. The experiences of many people on this board say that the setting must vary. Some have gone 154. Others have received a vascar ticket for 150+.

From personal experience, I can tell you the 5AT goes 70. :P :whocares:

Where do you guys get this stuff? No TL has ever had a "speed limiter", electronic or otherwise. The speed is limited by the wind resistance and the driver's cojones/state of sobriety.

I have read in magazines that it is electronically limited to 147MPH but I have seen no confirmation of this.

The only thing I find in the manual is that, with automatic transmission, you shouldn't downshift from 5th - 4th gear at speeds over 149 MPH (page 185). So, theoretically, you would have a LOT more speed before the rev limiter would kick in in 5th gear.
